RT 9:30 - Max Velocity Severe Weather

This Weather Pattern Will CRUSH Records...

In this weather forecast, we are breaking down a STRONG ARCTIC BLAST that is coming to the USA. These will impact areas like the Midwest, Central Plains, Northern Plains, Pacific Northwest, and more. This weather pattern is a part of El Nino, which will lead to more active weather in the Southern Tier of the USA, while the Northern Tier will be quite inactive. This will lead to some snow events, showers and storms, and perhaps severe weather. Find the latest details of the weather across the United States in our latest weather forecast.

Well, I'm a happy camper. Nearly all of that stuff is going to slide south of us here in the Great White North (N MN).
God, I love El Nino years! :D
Have fun, kids. Insulate those pipes, bring in the dog dishes, and have extra fuel for the fire.

Forecast here (NW Iowa) is 5 to 8 inches of snow with 40 mph winds and temps not too bad until later in the week when -8 degrees is low. Nothing startling about this. Typical Midwest winter weather. Now if they forecast 12 to 16 inches of snow, 40 mph winds with -0 weather for 4 or 5 days it would be a different story. Still, I'm glad I'm retired and can hibernate and ignore the slippery mess.

I am right outside Omaha to the southwest. We are supposed to get 8-12" and near blizzard conditions on Tuesday morning. I got my snowblower gassed up and fired up and let it run this afternoon so that's done. Tomorrow was supposed to be the first mandatory Monday back in the office but I got a text saying that we are supposed to work from home tomorrow instead. That is one positive thing about the 'vid is not having to burn vacation days if the driving is hazardous which it sounds like it will be. I will commute to my garden level workspace tomorrow and watch it snow.

Forgot to add that my older sister is a major weather nerd who lives in Lincoln which is also supposed to get dumped on. She gets real wound up and watches the Weather Channel non stop if there is a winter storm. Her and my brother in law left for Jamaica on Saturday. I just texted her and told her she is missing all the excitement. We haven't had a big storm here since the winter before last. I'm guessing she will be happy to miss it while lying in the sun drinking Red Stripes in the land of Bob Marley.

Some areas in the Northeast have seen a foot of snow!!!

That would be us! Owner and his wife cleared the drive this a.m.

Wife reported that snowblower was no longer "turning."

Owner found that two "roll-pins" which attach the impeller to the horizontal shaft had sheared. A difficult repair in one's driveway on one's knees.

So this afternoon Owner cleared a path into his "man cave" where he has a workbench and various metalworking and other tools. This one of those cases where Owner said "I'm glad I have a heated man-cave."

By 4 p.m. the snowblower was repaired. Wife had finished the "turn-arounds" by hand (8" of snow) but snow continued to fall.

Tonight after dinner Owner snowblowed the entire drive AND the turn-arounds. AND the path to the chickens. AND the path to the wood-pile.

Total snow for us a little over one foot. Right now Owner's "Pepsi Hits the Spot" thermometer reads 22 degrees. Prediction is for 13 degrees by tomorrow morning.

I confess I took a little "roll" in the snow. Yunno - I think I was made for snow. Therapeutic.

Busted shear pins? Hahaha...that's why I always remind people to bring in the dog dishes.

A super-heavy deep snow or frozen chunky gravel ruts will do it, too.

According to Owner this was not the "shear pin" of name. Those two are on the front "cutter" and Owner even has a couple in a plastic "holder" front and center of the machine he can use to replace them.

Rather, these were what pins the "thrower" (impeller) to the front-back shaft. Made doubly difficult because they are so called "tension pins" - which are a drive fit each into their hole.

Each pin broken in three pieces - requiring six removals with a punch.

Two broken 1/4" pin punches later...Owner has an "imaginative" vocabulary - although a trifle repetitive.

Owner says the extraction was much aided by removing the swing "discharge chute" - which he discovered was actually made to be removed easily.

"Cordless Impact Wrenches are God's gift to mechanics."

Ugh. Gives me horror show flashbacks. (N MN).

That's why I pay a guy now to plow the driveway. All the years I worked, I did this danged 700 foot driveway with a walk-behind. One new knee and two new shoulder joints partial payment...so far. Retired - I don't care if I get out 'til the spring thaw, so if snowed in for a couple days that it takes him to get here, FINE. And my experienced philosophy now is, let somebody else wreck and repair their equipment.

Our driveway is 3 miles long. We only got about 5 inches in round 1; expecting 1-3 for round 2 beginning late tonight. Sweetie plowed our half the drive; steepest part. D's half is easily just driven on, but then her jeep "Helga" is a beast. She does need to be cautious on one curve however.

That's sposed to leave 5 more snow events in this current "train". I'd be happy to have snow on the ground for a month; it's been a couple years since we had a decent snow. Our ponds need filling up and everything's been very dry.

Weather reports and environmental conditions are meaningless to the rest of us if you don't give us your general location.
