Nigel Farage Bids Farewell to the EU

Posted on January 29, 2020 by Steven Hayward

We’re less than 48 hours away from Britain’s exit from the European Union (oh happy day!), and today at the EU Parliament in Strasbourg the irrepressible Nigel Farage took a well deserved victory lap. Very much worth watching the whole five minutes here, especially for the cheeky violation of EU Parliament rules against displaying national flags at the end. Watch all the way through to the churlish chairlady, who has clearly learned nothing.

Best line of Farage’s speech: “Populism turns out to be popular!” Heh.

(Runtime: 5:12. It's worth it.)

Historic battle going on in the west; globalism vs populism. No more power without accountability. Short and to the point, the EU is a left-wing dictatorship where the governed have no say in how they shall live their lives.

"This, if the predictions now are right, this will be a victory for real people, a victory for ordinary people, a victory for decent people.

We have fought against the multinationals, we have fought against the big merchant banks, we have fought against big politics, we have fought against lies, corruption and deceit.

And today honesty, decency and belief in nation, I think now is going to win.

And we will have done it without having to fight, without a single bullet being fired, we'd have done it by damned hard work on the ground."

- Nigel Farage, MP UKIP July 24, 2016

Today is Brexit Day – The U.K Formally Departs The European Union at 11:00pm…

I think it is fair to say: no individual has worked harder for this day than Britain’s Nigel Farage. Without his relentless work to organize voters to remove the U.K. from the European Union; and then to organize again -three years later- to break the Brexit stalemate in Parliament; this momentous day would not have arrived. (Via Daily Mail) Boris Johnson will deliver a plea for the country to move on from Brexit as the UK finally leaves the EU tonight.
In an address to be broadcast shortly before Britain’s departure at [11pm U.K. / 6pm U.S. ET], the Prime Minister will insist that Brexit marks ‘not an end but a beginning’.

And in a sign of the new Government’s changed approach, he will convene a symbolic Cabinet meeting this afternoon in Sunderland, the first city to declare for Brexit when the 2016 referendum results came out.
Tonight he will stress his belief that the referendum was a vote not just to leave the EU, but also for lasting change in neglected areas of the country. Mr Johnson will describe Brexit as ‘the moment when the dawn breaks and the curtain goes up on a new act’. (Read more)

In honor of Brexit Day, it’s worth remembering one of the funniest moments in the history of Twitter that occurred June 2016; on the day the U.K. first voted for freedom:

Many of us stayed up that night in June 2016 to watch the Brexit referendum vote returns from polling stations across the U.K…. The establishment shock was incredible when they realized the majority of U.K. citizens voted to leave the European union.

The European shock was only second to a similar American establishment reaction five months later when Donald Trump won the November 2016 presidential election.

It has been a long, stressful and challenging path for Brexit supporters, filled with ups and downs. However, today is a day for all U.K. citizens to enjoy.

Bold new opportunities await…

Congratulations.

Now they just need to give Scotland the choice in their own referendum (something Boris Johnson is out and out refusing to do) or the Scots may resort to methods not see in the "UK" for some time.

On the good side (sort of) some of the politicians in England are already saying the BREXIT is more important than Ireland - meaning they don't much care if Northern Ireland has to be dumped from the UK or not.

That makes the likelihood of an eventual United Ireland a lot higher than it was even a few weeks ago, which like an Independent Scotland doesn't mean it will happen, but it very easily could.

Especially because it looks like the EU (and possibly even the US) are backtracking on their "agreements" to not have a hard border in Ireland.

London knows they can't afford another thirty years of armed occupation in Northern Ireland, and I suspect they will realize they can't do it in Scotland either.

Right now Scottish independence is at about 51 percent of voters, if Boris keeps refusing a referendum (which he still might win) it is likely to be something like 80 percent or higher in a few months.

I mean all politics is local and I think leaving the EU may be the best thing for England, but the Scots were talked into voting to stay in the UK the last time to stay in the EU.

To refuse to let them vote again now that England changed its mind is not playing well in Scotland.

I think Boris is right. Give the UK bounce-back from this extraction some time to flourish. Scotland spit on Independence only 5 years ago.

If Brexit turns out to be a huge economic success, the danged Scots will go with whichever side butters their bread the best. (Bluntly...best welfare program available).

...so has it sunk into the ocean yet? The EU spent a lot of time and money to assure everyone that Britain would be a flaming crater before it sank into the ocean if it left.

What convinced the Scots to stay in was the threat they would be kicked out of the EU if they left and that was backed by Spain that has its own problems in Catalonia.

It took a few months for the EU to realize the terrible "mistake" they had made, but it was too late.

Again, I don't know which move is best for Scotland, but I do know that by preventing another referendum (after passing the other one on what proved to be false information) BoJo is ramping up the anti-English feelings there ever higher.

This is why if he held the thing now, he still might win but wait a few months and unless England is going gangbusters - I think the Scots will vote to leave with up to an 80 percent margin. No one likes being told autocratically what to do.

Haha! Well...if UK let them leave now, 3-4 years down the road when the EU has nothing left but Germany, France and a couple of penniless Belgians, but the UK is thriving, the Scots will beg to be "re-assimilated".
Might as well leave well enough alone for now and save wear and tear.

They picked an auspicious time. They now have the right to quarantine without interference, which they may need. I am glad they chose self-determination.

Way back when, this gave me an immediate joy, and sense that all would be well, and Trump would win... some of this has actually come to pass, and I still have hope- for not just Britain, but us all.

Man. January sure has been a month to remember, eh? :: happy dancin ::
