Dreyfuss blasts Bush, urges Florida delegates to help Kerry

KEN THOMAS

Associated Press

BOSTON - Actor Richard Dreyfuss offered a scathing critique of the Bush administration on Tuesday, urging Florida delegates to help John Kerry.

"For the past few weeks, the Bush re-election campaign has begun a ferocious effort to cast doubt on John Kerry's record as a senator, as a soldier, implications that he is not honest, not bright, that his wife is odd, that he is only a massive hypocrite from Vietnam days on," Dreyfuss said.

"It must be remembered that the Bush White House has a separate talent for character assassination that must not be confused with a talent for governance," said Dreyfuss, who starred in "Jaws" and "Mr. Holland's Opus."

"Kerry is an adult - he thinks things through. He learns from the present as well as the past. To George Bush, thinking things through is for sissies."

---

Actor Alec Baldwin told the state's delegates that a second term for President Bush could lead to "multiple" resignations on the U.S. Supreme Court and reverse course on issues such as abortion.

"There are people who are in the bullpen right now, who are in the on-deck circle right now - you know their names," Baldwin said, mentioning Hispanic lawyer Miguel Estrada and Mississippi Judge Charles Pickering, two of Bush's appeals court nominations.

Estrada withdrew his nomination in September and Bush gave Pickering a temporary appointment.

Baldwin, who recently appeared in "The Cooler," said judges like Pickering and Estrada were "ready to ravage individual rights in this country."

---

Family members of John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry continued to press the case of the Democratic ticket to the Florida delegation.

Kerry's older sister, Peggy Kerry, asked Florida's activists to take nothing for granted in the upcoming election.

"It's not ABB - 'Anybody but Bush.' It's KEY - 'Kerry, Edwards and you'," Kerry said.

Andre Heinz, Heinz Kerry's son, said he was hoping Florida avoids another narrow contest and overtime session.

"Look forward to saying, 'there goes Florida - no contest,'" Heinz said.

Ahhhh, the latest gem from another world renowned political anal ist.

Mr Dreyfuss says: "Kerry is an adult - he thinks things through. He learns from the present as well as the past. To George Bush, thinking things through is for sissies."

Yes, Kerry is an adult. Yes, he thinks things through (really?). But wait; it seems Mr Kerry questions his own thoughts, considering the number of times he has reversed his own decisions 180 degrees. Does that sound like the adult thought pattern you want for President? Oh, I suppose the next sentence answers the flip-flopping on issues when he goes on to say "He learns from the present as well as the past".
To paraphrase that thought we could contend that Mr Kerry is still learning from both the past and present and should be expected to make his next radical turnaround in thought pattern sometime very soon.

And I just love the next line, from a group that daily criticizes Mr Bush and the Republicans as a whole for having the audacity to challenge the performance statistics of the Democratic platform and the failures of same by saying that Mr Bush believes thinking things through is for sissies. ROFL

To borrow a phrase directly from the Democrats, "That's mean spirited" (of the Dems). Perhaps Mr Dreyfuss should stick to acting instead of dropping the trademark Democrat slur of the opposition they can't beat with honest debate. It's the ole "build yourself up by tearing the other guy down" routine. No mention of serious proposals for revamping the system they just trashed; just more criticism of the opponent. Frankly, both parties do their share of mud slinging but it has become a badge of honor and a trademark of the Dems rather than an occasional jab to ignore the issue and cover their ignorance with criticism of the other candidate.
One can see how desparate the Dems have become when they recruit 12 year olds to Bash the current administration. Teresa Heinz Kerry invited twelve-year-old Ilana Wexler of Oakland, California to address the delegates.

"...that his wife is odd,..."

If you didn't think she was ODD... you did after the speach last night... Teresa Heinz gave the most bizarre speach I have ever heard at a convention. Just plain wierd. Mostly about herself, sort of. Every other phrase I said: "what does that mean?" I'll say she's odd... but I digress... too bad about Dreyfuss... I liked Jaws too.

Incredible! I have heard nothing but slander from the dem candidates for months, and then he comes up with something like this. Ever notice how they loudly accuse the other side of the thing they have been doing themselves?
