…… Need recommendations for an Apple Peeler, Slice, Corer

Need recommendations from other members on a good, clamp to table/counter (not suction base) apple peeler, slicer, corer that fits larger apples (potatoes too)
We had an older White Mountain Apple Peeler, slicer that wasn't large enough for the apples we have. We also had a Norpro Apple Mate 1 that was working well, but the prongs on the shaft fork broke while doing the 2nd apple:cry:. The shaft is NOT interchangeable.

With my RA hand peeling is difficult and painful. I've got almost 2 cases of apples to dehydrate and really would like to get these done soon.
Thanks, Genny

what are the reviews like? Maybe try ebay for an antique unit?
There are only 16 reviews from the last 10 years, most were happy with it, one said the quality was not what they were looking for ?

Will look on ebay, do you happen to know the actual "model/age" of the one you have of your Mom's ? Does it do larger apples, the White Mountain one we had wasn't large enough.

Neither here nor there.

No it doesn't do really large apples, my mom bought hers from Rural King probably around 1982 or so. It's in the basement, someplace, not sure what the model number is.

What she did for really large apples is she had a round corer and took out the cores and then use her meat slicer to slice the apples thin, this was before mandolins were so popular. I'd recommend using the larger kitchenaide mandolin for making thin slices, and don't bother with removing the peels since that's where most of the vitamins are anyway.

I don't think I could do the coring by hand and I don't have a mandolin for the Kitchenaid. I've tried dehydrating a few apples with the peel on and it it took longer, plus didn't taste as good to me.

This is what I have and I have a smaller one as well.

There's a commercial unit for $529.00 not sure what your budget is or how many apples you're working on.
We have almost 2 bushels/cases of apples.
Budget? well lets just say that's waayyy out of our price range. 20.00-30.00 is semi pushing it right now also. Erik has to have more surgery and will be missing more work.
He's already had 4 surgeries in the last 2 years and 2 months, missed alot of work and the bills are not getting any smaller.
I thank you for your replies and help.

There was a company called "Pampered Chef" we have two of their apple peeler's, they do not slice but will take out the core at the same time while peeling.
We live in orchard country and apples peaches everywhere, so we are set up tp do apple sauce and make apple pie mix gets canned then put on the shelf until we want to make an apple pie.

I have an antique apple peeler that has been in my family for ages. I know they might be hard to find, but I have never found a newer one that works. I don't know how expensive an antique iron one might be, but if you can find one and afford it it will work better than any of the newer ones. I guess ebay would be the place to start.

Ok; I did a search after posting that and Pampered Chef is still around but no longer making the apple peeler's.

I agree with the Pamperd Chef peeler, love mine. Also good for peeling mid sized potatoes, the slices are just right for au gratin taters.
There are many Pampered Chef peelers on ebay. Consider getting the green handled auger accesory as well, it makes thicker slices, good for apple pie.

We have a couple of the pampered chef ones and they work well. Maybe ask around to folks and see if somone has one you can use. Also try Facebook Marketplace or Craigslsit for one locally.

While we’re here, my wife had a recipe for an apple cake that takes “chopped cooked apples”. I can peel and chop no problem, but there are no directions for the cooking. Just until they are soft? Add anything to them? Recipe has spices already.

Just cook them in a covered pan with a TINY bit of water in the bottom (to help prevent scorching) until they're tender. Best would be to use a steamer insert... apples scorch easily. If you chop them first, they won't take more than 10 minutes or so..

We found a peeler/slicer/corer at a local store for less than $15.00 brand new. So far it's working well. It's a Maxam brand with a suction base not a clamp base, but it will do for our immediate needs.
Would love to have one of the Pampered Chef ones that clamp on to table, but maybe in the future.

Thanks to all who responded. Now back to apple peeling/slicing/coring !!!

There are Pampered Chef slicers available on ebay
Oh, I know, believe me I've looked. I need to do some more research to determine if there are different models, one better than the other, etc...
Also, most of the prices with shipping are alot more than the $15.00 we paid for the one we are now using, money's tight (for everyone, not just us).
Erik is having more surgery on Fri. and we aren't certain if that surgery will be a "quick fix" or lead to more involved surgery and recovery.
