'We are God's partners in matters of life and death'
A reader points out that President Obama's call with the rabbis today — as recorded in Rabbi Jack Moline's and other clerics' Twitter feeds — freights health care reform with a great deal of religious meaning, and veers into the blend of policy and faith that outraged liberals in the last administration.
"We are God's partners in matters of life and death," Obama said, according to Moline (paging Sarah Palin...), quoting from the Rosh Hashanah prayer that says that in the holiday period, it is decided "who shall live and who shall die."
The president ended the call by wishing the rabbis "shanah tovah," or happy new year — in reference to the High Holidays a month from now.

I was under the impression that we were, in fact, the adversaries of fate, doing all in our power to fight death and disease.

Doctors in fact seem to now consider death no longer a natural result of being alive, but an enemy to be faught with every weapon available,

When I read that line, I immediately had a 'vision' of St. Michael loudly saying, "Who is like unto God?!!! to the 'prince of darkness' who once considered himself the 'prince of light'.

In fact come to think of it, if this 'partner' who stated this was a 'Biblical Borg', why we'd have to call him 3 of 10.

Considering the 3rd Commandment says, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain". And there being 10 Commandments, yep, I'd say his new name would be 3 of 10. V

Actually what he said does make sense...perhaps he did read the "gift" Pope Benedict gave him...

I do believe when the gift of life happens in the womb of a woman, the woman becomes like a partner in that she then does her job of nurturing that life to bring it to fruition. Having done it twice, I know the miracle of carrying a life inside my body, and interacting with it, and loving it, and "knowing" it before it arrives here "in person". It is truly a miracle and a blessing. It is between God and the mother. And it is, indeed, a partnership - a blessed participation.

I don't see Obama as a partner with anyone no less God. He thinks he IS God or more likely the opposite! (Who wonders who he listened to by allowing live babies lucky enough to survive an abortion to DIE?? :dvl1:)

No, "life" doesn't matter to him but I think "death" might.

Exactly Sligo! Bottom line is the mother (or person in charge of the life support, medical reigns, etc.) could reject God's intent and take a life instead.

It is actually a very meaningful statement he made, I just hope it shows he is pondering those issues in a new light. We will see if his actions follow his words. People can change, and the only one who knows the true intent of Obama is God and Obama himself.

That's interesting. I mean I KNEW at least from a Catholic perspective in respect to liberal, radical agendas the subterfuge can be carried off. In other words, just because one sees a clerical collar doesn't mean that Catholic "priest" is really in communion with the Catholic Church. But for some reason I thought the Jews were unable to get away with that.

Making a woman a rabbi is more in the face and skips even the pretense of subterfuge!

So, these are the "religious" icons Obama it aiming to convince and please? Oh well. What else can we expect from a president who attended a church of "Christian" hate for 20 years.

There have been female Reform Rabbi's for at least 20 years. Not so in the Conservative or Orthodox branches of the religion (at least not to my knowledge).

Partners, huh?

I'd like to think God would be more selective when choosing a partner, not that He needs one.

I know I would be more selective, in fact I was back in November. Lot of good it did me, and the country.
