Poison Ivy

I have Poison Ivy all over my neck and face as well as one eye, which is almost swollen shut. I think I am getting it from the hay that I am feeding. My husband is ill and can’t help with the chores so there is no way I can stay away from the hay. I have used Aloe Vera, yellow dock, lemon juice but nothing has helped.

Country, how horrible! My last bad case of PI apparently came from a load of bark mulch.

Do a search on this forum. It is something we have discussed many times. Also, check the herbal forums at gardenweb.com.

As far as getting re-exposed, that is a little easier. You will have to thoroughly wash. Everything! There are solutions, technu might be one of them, that you can rub on your hands ahead of time that should help.

Good luck!

hi country
in addition you may try camomile lotion, and swallow some benadryl, or some lotion that has benadryl in it instead of the camomile.

I think Oma has the right idea. I would take benadryl and get the lotion that has it in to apply topically. You can get the generic versions that don't cost very much.

We use Jewel Weed with good results. Please read up on it before you use it as there are some things to watch for. We just steep a handful in boilingwater until it turns red, cool and apply to the welts. Kathy

I got a bad case of it when we moved to Mo. for 2 years. I just got it from the air, didn't have to touch it.

I ended up in the ER. They gave me predizone (sp?). And told me to take double the dose of benadryl. I asked them if it would knock me out...they said no as long as I had the poison in my system it wouldn't. Once the poison left and the rash left then back it off to the normal dose for anothe day or so.

It worked great. I was miserable. No lotion helped.

My DH's cousin told us that there is a shot you can get and it will get rid of it in just a few hours..and keep you from getting it the rest of the year.
