For those un-favored with musical history Ravel's Bolero caused riots when it was performed in the early days, it is so aggressive. Consider it a musical love song, which generates a DUAL rape...

It's public performance was outlawed for a space.

And THAT is PRECISELY where the bastards are.
I learned this when Timothy was studying music.

Listened to the recording over and over.

While it's stirring---it's no more so than a Sousa march, for me.

I guess I've been over-exposed to psychologically-stimulating music, having grown up in the age of rock n roll all the way from Elvis to Led Zeppelin to rap.........

This should have been a "maximum effort", including the 8th and BUFFs, on Day 1 targeting all military and C4IR sites. This slow roll crap only gives time for the OPFOR to "go to the mattresses".....

Houthis Attack Commercial Shipping Vessel with Anti-Ship Missiles

On Jan. 24 at approximately 2 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired three anti-ship ballistic missiles from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward the U.S.-flagged, owned, and operated container ship M/V Maersk Detroit, transiting the Gulf of Aden. One missile impacted in the sea. The two other missiles were successfully engaged and shot down by the USS Gravely (DDG 107). There were no reported injuries or damage to the ship.

does seem to the uninformed that making behshad go BOOM-BOOM would be a nice move; escalation prevention seems to be in the rear view mirror at this point.

At what point do we say that the Iranian base ship #Behshad is funneling targeting data to the Houthi to attack shipping.

Maersk Detroit and Maersk Chesapeake had to sail right past her on their way to the #BabelMandeb.

JUST IN - Iran is now a "legitimate target" for Israeli missile strikes, one of the country's most senior ministers has told the Telegraph, raising the prospect of an all-out war with Tehran.

one could anticipate a US sub or overhead AWAC could detect such comms from Iranian ship to Houthis or IRGC... then, once incriminated, send her to the bottom. Seems where it is headed

The bad part with that is the US is doing the same thing with Russia/ukraine. If we can hit an Iranian vessel for assisting Houtis, would that green light Russia to hit US assists for helping Ukraine? Every action keeps pushing the escalation envelope.

The better move might be to disable it, covertly take out stearing and propulsion, and tow it to the nearest "safe" US allied harbor for repairs and a "safety inspection".

Exactly right. US-UK are to Ukraine… as Iran is to Houthis/Hezbo. We hitting Iran issues a license for Russia to hit US-UK. Could be why FJB is tiptoeing and even thinking about withdrawing from Syria and Iraq

The Obama Blinken State crowd is a bunch of safe space Ivy League morons who are are too smart to consider other countries and leaders reaction.

They just push their globalist idea’s forward constantly having to ignore reality not bending to their grand scheme’s and plans.

As to Brandon he will do anything and everything to keep a lid on oil prices. I think he feels his election and his families continued bribes and grift money grab hinges on the economy and an oil price shock would end the game.

Lost amid all the other news breaking in the last 24 hours is one particularly disturbing story: the United States Navy lost a battle at sea yesterday.

CENTCOM put out an anodyne press release yesterday stating that afternoon, "Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired three anti-ship ballistic missiles from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen toward the U.S.-flagged, owned, and operated container ship M/V Maersk Detroit, transiting the Gulf of Aden. One missile impacted in the sea. The two other missiles were successfully engaged and shot down by the USS Gravely (DDG 107). There were no reported injuries or damage to the ship."

All well and good... but as it turned out there was a lot more to the story. This engagement occurred while two American merchantmen - the Maersk Detroit and the Maersk Chesapeake - were attempting to run the Bab al-Mandeb from south to north while being covered by the USS Gravely. An AEGIS destroyer's defensive umbrella should have turned this transit into a milk run - except it didn't.

CENTCOM admits that one of the Houthis' tactical ballistic missiles - undemanding targets as far as such things go - got through the Gravely's interceptors. What they neglected to mention was that it struck about a hundred meters from the Maersk Detroit, and that after the attack the convoy aborted the transit and retreated back into the Arabian Sea rather than press on into enemy fire.

Was retreat the correct decision at the moment? Probably, the Gravely was shepherding two lumbering merchantmen and facing unsuppressed shore batteries of unknown strength and capability in broad daylight, quite possibly without adequate air cover given the ambiguities of the Eisenhower's exact station in the Red Sea and the limited combat radius of its air wing.

Was this operational plan inadequate? Almost certainly - reading between the lines, it reeks of a complacent assumption that Houthi missile batteries had actually been suppressed by a few rounds of air raids and that a single AEGIS destroyer could handle anything the Houthis could throw at them with no need for additional contingency planning. In the event neither of these assumptions were correct - and because of it a convoy covered by one of the US Navy's premier warships retreated from a battle that was going badly.

