…… Turnip Recipes Needed Please

Neither here nor there.
I have some beautiful snow white turnips that Orion Commander bought at the farmer's market, with the greens still attached and need some recipe ideas. TIA.

Cut them up in 1 to 2 inch cubes, including the greens, and add dried corn and some persimmons.

Then go out where there is deer, find a point where the woods branch out into a point into a open grassy field. Scrape up the grasses to the raw dirt, or otherwise remove a section of turf about 2x2 feet. Put turnips, corn, persimmons and greens in middle of 2x2 patch.

Repeat daily till you train the deer. Then harvest a big one. Then make stew with said venison and and turnip/greens you have left.

Best of luck!

Thanks. I tried to make some like mashed potatoes and it was a total fail, very chunky and a bitter taste. Not sure what I did wrong.
Interesting. We don't make mashed potatoes here often, so I don't think I did that one. But everything else has worked fine. I occasionally grab them at the store just to have some different flavor.

DH brought one in as big as his two fists. I was sure it would be awful. But I sliced off a hunk and diced it up to put in my vegetable beef soup ( my dear MIL told me that trick years ago. You really don't taste turnip, just adds a special ump to the pot.) Tonight I diced up another hunk and added it to my roasted vegetable sheet pan. It was delicious with a little balsamic vinegar drizzle.

Tomorrow dear brother in law gets the remainder of that big azz turnip! The gift that keeps on giving.

I like to make them into french fries.

I bought some at Reasors a few weeks ago to put in with my roast, and they turned bitter. The raw chunks tasted like radish and not turnip. They were purple top globe variety. Maybe it was the extreme heat and drought this year.

I did a stand alone thread for this, so it would be easier to search.

That’s what I do with turnips, I just pop em in the air fryer.

About 10-15 minutes. I give ‘em a shake every 5 minutes or so to test how they’re crisping up.

Just toss in oil/seasonings, cook at 400.
