WEATHER Trapped in my bedroom. Heat index 103°

I can’t be out in the front of the house. The living room is 82°. The a/c can’t keep up when it’s very hot and humid. I have that portable unit that I bought when the central air went out a couple years back. I’ve got it set up and running in the bedroom, which is at 70°. But I can’t just hide here in the back of the house forever. I’m making tomato cabbage soup in the crockpot on the kitchen counter, which has been going since 9:30 this morning, but that can’t be responsible for that much added heat. In any event, the soup will be finished in another hour.

It’s just miserable outside and in. I had to cut up a big cardboard box so it could be hauled away on trash day (tomorrow.) Took ten minutes, and I did it at 9:30 this morning. The heat damn near killed me even then. I wish the humidity would break. I cut the grass four days ago and it needs it again. Ain’t no freakin way.

its 94 right now, and the wind!!! it feels like a blast furnace or the biggest hair dryer in the world. i'm ok with it since i am such a freeze baby. we just got back from the pool. i was kinda cold in the water. the wind made it worse, of course. but as soon as i got out, i laid on a deck chair and sunned myself for a bit. it didn't take long for me to warm up, but my hair and swim suit dried really fast.

its just warm.

Wind here is zero. Zip. Nada. Still as death. It’s that “blocking high” I talk about regularly. Once in place, nothing moves weather wise. Low last night was 78!

we FINALLY got to NOT have the air on yesterday. it was cool enough (high 80's), and the wind allowed us to just have the windows open. it was really nice.

Dennis, that heat is becoming seriously unhealthy for you. Do you get short of breath when you're working in the heat?
Please take care of yourself. If you have any opportunity to relocate for work, it might be a good time to take it.

Same here in DFW. Humid and hot as hell. Dead calm, no air movement. At least this year May was pleasant.

I love Texas, but the summer weather is the thing I hate most.
May was nice temp-wise, but wet. That’s what kept the temps down. Summer sho nuf be here now.

No one, myself included, works outside in the Texas sun if they can possibly help it. It’s why I had to get the car cover repaired. It’ll stay this hot through the first of November. I just want the humidity to ease.

Been working outside most of today. Little limp but I have enough go to go for a steak dinner with hubby after we wash the truck. Because you know when you wash the truck the rain will come. Everything is a jungle right now but at least it is looking like an organized jungle at the moment.

Have ya taken a gander at your family tree and their origins.

It is possible they ain't from Texas, or the south and their
genetic makeup might have stifled their explorative curiosity
particularly towards the south.

You may not physiologically "belong" in Texas.

I believe you mention Minnesota a time or two,
how was things there ... from a physiological perspective?

I know, snow 'n ice "n Somalis 'n such.

Unless you can find a self propelled iron lung with environmental
controls, mechanical arms and a state of the art cerebral interface
you got some considerable sufferin to endure in the very near future.

In the meantime get a hand towel, wet it and drape it around your neck.
Get another and wear it like a doorag and drink lotsa water, cool water, not refrigerated.

ETA: and fans, moving air will make a yuge difference.

Crockpot is not to bad for extra heat, not like you had a gas oven on baking bread.
You could always run it outside. Probably would not even have to plug it in. Lol.

This too shall pass.
Our high here (Kentucky) was 92 F today; right now in the house it's 87 with 64% humidity. It's bearable for sitting at the computer. Helps to have the ceiling fan going, though. I can stand just about anything as long as I have a fan blowing on me.

In weather like this, I only cook for breakfast (if we eat breakfast -- I'm doing intermittent fasting, so we usually start the day with lunch). Our meals are more likely to be a cold salad (with meat and/or cheese), or cold soup, or sandwiches if we have gf bread in the house. If I needed to cook, I'd use the microwave if at all possible. There are thousands of different salad recipes, by the way, so it doesn't have to just be boring iceberg lettuce.

Our eating habits change for the seasons, too. During this type of heat, we eat mostly sandwiches and salads of all kinds. I don't do much cooking during the summer. If I do, it's outdoors on the grill. Cary fires up the grill, and I run out to put everything on, and come back in. I keep a check on it, back and forth. Thing is, with all the rain we're getting, I haven't been doing any grilling. So, it's been sandwiches and salads. Ice cream for dessert is nice!

Neighbor gave me a disgusted look the other day. I was out mowing wearing my coveralls in when it was 105*. Not even sweating.
That's me. Was on a roof most of the day hanging siding ( porch roof ) . It was 87 and feel temp was 92. I hardly sweat at all. My Italian wife sweats like a you know what. Really ticks her off. :chg:

Currently 98°. Weather guy said that it’ll only get “down” to 85 by 11 pm.

I will say this: this past winter was a great “recharger” for my psyche. I always need a cold winter to prep mentally for summer. We sure had a nice cold spell.

Don't you have a hurricane or TS headed your way?

91 a couple hours west of you, with a decent breeze. Not even damp clothing. Feels good.

Of course, the 'decent breeze' is from a fan. Outside, it's 95 and calm. But very dry. Find shade and it's actually pleasant.

This isn't even a thing yet. Beats boogers out of the coast. Grew up there, it's also 95....but that's the humidity AND temperature.
