Something about Fall?

I'm with you Kim99! I have been scouring the recipe books, dreaming of hearty beef stews and dumplings, yummy crock pot meals and dutch oven fixins. It was 90 here, but it didn't matter- I got a newer crock pot, fired it up and made some swedish meatballs, served with noodles and potatoes, with a side of lingonberry and hearty french bread. I can honestly say that in the heat, it wasn't the best meal afterwards, but on a scale of 9-10 it was the best-- just needed the cooler weather to make it a 10!

I am dreaming of pot roasts, kielbasas, roast chicken, and corned beef and cabbage.... pot pies and all that is comfort food.

Most of the time I like to eat a lighter California- PNW cuisine-- lots of fruit, wraps, salmon, and healthy stuff..... but yes, come fall my :dvl1: appetite comes out.

Must be a hard winter comin'! :lkick:

Does anyone else feel like cooking more once Fall starts to roll around? I know it's only August, but already I'm seeing all the fall decorations at Michaels and magazines with "autumn recipes". I just get in the mood to cook and bake.

I'm in So. Cal. so it's not like we get the kind of fall weather and scenery like you
see on Hallmark cards and calendars ( and my avatar!). But once the apples start piling up I start baking like it was 30 degrees outside. I think this is my favorite time of year. Soups and stews, Yum!

That's weird, my original post is showing after your reply. Something's screwy with the board I think

So you're a californian too? I've been trying to talk my husband into moving to Montana for a couple of years, I think I've finally convinced him. Now we just have to figure out how to do it. Bet I'll get plenty of fall weather up there!LOL

Am compiling some of my favorite soup recipes to post soon. Kim

This board is acting screwy- I don't know why my last post appeared at the top- lets see what this one does.....

No, I am not a Californian- I am a trueblooded Pacific Northwester-- Seattle area variety. We do eat a lot more California cuisine in this area, however, especially with all the great fruit and produce we get from you! I notice the difference when I travel out of state- the farther I get from the W coast, the crummier the produce. We really are spoiled out here!

Well, up here we may or may not get a true "fall"-- usually we only get two seasons up here- summer.... and RAIN! ;)

Will be looking forward to your soup recipes- I will have to search for some of my own...

I love fall, it's my favorite season!! I always get the urge to cook and can this time of year. My husband teases me that I go into "hybernation mode"; I want to can anything that doesn't move . I already have the urge to make chili and soup, but it's too dang hot to eat it! I have some canned stuff left yet, but all we feel like eating is ice cream! I can't remember when the last time was that we had a summer this hot.
When the weather is cooler, I could eat soup and sandwiches just about every night. That's my comfort food! I just bought a block of Velveeta cheese today because I'm craving tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Just don't know when I'm going to feel like making it!

Man that sounds good. Maybe some pumpkin soup too. Homemade chili.

Fleece slippers and an oversized red plaid flannel shirt with old, soft jeans. And a DVD by the fireplace. :D

What a life!! My favorite is a pair of hiking boots, a flannel shirt and a walk in the woods. I love the smell of the woods in the fall, and taking a walk always stirs up my appetite!! We always went home and had chili and rye bread, or just coffee and peanut butter on rye sandwiches if we weren't real hungry.

I know what you mean, I just put a turkey in the freezer along with a bone in ham.

I LOVE the Fall, stews, chili's, spaghetti.
