WEATHER Summer has arrived in Austin

Well, winter is over here. It was 85 today and will be in the mid or upper 80’s next week. Some areas will break 100°. The infamous “blocking high” that I rant about every year has formed. Once it does, it stays until November.

I thought I could have some cool, refreshing spring days, but it’s not to be. There were only 4 days at or below freezing this past winter, and only another handful under 50. Definitely no winter here this year. Just a dreary, sweaty slide into the blast furnace.

As far south as Tampa it only got up to 75F. Wednesday it will be 81F, cool to the mid 70s for a few days, and then by the weekend be back up into the 80s. I guess I didn’t get my Spring cleaning done early enough. Look for a hot Easter this year, and it is on 3/31. Doggone it.

I feel your frustration it was 81 here and may still be. We did have more cold than you and I did get cold during the night because I would not turn the heat up. I, too, dread the summer heat.

Dennis...totally with you. I planted my entire vegetable garden (excluding sweet bell peppers) last week after looking at the forward forecast. It's disconcerting to see temps this high this early in the year. Summer could be a long, long season...

Thankfully, our 10 day forecast shows 70's every day, perfect temps

I always thought here in Arizona we had the hottest weather. I was sure wrong!! I love the heat here in NW Arizona, can't wait for the 80's and 90's but "it's a dry heat here in Arizona" really does make a huge difference. Dennis, Texas sounds miserable, my heart goes out to you.

A Hurricane Season on Steroids? The season begins 100 days from today, and signs point in the wrong direction

Atlantic Ocean temperatures are exceptionally warm for February.

Get ready. All signs are pointing to a wild hurricane season ahead. Between rising ocean temperatures and the possibility of La Niña, we could be in for a real doozy. Let's break down what's brewing before the season even begins.

First up, the Atlantic is hot, hot, hot right now. We're talking record breaking hot. Once the water hits around 80 degrees, it's like throwing gasoline on a fire when it comes to hurricanes. The warmer the water, the stronger the storms.

Now add in La Niña, which tends to really rev things up by reducing wind shear and making the atmosphere go haywire. Put it all together, and you have a perfect recipe for storm formation, not exactly what we want to see as we're staring down the barrel of hurricane season.

But it goes even deeper than that. Shifting weather patterns are turning up the heat (literally) when it comes to hurricane intensity. With the planet warming, so do the oceans. And warmer oceans pack more punch. We're seeing more Category 3, 4, and 5 hurricanes than ever before. Rapid intensification is becoming the new norm. That's when storm winds surge 35+ mph in just 24 hours. Wild stuff.

We can learn a lot from last season, too. Remember the forecasts called for an El Niño, which typically suppresses hurricane activity? Well, the Atlantic was so darn hot that we still got slammed with 20 named storms. With El Niño fading out, this year could be no holds barred. This is not meant to scare anyone but from everything I am analyzing, signs are increasingly looking that way.

The point is that we need to get smart on all the factors impacting hurricane behavior. Only then can we truly be prepared. I can tell you tons of research and work are being done, along with upgraded computer models to handle better the changes in a storm's path and intensity

Yup. Good idea.

Whatever its causes might be, global warming appears to be happening.

The winter temperatures in my home state of Virginia have been far more moderate than is typical. Midwestern winters are shorter and milder.

Seems that the hot spots are definitely hotter.

I give up.
Kind of weird on and off here too. Day before yesterday was like 19, and a few overnights last week. I wonder if we'll have blizzards in March as usual, but looking at this I doubt it. Weather is messed up everywhere. This is NOT typical Roch weather.

Been checking the weather for various places in the west. Signs of an early spring it seems, just like the groundhog said. The cycle is turning like it always does. Some years it comes earlier and some years it comes a little later. But the cycle always turns at some point. In a few days it will be March. And in like 3 plus weeks will be the equinox where the days and nights will be equal in duration. We might not control the cycle but we can choose to live in joy.

Today is summer with 72 degrees daytime and 42 degrees low overnight. Tuesday will be a nice spring day with temperature of 51 degrees daytime until it turns into winter with temperature of 8 degrees with snow overnight. One thing you can be sure about Iowa weather is that it is insane.

It's 42 degrees here in Marysville WA at 9pm on the 25th of Feb.

And 43 degrees and snowing in North Seattle, must be some very cold air aloft.

Winter is not over. It’s just “fools” winter. It always does this. Then we all get sick again. Then it’s “spring” for a week or so and then summer. This is where I don’t trust what seems to be - not for a moment.

We are burning up here in the panhandle , I've got two vehicles loaded and ready to split , if it comes to it . I think we are good tonight but tomorrow's pretty sketchy. 70 mph gusts 36 mph sustained winds . There has already been mentioned evacuation in our local . I'm sweating this one .
