This recipe is from a book called "Gradual Vegetarian" by Lisa Tracy

2 cups cooked lentils
1/2 cup finely diced sauteed nuts ans vegetables (carrots, onions, peppers, squash, etc
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp soy sauce
oatmeal
1 T oil

mash together the lentils and vegetables, stir in the egg and the soy sauce. Add enough uncooked oatmeal to hold it together so the mixture will hold together. Shape into patties and place them on waxed paper and chill for about 1/2 hour. Saute in oil on both sides until crisp.

Makes 4 patties.

Enjoy

Neither here nor there.
NOTE that I've made lentil burgers in the past, you can use any lentil you like. I have found, however, that the red lentils make a much nicer burger followed by the french black lentils, then green lentils.

I say this because you can find green lentils pretty much anywhere, the other two you may want to order online, and they make a great meatloaf as well.

Sounds wonderful! I have the barest kitchenette, here at “The Home.” So, I go to WM, and buy Morningstar Farms Grillers, both types. When you’re limited in capability, and energy, you seek the best options.

Good on yuh! Thanks for bringing hope to many!

Sounds interesting and easy. I have all ingredients on-hand which is another plus. Do these patties warm up nicely? I could not eat more than one at a time. When I make salmon patties one can of salmon makes four patties and I find they warm up fine in the microwave, but do not freeze well.

I cooked them, let them come to room temp, wrapped in plastic wrap and put into a quart freezer bag and froze them.

I don’t think there were any left to warm up, although that was during the years when I refused to have a microwave, I’d probably eat them cold with no problem

I need to make some soon

Any more recipes? - my housemate is mostly vegetarian (she eats some fish) and we've got tons of lentils and dried beans.

I cannot cook with soy sauce or anything soy.

Soy mimics estrogen, and estrogen helps feed my wife’s cancer. Her oncologist says no soy.
Try coconut aminos. Similar in taste to soy sauce without any soy.

Breakfast here is often a black bean burger split between two corn tortillas. Cheese, microgreens/sprouts, salsa. Fold into tacos. Yummy, satisfying, and no blood sugar gymnastics.

I love black bean burgers. I use the low carb flour tortillas. My only issue with making beans burgers is that I can't stop eating it.

I've really got to get off my duff and do some sprouting. One of my favorite sprouts is lentil, although I have a nice selection of other things.

truly fermented soy sauce is actually very good for you, it's the quickly fermented stuff, less than six months old, that you should avoid. I learned this about tofu as well as fermented soy beans known as black beans in asian markets.
Some women who have had hormone sensitive breast, ovarian or endometrial cancer - the most common type of these cancers - should not eat soy, because soy is an estrogen mimicker.

I make chickpea salad for sandwiches. I make it just like I would make tuna or chicken salad. Chop everything in the food processor till it is a consistency that you like. Another way to make a chickpea salad is to add your choice of onion or scallion, red and green peppers, tomatoes or sundried tomatoes, celery, capers, olives, avocado and corn. Dress it with oil and vinegar with some chili powder, agave or honey, something hot if you like. I sometimes add chipotle in adobo.
I also like to make pasta with chickpeas, spinach and sundried tomatoes. Garlic, olive oil, herbs to taste. A chunky pasta such as penne, shells or fusilli work well.
I do not have any more precise recipes, I just cook by feel and taste.

Getting back to lentils, many different beans or legumes can be used in place of one another in recipes. Lentils, for example, do have a more distinctive flavor than chickpeas so the recipe seasonings and other ingredients would have to agree, however, you may find an existing recipe where lentils could be substituted.

Here’s a snack recipe I’ve tried and liked. Again, there are many variations out there on the net so use this recipe as a starting point.

One reason I asked for Lentil or Bean Burger recipes or links is that there are hundreds of them out there and I was hoping people would post about their favorites to save time. Some have rave reviews and others say things like "falls apart and states weird."

I do make hummus, it is kind of a go-to Summer food in our house.

My doctor also says no soy due to the type of kidney stones I've had (and hope NEVER to have again). It's very difficult to avoid soy altogether since it's in almost all processed foods. The coconut aminos sound interesting. Where do you find them?

Ok, I am going to try this one more time, Lidle's had a bean sale and we bought some, waited a week, and then bought all the black beans they had (we figured we had given people enough time and they didn't buy any).

So please, rather than tell me there are a zillion recipes for black bean burgers on the net (there are and that's the problem) could anyone recommend one or two that they like and that they know turns out well (or at least you and your family like them?)

Any suggestions or actual links to the website recipe are most appreciated - I get overwhelmed looking at many websites and I have no idea what really works and what does not. I haven't tried the lentil recipe posted here but I plan to - thanks so much for anyone's help with this.

I'm getting really bored of just pasta and messes of vegetables in the Summer for myself and my vegetarian housemate.

I'd use the lentil recipe. I'm beginning to see some bean burgers in my future. My problem when I made the lentil burgers was that no one else liked them except me and I ate them all in a short period of time. My body seems to have an issue with whether its full or not.

I know my precious DH would not touch them with a ten foot pole.

I use bread crumbs instead of oatmeal and add fresh ground cumin, tiny pinch of red pepper flake, garlic and onion powder to taste.

Dumb question here....but do the lentils / black beans taste that much different when made into a burger? If I go to the extra trouble will it be that much different than just eating just the beans and lentils by themselves? I have always wondered if people made these because of the taste or because they just wanted to mimic the experience of eating an actual burger.

I've made veggie burgers of various types for years. I know I have a cookbook somewhere with a bunch of different recipes for them. Now if I could get my books as organized as I'm getting my food storage.

If you have recipes to share, I'd be interested. I used to have a good recipe, lost, and haven't been able to duplicate it.

How about blue lentils?
