Where is that person coming from? How long ago have they been in the country? Where have they been living? What have they been doing since they got here? Important things to know. I wonder if the gag order is blocking those answers.

The Health Department said it will have no further comment until Monday as CDC staff will need adequate opportunity to evaluate the patient.

The department also said the risk to the community is “very low,” and health officials are informing the community out of an abundance of caution.

When it says they've had contact with someone that had ebola, I wouldn't state it as "some risk", it should be "high risk". Where are they staying, at the hospital, in a house with other people? Drives me nuts that under HIPPA, they won't give out anymore information. I'm glad that I use Presbyterian Hospital and not that one. Ugh.

scary part here is the african community is deeply imbedded in the senior healthcare system in Charlotte. They are highly sought after due to a deep respect for elders they have, unlike most Americans. Nursing homes and assisted living facilities might be impacted. Were they taking the patient to CMC? Logical choice in Charlotte.

Good point Hurricanehic....I know I remember reading that CMC was preparing beds for ebola patients...but no confirmation I can find yet as to where they might be taking this person.

they're not as great as people think. DD (who is white) just started working in an assisted living/rehab place. Most of the workers there are black and have a heavy accent she says. She came home and cried over the way some of the patients were treated............

She hasn't asked them where they are from (said she was kinda scared to as they were all rather "hefty" and she's about 100lbs soaking wet).

And is this person going to be in a hospital or somewhere else?

Note to self...let's not get sick any time soon. And if we do, it might be a good idea to go to the doc in a box in Concord.

update from same link

International Christian mission agency SIM confirmed the individual being taken to Charlotte is one of the organization's missionaries.

“SIM has been working closely with state and local public health officials for weeks for the anticipated return of this missionary to the U.S.,” said Bruce Johnson, president of SIM USA.

“This missionary has been checked by our public health officials and is healthy and shows no signs of Ebola. SIM’s policy is to follow CDC guidelines, adhere to the directives of our public health agencies and to treat people as we would want to be treated.”

SIM said it is withholding the identity of the missionary at this time for reasons of privacy.

Traveler from Ebola hot zone arrives in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mecklenburg County health officials will be monitoring someone here in Charlotte for a possible case of Ebola.

A statement from the health department describes this person as having "some risk" for the disease because they recently traveled to the West African Ebola hot zone and had close contact with someone with Ebola.

The Center for Disease Control defines "some risk" as an individual who had close contact in households, healthcare facilities or community settings with a person with Ebola while the person was infectious and may need to be quarantined.

As they did with an another at risk patient last month, the health department will monitor this person for 21 days and may quarantine them as necessary.

Sunday afternoon, the Mecklenburg County Health Department said the patient did not travel through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, but rather arrived in the Charlotte area via private ground transportation.

Based on what can be found in the OP, they have not yet arrived in Charlotte.

They are coming from the affected area of West Africa.

They are considered "some risk" because of their closet contact with members of a household in West Africa who had Ebola-Infected family members in the infectious stage of the disease..

Wasn't it that Texas Presbyterian hospital that botched the care of Eric Duncan? If I thought I was sick with something serious, I'd want to go to a really good hospital.

All I can say is that the blacks from the Caribbean *hated* whites. They were not nice in the nursing homes down in Florida when I used to visit the places.
