Muffler suggestions....

Ok ive got a 1965 volkswagen beetle with a 1600 cc motor in it. Today I took off the muffler pipes and am digging the sound, only problem is its a tad too loud for me. Does anyone know of a style of muffler system or pipes that I can get to keep the throaty V-8ish sound but tone the volume a bit? Perhaps refine it? If you need more info about the lil car just ask :)

Maybe an echo chamber, or as the hip-hop rice rocket posse calls them-Monza pipes. Those flared oversize pipes have some sort of resonator in them. I would guess it'd sound like the old dunebuggies with the "stinger" header/motorcycle megaphone muffler. Only problem is you'd have to buy one to try it.

Yeah ive heard a bug with fart cannons on it, im not in favor for that kind of sound, i looked around today and wished that flowmaster made a muffler series for type 1 :shk:

Head to Barnes&Noble to thumb thru Hot VW's. Check out JC Whitney. Look for a header and muffler combo. Your type 1 is unmodified?

Unmodified sept for the slightly bigger motor (65 models had the 1200 cc in them) and even then the motors the standard pict 31 carb, single barrel, single carb. I havent had the real cash to do a few things to it, been more concerned with things like electrical (hahahah who am i kidding stable electrical on a volkswagen  )

This is my real first attempt at customizing the bugger, and really all i wanted to do was take them off and clean them up so that they were shiny again, and then I had to move it and it was like "Wow im digging that sound"

The overall electrical system in the bug has been pretty well tomahawked, im basically to the point of just killing the bug for a week or so and just rebuild the electrical system (as much as i hate to think of it :shk: ) As for the motor dont know, but its not the 60 horsepower standard 1600 cc its the 58 hp (Dont understand the difference or -why- volkswagen did it like that but)

The motors number is....

1861950

If that helps any.

I'll check my manuals at my Mom's place. I had to sell mine a couple of years ago, as well as I sold a couple of baskets of spare parts. I don't you'll be able to get anything off the shelf cheap, unless there is a EMPI dealer, or something like that in your neck of the woods.

I sent you a pm.
