An Assistant Police Chief Just Resigned After Sharing Shockingly Racist Facebook Post

Another racist ghoul – spurred on by Trump’s lead – has come clawing to the surface. An assistant police chief at the Eastwood Police Department in Louisiana has resigned after it was revealed that he posted a vile, disgustingly racist image on his Facebook page, reports HuffPost.

Wayne Welsh, the bigot in question, posted a meme of a mother drowning her daughter in a bathtub with the caption “When your daughter’s first crush is a little negro boy.”

The fact that somebody, let alone a law enforcement officer, would feel comfortable enough in his prejudices to share something as heinous as this meme provides sad commentary on the state of Trump’s America.

“When I found out about it, I couldn’t believe I had to call him. I called him at work and asked him what the hell is going on. He done it. He said it and he realized what he had done after he done it and he deleted it but it was too late,” Police Chief Ernest Villejoin told local news affiliate KADN.

“It’s not against the law to share something on Facebook. It’s social media. Internet. I shared somebody else’s posts and everybody mad at me again. So Facebook police mad at me,” Welsh posted to his page, reports KADN.

Later, he posted a less defensive message: “Well, I posted something on Facebook that made a lot of people mad. Well, I’m sorry for what happen. Ya have a blessed day.”

Of the two, it seems like the first is the more authentic. Presumably, he saw the backlash and decided to strike a more apologetic tone. Regardless, there is no defending the horrible, hateful meme. It reveals a complete lack of morality and character, and Welsh deserved to lose his job.

It’s bad enough to be a proud racist, it’s exponentially worse to be a proud racist cop. American doesn’t deserve public servants this bad.

Agree, I was curious too. Kid isn't struggling, and the mother isn't muscling her down. Just looks like an exercise in exhaling under water, preliminary to a swim lesson in a pool.

Hope the writer gets push back on the 'following trump's lead' part of the article. He's a lot of things, but what has he ever done to warrant that conclusion? Nothing. As far as the cop, and his predicament, I have no problem with that either. Stupid should have consequences, as far as I'm concerned.

1) He a right to his opinion, I 've seen cops separate personal beliefs and opinions from professional duties so it can be done.

2) I'm retired now, while I know and have socialized wit1h mixed race couple in the military and dealt with them professionally as a cop, it's not something I would do and my personal belief is it's wrong. However it's their life to screw up, we each have to live with the consequences of our actions.

That's exactly what it looks like to me. "Breathe in, dear" (kid's face is out of the water), "Now breathe out bubbles under the water" (helps kid put face under the water.)

Somehow that meme strikes me as very funny. It shouldn't, but I'm in my hotel room after a 12 hour day, I'm dehydrated and more than a little in pain. Clearly the original intent of the photo wasn't racist-as most have said it looks instructional-not mean spirited or overtly or inadvertently racist.

Besides-a good parent would tell the daughter the problems with race mixing. Drowning or violence achieves no purpose in this context.

Not really, it's just a lapse in the suitable-for-the-public editing module. Work with crime lab people for a while. Work with reporters for a while. The humor gets pretty raw and bleak. Newsroom Xmas tree decorated with corpse pictures, for example. It's part of coping. But you don't put that on Facebook, if you have a lick of sense.
