Geithner: Taxes on ‘Small Business’ Must Rise So Government Doesn’t ‘Shrink’

Wheels are coming off the bus I tell you.

this is a pretty important declaration to watch. Not only are they imposing a "hidden tax" with the inflation but to be so blatant about taxing business which is responsible for 64% of new job creation at a time of high unemployment should be considered traitorous.

(CNSNews.com) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the House Small Business Committee on Wednesday that the Obama administration believes taxes on small business must increase so the administration does not have to “shrink the overall size of government programs.”
The administration’s plan to raise the tax rate on small businesses is part of its plan to raise taxes on all Americans who make more than $250,000 per year—including businesses that file taxes the same way individuals and families do.

Geithner’s explanation of the administration's small-business tax plan came in an exchange with first-term Rep. Renee Ellmers (R.-N.C.). Ellmers, a nurse, decided to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 after she became active in the grass-roots opposition to President Barack Obama’s proposed health-care reform plan in 2009.
“Overwhelmingly, the businesses back home and across the country continue to tell us that regulation, lack of access to capital, taxation, fear of taxation, and just the overwhelming uncertainties that our businesses face is keeping them from hiring,” Ellmers told Geithner. “They just simply cannot.”
She then challenged Geithner on the administration’s tax plan.
“Looking into the future, you are supporting the idea of taxation, increasing taxes on those who make $250,000 or more. Those are our business owners,” said Ellmers.
Geithner initially responded by saying that the administration’s planned tax increase would hit “three percent of your small businesses.”
Ellmers then said: “Sixty-four percent of jobs that are created in this country are for small business.”
Geithner conceded the point, but then suggested the administration’s planned tax increase on small businesses would be “good for growth.”
“No, that's right. I agree with that,” said Geithner. “But just to put it in perspective, it's important to recognize why are we doing this. You know, our deficits are 10 percent of GDP, higher than they've been since any time in the postwar period really. We have a big hole to dig out of, and we have to figure out how to do that in a way that's balanced, good for growth, fair to people as a whole.”
Geithner, continuing, argued that if the administration did not extract a trillion dollars in new revenue from its plan to increase taxes on people earning more than $250,000, including small businesses, the government would in effect “finance” what he called a “tax benefit” for those people.
“We're not doing it because we want to do it, we're doing it because if we don't do it, then, again, I have to go out and borrow a trillion dollars over the next 10 years to finance those tax benefits for the top 2 percent, and I don't think I can justify doing that,” said Geithner.
Not only that, he argued, but cutting spending by as much as the “modest change in revenue” (i.e. $1 trillion) the administration expects from raising taxes on small business would likely have more of a “negative economic impact” than the tax increases themselves would.
“And if we were to cut spending by that magnitude to do it, you'd be putting a huge additional burden on the economy, probably greater negative economic impact than that modest change in revenue,” said Geithner.

The really bad news if the Word on the Street is accurate is that the GOP governors who have actually tried to cut the budget are in deep political doo-doo. Which, if true, (and I think it is) will even more dishearten the chicken-hearted GOP of the Congress.

As you say, we are doomed.

These lines tell you everything you need to know about how liberals view money, labor, and the means for production. In short, the government owns it all, and they will decide how much of their money that you produced using your labor and your means of production. Of course, it is really their labor and means of production since we are merely slaves of the state. We work for their benefit.

I keep more of what I produced through my labor and my means of production, yet somehow that is considered a benefit that the government must pay for. ABSURD! Up is down and left is right with these idiots.

Hey Geithner. Here's a clue. Pay your own damn taxes first. Then try cutting spending and living within your means like we all have to do.

Morons... These people are like twelve year-olds playing Sim City... Either they really have no comprehension of how asinine this is, else they're intentionally destroying the economy. In either case, they should, at the very least, be driven out - or at best, tried for treason.

This is precisely what happens when you get a bunch of damned lawyers and academics governing the country instead of business people who actually understand productivity, making a payroll, managing payables and receivables and praying that the former doesn't exceed the latter, etc.

