herb storage

Hi,

I recently ordered some herbs from Ameriherb at the website recomended by many of you..... you know the ones that come in the purple plastic bags. My question is are they in a dark opaque bag to protect from light so they will keep better?? Would rather repackage them but perhaps I should leave them alone??
Thanks!

Yes. To store herbs best they must be out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place. Temperature should be 65-70 F. You can also store this bag in a tin or barrel too. Do not open until you are ready to use. Does the bag have an exp. date listed? Or a date when the plant material was harvested? We know that the whole root can last for years like gensing, where as the flower lasts 6 months. When herbs are cut and sifted they last only 6 months. Really good companies provide both dates. You do not want a product that has been stored in a warehouse for 3 years before you are shipped the product. By that time it is inactive and you are purchasing no more than fluff and duff.
