Stitches Events/XRX Inc has declared bankruptcy

XRX Inc today announced that it's bankrupt and all communications should go through their lawyer.

XRX published knitting & crochet books and ran events like Stitches West and Stitches At Home. One of the public faces was/is Benjamin Levisay: he ran the Stitches side of things, had a podcast, and threatened to doxx people who asked a yarn dyer for their money back.

To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been much (public) indication that XRX was headed for bankruptcy. People who went to a Stitches West in March said that it was quieter than expected, but if one slow show can sink a company then there were much bigger problems behind the scenes. This lack of notice also means that there are probably lots of people who don't know they should get in line for their money back and to cancel related travel plans, so please spread the word.

Situation developing, please share in comments, etc etc.

ETA For people who paid for vendor tables or admission via credit card, it's worth talking to your bank or card provider to see if you can do a chargeback. That way you can get your money back now, rather than go into the line of creditors.

I don't know the backstory, but it is sad when the few good (or formally good) places for textile people to meet up and share information go away.

As it is, so many of the good books now have to be self-published because they can't find a publisher. In the early days, I relied on Interweave (now broken in two with the weaving and spinning books folded into a separate press, when it started as "Spin-Off) and XRX publications.

At least Ravelry seemed to have turned off the controversy. As long as they don't allow anything political, well their choice. I did not like obvious political - spin much at all. A pink pussy hat for your auntie was fine but a red-maga pattern for your nephew was not.

In the past, just having a Donkey, Elephant, and maybe Canadian Flag was considered not taking sides. Sort of like an old book I had with possible scarf and hat colors for all the then-big National and College football teams.
