Honda and antifreeze

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Hey,

I was going to add some antifreeze to 98 Honda Accord. It has an odd overflow tank, so I dug up the manual to see about getting to it. The manual claims that if you don't use genuine Honda antifreeze, you're doomed and must flush out and replace with the Good $tuff. Something about aluminum engine and corrosion. So I didn't do anything, just yet. This is a 4 cyl engine; anyone know if this is a way for Honda to make money, or is this for real?

What color is the anti- freeze? is it the 5 year 100,000 mile stuff or called extended milage. Some factory anti freezes are not always compatible with aftermarket. Can turn into a very nice gell, volkswagon had this problem with their extended life anti freeze not sure on anyone else. Talk with a good local import tech and see what they say.

Unless you flush the entire system first, yes you do have to use the Honda stuff.

You can buy it already premixed with distilled water from the dealer.
