A mini-mart clerk in Louisiana was fired after a video showed her throwing a bucket of water on a homeless person sitting outside the store in frigid temperatures.

The incident took place Monday at the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge. Temperatures were around 26 degrees that day as a severe Arctic blast swept the U.S.

Kasey Young, the 44-year-old clerk, uploaded the clip of herself throwing a bucket of water on the homeless person sitting in the parking lot. She can be heard yelling, “Move! Not telling y’all again. Move it!.”

Ms. Young then complains about a mess that a group of people made in the store as she walks back inside

Store owner Abdul Muflahi apologized for Ms. Young’s actions and said he fired her the next day

“When I got the news, I didn’t speak to the employee too much,” Mr. Muflahi said at a press conference. “All I told her was to leave the property because we do not handle situations like that.”
The store owner said separately that homeless people loitering was affecting his business. Mr. Muflahi acknowledged that Ms. Young had called the police on homeless people hanging out at the store many times before.

The doused homeless man was taken to a shelter, according to Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome.

Local activists spoke out against Ms. Young’s actions.

“For someone to get ice cold water thrown on them in these below-freezing temperatures is just disrespectful,” Larry McGriffin, a member of Evolve Louisiana, told WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge. “It also could’ve hurt this person physically.”

I will admit that as irritating as dealing with the professional homeless is, I would never ever consider soaking someone in those cold conditions. Just beyond heartless.
Just wait until the urban version of SSS becomes the norm. The Brazilian "death squads" of the 1980's were in response to street children causing so much chaos for businesses.

People can be so cruel. What has happened to compassion?
People can be so cruel.
But,,, what happens to the rights of the business owner?
while the tragedy of the homeless is very real.
many homeless, or beggars, seem to congregate at convenience stores, gas stations, and small businesses with a lot of foot traffic.
they approach customers for money, verbally abuse customers, and sometimes even attack customers.
the homeless usually are dirty and filthy and they bring that dirt and filth with them when they park themselves at a small business. Soiling the visual appeal of the business to the customers eyes.
at some point it starts to drive away customers.
which is detrimental to the success of the business owner.
then the poor homeless people either move on to another business or even take up illegal living in someone else’s property.

Sounds a little too much like Scrooge and the "surplus population" from here.

Believe it or not we seem to have a problem with this at my home! Girlfriend ran off some people last night, we think they have been here before. Not like I have a big yard either. We think they hid out by the brush near the shed. Compassion? Yeah. But they now present a threat.

Yeah, that is pretty heartless behavior. If they are not supposed to be there call the cops and trespass them unless the cops don't do those kinds of calls there.

Stripped naked, first, and not given any warm dry clothes to put on afterwards. Let her sit there freezing, until the cops come and pick her up. Let her punishment fit her crime. I'm a firm believer in an "eye for an eye".
So perhaps, just perhaps,,, this poor wonderful, studying to be a doc ter,,,has been causing problems for the clerk. She seems to single him out.
It seems a much less violent attack than say, a 44 bullet between the eyes.
with out knowing both sides of the story, some of folks here seem to be showing their Karen-ness.

I guess you didn't like the "eye for an eye" part.

This woman most likely figured this was the most humane way. In summer I'm betting they do this.

I give up.
. . . . but did it work? :shr:

If only the compassionate biden regime had one hundred billion dollars to spend on shelters, treatment centers and work training programs we might just be able to all but eliminate homelessness in this nation.

Alas as the wealthy oligarch pigs of this nation do not benefit from such action it will never happen. Instead the homeless and small business owners will suffer in a never ending cycle of decay.

Obviously, pouring water on someone in subfreezing temperatures is not the answer. What was the answer? I'd bet calling the cops had stopped working, customers were complaining, vagrants were making a mess which she (and others) had to clean up.

There has to be discussion and laws regarding the homeless population. They're not going away. In my experience and from what others have told me, many homeless choose to be homeless. There's a lot of illicit drug use, psych issues, ect. Many won't even go to a shelter in freezing temps because they don't want to follow rules. How she handled it was wrong, but cities and towns across the country need to figure out an answer. IMO, letting them squat on the street and harass people is not the answer. There is a lot of violence among them (drugs, psych issues). I don't want my daughter to have to go to work where a bunch of them congregate, and I don't want to either.

Are there good, homeless people down on their luck who want a job and a home? I'm sure there are. In my city the shelters have social workers and others who will assist them in filling out paperwork, getting them clothes for interviews, ect. It's the ones who choose to be homeless, use illicit drugs, panhandle, and are violent who are the concern. Was this fellow down on his luck or a crack head causing problems? We don't know. Either way does not justify the water being thrown on him. I wish the real issue of vagrants pushing people and businesses to the breaking point would also be addressed.

No, leave her in the clothes that are soaked. They won't dry, and they will keep her colder. I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that. What she did was completely wrong and heartless.

The bussed in homeless are a real problem here. Many places I no longer go during the day let alone after dark. Go uptown and dodge the s#*t and needles on the sidewalk. Police do nothing. Well yes, they bring in a small dozer and dumpster to break up the filthy homeless camps every couple months. Child services don't even remove the kids from these camps. It's a real growing problem. These people do not want to be in shelters.

Y’all are very sweet.

How does one become “homeless”???

Screwing over (stealing and lying) to everyone they know is step one. Great folks for sure…

Drug abuse….mental Illness….laziness…a refusal to work “for the man” etc….

Obviously caused the clerk a ton of misery, she had had it.

Bet that dude won’t shit/piss/bother customers there again!

Written by someone who has never been homeless. I've been homeless through no fault of my own, it happens and it can happen to any one of us at any given time.
