Donald Trump appeared to subtly soften his tone on his proposed ban on foreign Muslims entering the United States Wednesday, in apparent response to criticism from the newly elected Muslim mayor of London.

The planned ban, Trump said on Fox News Radio’s “Kilmeade and Friends,” is only “temporary.”

“It hasn’t been called for yet. Nobody’s done it,” the presumptive Republican nominee said.

“This is just a suggestion until we find out what’s going on.”

Trump stood by his proposal, which has been criticized as potentially unconstitutional, as he has repeatedly since emerging as the presumptive GOP nominee last week.

Yet the slight softening could suggest a change in rhetoric following protracted criticism from Sadiq Khan, the new London mayor. Khan, who is Muslim, has launched perhaps the most direct attacks on Trump’s policies in recent days.

“My message to Donald Trump and his team is that your views of Islam are ignorant,” Khan said in an interview with CNN that aired on Wednesday. "It is possible to be a Muslim and live in the West. It is possible to be a Muslim and love America.”

“I assume he denies that there’s Islamic terrorism,” Trump responded on Wednesday. “I mean, if you look at this Islamic radical terrorism all over the world right now, it’s a disaster what’s going on. I assume he is denying that.”

Trump has previously offered caveats to his proposal, and suggested that diplomats, foreign leaders and other prominent Muslims could be allowed into the country despite the overarching prohibition.

Suggesting a temporary ban on immigration is not a bad idea, we really should know who the hell these people are and what their intentions are. Btw no one said how long the temporary band has to be, say a good 20 years ought to do it.

Trump did not soften his stance one bit. The MSM is trying to dissuade Americans from supporting Trump using the method of making it seem as though Trump is changing his positions. He hasn't changed one bit. This is not the only headline that is a lie, plenty more lately. Just the last couple of days there was a spate of articles about how Trump "changed" on taxes and wants to raise them for the "rich". I posted the transcript of the exchange in an interview with IIRC Chuck Todd and that was not what Trump said at all. Anyone who trusts what any media says about Trump, is fooling themselves. Trump speaks for himself clearly; you have to listen to the interviews or read the transcripts.

It's interesting that they have changed their tactics from accusing him of racist/bigory/Islamophbia/nazism to "Oh, he's changed his positions".

To hear Donald Trump explain his various proposals on Friday, including a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States—with exceptions, the presumptive Republican nominee made one thing clear: As of right now, they are all just suggestions.

Calling into "Fox & Friends," his final television hit of the morning, Trump was asked by co-host Brian Kilmeade about the response to his comment that his Muslim ban was "just a suggestion."

"Yeah. It was a suggestion. Look, anything I say right now, I'm not the president," Trump said. "Everything is a suggestion, no matter what you say, it's a suggestion."

"I feel strongly we have to do something about when you look at radical Islamic terrorism, we have a president that as you folks know very well, we have a president who won't use the term for the World Trade Center, he won't use the term. And we have to do something. And you're not going to do something about it until you know what the problem is," Trump said.

Trump also said he has spoken with Rudy Giuliani about heading a commission looking at immigration problems in the U.S.

"I have spoken to Rudy Giuliani. We're going to put together a group," he said. "We're going to look at the problem. We're going to study the problem. It's a temporary ban. I feel very strongly that we have to find out what the problem is. When you look at San Bernardino, when you look at Paris, when you look at all of these horrible, horrible acts of hatred, this is pure hatred. We have to find out and get to the bottom of the problem before we can solve it."

I was all hot to ban all Moslem immigration until.....then it occurred. We got 2+ million already in this country. What are the chances that a ban would so incense a few of them that we'd have Mad Bombers coming up like mushrooms (pun there) around the country?

I still think we ought to ban them but be a little discreet about it. Like importing ME Christians until we have taken in 2.5 million or something like that.

I think we can halt immigration, temporarily of course say like for the next twenty years, :groucho: until we have a better vetting process in place.

I like my idea better. Start importing ME Christians. In two gens, they will be fully assimilated. When the Moslems start crying, we look pious and point out that Christians are being slaughtered everywhere so we have to take them first. I think we could run that 20 yrs and maybe not create any local talent Mad Bombers if we handle it right.

Because you said it would make mohammedans mad. Mohammedans are always mad. Acting or speaking in any manner designed to placate them is not only utter failure but actually assisting them. And I don't want 2.4 million middle eastern Christians here either. I'm sure they'd rather stay in their home countries if the mohammedans were soundly defeated and neutered.

If you want to know what Trump means, listen to him DIRECTLY and not (mis/partially/out of context) quoted in articles especially by liberal media ones who hate him. ANYONE who reads any MSM site, especially leftist/liberal/commiepuke ones and thinks that what they read is true, accurate or anything other than rotten stinking propaganda with a few teensy bits of truth in it for disguise (but not useful since they are always partial/out of context etc) , is NOT using your God given intelligence!

I just did that. It was hard because anytime Trump shows up on my tv or any other media, I change the channel or whatever I have to do to remove his face from my vision and his voice from my hearing. The man disgusts me more than I can describe. But in fairness to your challenge, I watched a video of him reading a speech. It was rather sneaky the way he did it.

He was reading from a release put out by his campaign.

It said "Mr Trump calls for a total and complete ban on Muslims entering the United States until our county's representatives can figure out what is going on"

Sounds like something a teenager would say. However, he did say it. I not only read the transcript I watched the video. He did say it.

He has said, everything will be negotiated with the other branches! Sometimes people take that to mean he's not sincere or doesn't mean what he says. But as you said pres is not a dicktator (unless what 0bung acts like). Thinking of how Trump has said he wants a VP who shares his views, who knows how things get accomplished in Congress.
