just hold camera and interact, stealing shots as they are presented.

such as just getting up in the morning... using slow shutter speed (camera held extra steady leaning on chair back) to get a bit of child's movements, as well as avoid use of flash for more natural lighting angles and shaddow-highlights mixing..

then second shot at breakfast, showing tossed hair and bright morning eyes.

Here's a favorite one of my granddaughter...it was on my camera, so I think my youngest daughter took the pic. I don't remember getting that close to the playground myself.

Here's an artsy-fartsy rendition of 3 photos of my girls and myself. I made brushes out of each photo and assembled them as layers and added a mask. I used PhotoImpact X3 for this. I'm on the left an the 2 girls are on the middle and right.

that is exceptional. there are many artistic portraiture approaches especially for kids offered by current software, limited only by the imagination.

that is exceptional. there are many artistic portraiture approaches especially for kids offered by current software, limited only by the imagination.

I made brushes (similar to PS brushes) out of each of the 3 photos and was able to "paint" each brush where I wanted them to be then applied the mask--the grid like layer.

There are so many creative things we can do with the proper imaging software.

not really a portrait, but a spinoff.

not really a portrait, but a spinoff.
the geometry of the weave in the hat, the hint of a child's face, the eye, the skin, the snot nose.
it is often preferable to try to eliminate any distracting background by using thin depth-of-field to blur it, or to place darkness in the background. Too many great photos are lost to poor background control
