Farm Question on Painting IBC Containers

Hi Friends,

I have a couple of IBC Containers I'm planning on using for rain catchment. I need to get them coated or covered so they don't grow algae on the inside. I'm looking for a cost effective solution.

Can I just paint them with vaspar type latex outdoor house paint or do I have to get something specially formulated for plastics? I'd like to get a move on but my brain is a bit stuck on this.

I painted my two with plain old rattle can paint from wal mart, two years ago and they are holding the paint just fine.

I think the kind I used was general purpose paint for plastic Krylon I think

I wrap mine in panda wrap or silage tarp. White side out. THese are for maple sap so I want to keep light and heat out.

Update: I just ended up painting them with outdoor house paint and it seems fine. You do have to put 2-3 coats on it though.
