Farm New way to fold newspaper pots

I have been using newspaper pots for years. I don't like the circular crushed ones because they always seem to have the bottom fall out at the least convenient moment. So I started folding them. But the folding method I was using required the use of staples or glue to hold the shape. After a bit I realized it had to be staples because the glue would let go and the pot would fall apart.

This year I was looking on YouTube for the mental refresher on folding the pots when I ran across this video.

I love this method. No extra tabs, no staples/glue. And a good size pot. A larger one than I had prior and using the same amount of paper. And I've been using them this season. So far they have held up and worked beautifully.

Just a note, I use a single sheet of the heavier paper used for some ads. (Down here it's generally Mattress Firm ads.) Or two sheets thick of the thinner paper. When planting I rip the bottom out. Sometimes I leave the sides, other times I just slide them right up and over once the plant is in place. If you leave the sides make sure that they are completely buried. Doing so will actually prompt the plant to root deeper until the pot completely breaks down.

I use newspaper pots, too, but use a different method only needing 2 very small pieces of scotch tape per pot. I fold a single sheet of newspaper in half down its length and wrap it around a double old fashioned glass with straight sides, with the fold at the top and leaving about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of paper hanging out from the bottom of the glass and securing the side with 1 piece of tape. Then I fold the excess paper over the bottom of the glass as if I were wrapping a present and secure that with a piece of tape. Slide the pot off the glass and repeat until you have as many pots as you need.