Perhaps the Task Force command should stop trying to shape narratives on this website and get to work on getting the Bab al-Mandeb back open to Western shipping, because right now that particular pool looks very closed.

Almost as aside here, but, one reason mideast “allies” like SA and emirates are holding off US support that had been built up by DJT is FJB has been pressuring them to switch from executing gays to legailzing gay marriage and respecting pronouns…in every contact made since the last POTUS election

I don't know all of the intricacies of the situation but the simple minded me says either fucthemup or leave the area

if we think that it is a trap then just pack up and go

let the ships take longer routes and let the loss of revenue from ships transiting the Suez canal take it's toll

Yesterday, the Iranian-backed Houthis struck the Marshall Islands-flagged, Bermuda-owned M/V Marlin Luanda with an Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile (ASBM) in the Gulf of Aden. Marlin Luanda is transporting for commercial use a cargo of Naphtha, a highly flammable liquid hydrogen mixture. Following the missile strike, a major fire ensued in one of the cargo holds. USS Carney (DDG 64), the French Navy Frigate FS Alsace (D656) and Indian Navy Frigate INS Visakhapatnam (DD66) all responded quickly, providing critical firefighting material and assistance to the civilian crew, who had depleted their organic firefighting capability. The multinational crew, the lives of which the Houthis endangered, was made up of 22 Indian and 1 Bangladeshi crew members.

Thanks to this rapid response by the U.S., Indian and French navies, the fire is now extinguished. There were no casualties in the attack, the ship remains seaworthy, and has returned to its previous course.

Many thanks to our Combined Maritime Forces partners for their great teamwork at sea, averting a disaster that threatened lives and the seaworthiness of the ship and risked major environmental damage.

These unlawful actions have nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza. Neither the vessel nor its crew have any affiliation to Israel. The Houthis have fired indiscriminately into the Red Sea, targeting vessels impacting over 40 countries around the world.

According to U.S. Officials, the People's Liberation Army Navy is now considering their Involvement with Operation Prosperity Guardian, the U.S-led Maritime Naval Coalition in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden with its Goal being the Protection of Commercial Shipping from the Houthi Terrorist Group in Yemen; this comes following recent Indications from Chinese Defense Officials in Djibouti that they are Increasingly Nervous about “Spillover” from this Conflict.

There are unconfirmed reports tonight of US airstrikes in Yemen. A flight from Cairo to Aden is taking an alternate path over the Red Sea, it usually flies over land from north of Hudaydah.

2nd picture shows the usual path. No Yemeni confirmation of strikes. Will update.

Yemeni Defense Minister: We will bring a painful end to US hegemony

The Minister of Defense of the People's Government of Yemen, Al-Atafi, announced the country's readiness for a long-term confrontation with the United States and Britain after the actions of these two countries to carry out airstrikes on Yemeni military positions.

Major General Mohammad Nasser al-Atafi:

We tell them from the Red Sea that it is we who will bring a painful end to American hegemony. We will turn the Red and Arabian Seas into a wall of fire against the Zionists and will not allow these seas to be used as a feeder artery for their atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Calling the Yemeni people's position in support of Gaza terrorism is a ridiculous act. Essentially, the US is a terrorist state and a supporter of terrorism, a leader of genocide and terror and a supporter of Israeli brutality.

U.S. Carries Out First Preemptive Strike On Houthi SAM

Howard Altman

U.S. forces for the first time destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile preparing to launch Wednesday, a U.S. defense official told The War Zone. The incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. local time, U.S. Central Command said.
“U.S. forces identified the missile in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined that it presented an imminent threat to U.S. aircraft operating in the region,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

A U.S. defense official declined to specify what the SAM was targeting “for operational security purposes.” A second U.S. defense official did not immediately know what kind of SAM was struck or how.
The Houthis also have the Muhit, an anti-ship version of the Houthi Qaher-2 series of surface-to-surface missiles, which are in turn conversions of old Soviet SA-2 surface-to-air missiles. You can read more about that an the Houthi's wide array of anti-ship missiles in our deep dive here. It isn't clear if SA-2 variants are also active in an air defense role, but they would not be used in static rings like they traditionally are.

So, the threat from Houthi SAMs may not be extreme, but it is present.
The strike on the Houthi SAM comes a day after the Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Gravely shot down a Houthi anti-ship cruise missile launched into the Red Sea. CENTCOM said that there was no injuries or damage from that incident.
This is a developing story.
