…… Purple Hull Peas

I have purple hull peas coming out of my ears and even more coming on. Here is my question. Mom says I can just shell them and bag them up and put into the freezer. MIL says I need to blanch them first. Who's right? I've already frozen about 6 months worth using my moms' method. The ones I'm about to put up will need to last longer than a year. Any suggestions as to which method will last longer. Yes, I plan to can some as well. Thanks

Just based on general experience, not specific to southern peas, I would say that blanched will keep longer, but not much past a year. For longer storage pressure can. Good luck and happy eating.

I've been just bagging and freezing beans (incl purple ones) all Summer. The consensus is that they do even better unblanched

PLEASE send them to me! We love them and can't find them! I've always blanched mine, but I don't think it really matters!
