This is probably the last place to post this but it is , IMHO, great!

Yesterday we had..."A New England Boiled Dinnah!"

Today the leftovers reincarnated in a "Red Flannel Hash!"

The dinnah began as;

Boiled Ham, boiled carrots as thick as your wrist. Boiled potatoes, boiled rutabagas, milder then the Turnip and with more veggie. Boiled onions, and a a boiled cabbage. Boiled sweet beets.


Now


tonight we had "Red Flannel Hash." To prepare this you need to place what is left of the Dinnah into a black Iron frying pan. Heat slowly over a moderate flame until the hash is quite hot.

Serve Hot, S&P Use a black corn pepper shaker & Sea salt. Apple cider vinegar brings out the taste.

If you have nevah had this your in for a swell dinnah.

Now this is Food Poetry. What can I say?

Wicked flashback.. I grew up the family farm where great grandmother fixed boiled dinnah saturday... leading to red flannel hash for evening meal sunday. That is poetry when it produced such an image. Thanks for the trip LW.

The possibilities dazzle me!

We can zip up to Wise Owl's for Moose Stew with biscuits, I hear tell she got a big bull the other day! then over to Col holmon's for whatever, perhaps a Haddock suppah, then back to our place for, now get this!

Cake and or pie and coffee after. Mince, Pumpkin, Apple. With the Apple you can have vanilla ice cream or a larger chunk of very strong cheddah cheese.

Name the cake dur jur and have all you want.

Funny how smells, certain foods, will trigger a snap of a memory!

Thats the reaction I was hoping for.

Blue berry pie, for example reminds me of when I was a wee lad. I'd go berrying with my aunt. We'd pick wield strawberry's and blue berry's in a sloping meadow a few thousand yards from home.

She was a truly great baker, she could fix just about anything to do with baking.

When I think of her, It makes me think of the huge old Queen Atlantic, she had converted from wood to kero. And then that leads to some other memories.

NOW here we go!!

Old fashioned New England Clam Bake!!!

If you have nevah been theah you have a treat acumin!!

Picture THIS!

10 X 10 ft baking pit, actually an elevated cooking pad. Layer it with sea weed. place a hundred or so live lobstahs on the pad. Place a thick layer of sea weed over that. Next place 3-4 bushel of fresh clams over that. Comes now another layer of sea weed. Then 3-4 bushel of fresh ears of corn. Husk ON!

Next a really thick layer of sea weed.

Now you begin to see what an old fashioned clam bake is all about!

About a foot and a half space of room between the ground and the bottom of the cooking pad.

Lots of fire wood.

Start fire. keep it going with additional pieces of fire wood being added. Keep a good fire all round the bottom of the pad. let burn down to hot coals, but keep adding wood.

2-3 hours later you got yourself one huluva clam bake!!

It's been known that a beer or three has been poured over the bake to keep it moist. This is really a must!

Good idea to have a keg or two standing by for this purpose. A sip or two is acceptable.

Several containers of hard butter on top to melt for later!

Side dishes to suit.