Buncha backwards-assed imbeciles in charge....

Geithner is a bankster. He has already come out in favor of dollar devaluation and replacement of the dollar with a new world-wide reserve currency.

A banker's primary business model operates on fraud and theft (literally)! Bankers are the most corrupt people on the planet.

Same diff.

Bankers, especially at the level that Geithner is used to, have very little real world knowledge of how business works. Banking is so heavily regulated that most of them only need to be able to read and understand the part of the Code of Federal Regs that applies to banking.

They have pretty much ZERO understanding of doing something productive from scratch, like running a farm, running a small manufacturing concern, running a repair and fabrication shop of some kind, etc.

Obviously Geithner has never owned a bid'ness before. What will happen is alot of small businesses will say, "screw it" and close shop. Geithner is an idiot and a moocher.

Many business owners I know here in Wa. are sick of this sh*t and will be headed to "Galt's Gulch" soon if this taxing crap doesn't stop. Many are actually preparing their move as I type.

What he doesn't realize is, that this nation became what it is/was a great nation because of a business practice called, "Free Enterprise". It made us great and all the people of other nations in the past who I consider the strongest of their country, and who had the balls to leave with nothing but a few dollars in their pocket and a whole lot of hope, left everyone and everything behind to come here to excersize the freedoms that they didn't have at home and relished in our free enterprise system. And he is the type that will help cause it to go extinct.

Since 85% of the federal government is unconstitutional we can cut FedGov back to its constitutional levels and save tons of money.

Exactly - PERFECTLY - Bass Ackwards - as usual. But, not surprising from the current occupant and his marxist ilk.

Come on, everyone 'knows' that a large, powerful, central government contributes more to the health of the economy than the small businesses do. Who needs small business? We just need central planning of government owned industries to create a utopia that all 'right-thinking' individuals in this country can enjoy.

If you are not right-thinking you will be forced to wear a yellow star until we can figure out a final solution for you.

I have to wonder if the WH folk are using Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" for they're playbook? I mean, it's full of looters and moochers and I'm seeing they're governing results coming close to what happened in the book. I'm starting to think that Ayn wore a 'Miss Cleo' hat whilst writing Atlas Shrugged... V

Actually it does seem to be lining up pretty well with the Atlas Shrugged storyline. Sadly.

Surely the whole idea of having a left wing Govt is that they wish to increase taxation so that the proceeds can be spent on Govt programs, whether the taxes are on corporations, small businesses, sales or individuals

has any democratic govt resulted in the reduction of taxes?

Translation - ENTITLEMENTS now consume 2/3 of the IOUSA budget and will consume the ENTIRE IOUSA budget within a decade if our plans succeed. There can never be means testing, we will not deny wealthy Americans their socialist security and socialized medicare funds - how else can we enslave the working poor, you must know our goal is to enslave all future generations and we must keep the current herd happy and content. Their time will come, one group at a time.

Geitner Uses Medicare and Social Security to Raise the Debt Ceiling

By Brian Koenig
– May 15, 2011

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner asserted on Friday that recent reports show that Medicare and Social Security have “sufficient resources” to fulfill obligations for the next decade, but that reforms must be implemented to strengthen U.S. entitlement programs. Geithner proceeded to say that Social Security will cover benefits for seniors for the next 25 years but that by 2036 the Trust Fund will be depleted.

Geithner claims (reiterating the President) that government programs such as Medicare and Social Security are commitments that “define America” and are an example of how “government can make a difference in people’s lives.” Such emotional grumblings define the classic liberal ideology and it’s strategic initiative in persuading the public.

On Monday, May 16 – just three days from today – the United States will reach the debt limit set by Congress. Because Congress has not yet acted, we have now set in motion a series of extraordinary measures that will give Congress some additional time to raise the debt limit. I want to again encourage Congress to move as quickly as possible, so that all Americans will remain confident that the United States will meet all of its obligations – not just our interest payments but also our commitments to our seniors.

Way to use the elderly as bait Mr. Geithner. And way to use the American people as fish dinner.
