Help flaming space ball question 10-15-2014

Tonight about 8:30 CST, my daughter and her two friends (8th graders) saw a black ball with flames around it falling from the sky. It was to the north of where we were standing. Unfortunately, I didn't look quick enough. Does anyone know if we are going through any meteor showers at this time? Or any links where I could find some information?

I keep tabs on some of whats going on and went and checked and no meteor showers for October but we do have a comet thats going to pass so close to Mars it may just hit it.

one of the late nite talk shows mentioned something about...a fireball, boom n debris field from it...but I wasn't paying too close attention...he mentioned something about the pnw and then louisiana...but not sure if it was from earlier tonite or when...sorry can't be more help...

Waterloo, Iowa. If there hasn't been any major events, I will just assume they saw space junk. Thanks for the opinions!!

Doesn't look like anyone else in your area reported it. your kids may have been the only ones to catch it as it went by.

I saw one yesterday, 8/16, at 6:15 am, was near Cairo, Missouri , it was from the east, about the size of a quarter, moved very fast. Lasted maybe a second.

There is a web page for citizens to report all falling junk. Falling stars. Comets. Meteors. But i dont have the address. Google is the beginning for that search
