Guess I'll start us again. Hope Kilagal is okay--she usually starts these, but hasn't posted in a bit.

Did my taxes yesterday and will actually get $400 back this year. So I spent $100 of it at Emergency Essentials today and ordered the Fruit and Vegetable Favorite Combo--6 cans of freeze dried fruits and veggies on sale for $90. Added in the shipping at $9. They are on backorder, but will ship when in stock. Thought it was a decent deal.

Went to Harbor Freight and bought two more of the moving blankets using a coupon. Now each car has two of these blankets and a fleece blanket for emergencies. I also cleaned out my car, which was a disaster area :)

Working a lot at the tax office, so decent paychecks through 4/15. That's keeping me busy, so not much else happening. What is everyone else up to?

Both DH and DD (17) got jobs this week!!! DH and I had to go to the big city, so we hit a couple thrift stores and a great nursery. I picked up some great herb books and a Meyer lemon tree for my mud room (it's only about 3' tall - and that includes the pot). I have to work quite a bit this week (just found out I'll be going to days in May), so most likely not a lot of prep work will get done.

Putting together an order so I can update our food travel bags. Basically these are "go bags" for food but I don't use them just as go bags otherwise the stuff wouldn't get rotated properly. I'll throw them in the vehicle if we are going to the park, taking a road trip, etc. because you just never know. (grin) Plus I've grown too used to traveling with kids and I don't care how old they are you always have one in the mix that is either a bottomless pit or who is never starving except at the most inconvenient moment.

This time the order goes to Pack-It Gourmet at http://www.packitgourmet.com/View-All-Grocery-Items-c108.html

I'm getting packets of: powdered goats milk, powdered coconut cream, beet borsch soup (yes I know it sounds crazy), freeze dried black olives, some burgundy wine powder (I cook with wine a lot), Chablis wine powder, freeze dried great northern beans, honey powder, maple syrup powder, molasses powder, freeze dried orange segments, pumpkin soup, vinegar powder (never tried it so it is for experimenting with), yogurt powder (also another item to experiment with), powder smoothie mixes (just require cool water), and then one of my daughters likes their nasty carob energy cubes (gack) so I agreed to get her some of those.

Next order I've got in the budget is for minimus.biz and basically I need to stock up on individual condiments that I can't get locally ... A-1 in a packet kind of stuff. I also need to put together a care package for my cousin contracting in Afghanistan. I'm still a little weirded out by him eating camel. I thought I would eat almost anything but ... camel? Really? Uh ... not sure I could do it. LOL

Congrats on the jobs! These days that is worth celebrating.

Hi Kathy- I'm new member/long time lurker (but I've been on ttol for while) and had a question. I see you're buying some of the same powdered condiments I have started experimenting with and wondered if you'd had any issues with sour cream powder that was rancid. I've bought several cans..this one was less than a year old from Emergency Essentials and I was going to put together some "meals in a jar" with it. It smelled off when I opened it-so I used it in the dinner I was making that night. It totally ruined the dish (and I'm not a picky eater!)

Glad I found out BEFORE I made all those meals-but now a little gun shy about using it in anything.

Any experience with it??

Thanks!!

Hmmm. I haven't had any trouble with powdered sour cream but I did have some powdered butter be "off" one time. I found the can's seam had been compromised. How old was the sour cream powder and how had it been stored if you don't mind me asking?
