PET scan for me tomorrow...would appreciate prayers for that and Tuesday for SIL who I'll be taking to the hospital to have cardiac stents placed. Not sure about the rest of the week. Since I'll be playing catch up at work, it will probably be a hot mess.

We have our home fellowship/Bible study this morning, and I'm making the house all tidy for that. This afternoon, we'll put covers over the tomato and pepper plants, since it's going to be chilly tonight. No frost, but with a cold wind blowing, I'd feel better if they were covered. Low of 42 degrees.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping day. Nothing special on my list. Continuing to replace what I use every two weeks and any sales that I can use.

Wednesday, I have a doctor's appointment to find out what is going to happen now that I've got peripheral artery disease and why my BP is staying so high even with medication. This diagnosis has opened up a whole new can of worms.

Continuing prayers for you, moldy.

Praying for you too Sherree.

I didn't weigh this morning. I didn't exactly eat off my new food plan, but I only ate one and 1/2 meals yesterday. All of a sudden it was 3:00 pm and I'd eaten nothing. Although I had had coffee with the Great lakes collegen and DE in it. I don't count them as food and they don't effect my appetite one way or another.

I didn't want anymore of the chicken we baked on Tuesday so I had ground venison and pork, I think it is mostly pork, along with carrots, kale and broccoli, seasoned with spike and coconut aminos with a little olive oil and then a slice of ezekiel toast with avaccado on it. Much more satisfying than the chicken.

I need to get my dehydrator going again, some of these frozen veggies I'm eating are getting expensive. Like kale, a big bag is cheaper than a couple of bags of frozen, which the store doesn't always have.

I had a nice ham steak that I pan fried for DH along with the remainder of the mac n cheese I had prepared earlier in the week. He said the ham was salty. He's got another half of that ham steak to eat.

Not sure what we will do for lunch after church, we often do road kill, but there is just about nothing there that I would eat. Maybe we could get DH a plate to go and I'll eat something that I cook at home.

Prayers offered for good results from the scan; and for SIL's stent procedure, Moldy. Prayers offered for an answer to your BP issue, SB.

Okay, I'm caffeinated, indoor and outdoor cats have been fed, I found some breakfast, four phone calls taken care of, paperwork found related to the phone calls, and Hubby made it in to work okay - I guess that means the day is off to a good start!

Yesterday was the memorial service for my next to oldest cousin, so I was away most of the day. Cousin was a strong family man, a hard workers, and a Vietnam Veteran. Small towns, you have to love them - it took Veterans from 3 small town VFW posts to have enough for the Honor Guard, but they made sure there was one. They seemed a little surprised to be invited to the dinner, and were escorted to the buffet line first. I have to wonder about the kind of people who wouldn't show them their due respect.

I got home last evening to Hubby being all upset over the bill for our insurance coverage through my work - it's not something that he's ever had to deal with since it always came out of my check. We have a meeting this week with HR - if I am allowed to do so, I will probably return to work - though not in my previous position (no way would I ever put myself through that again!), so maybe he can leave off worrying about it for at least a little while.

I need to run over to the Evil Empire to pick up a few things - should have gotten them on the way home yesterday, but wasn't really thinking about anything but getting home, so took the mostly country route instead of going through any towns with anything more than a Dollar General. While I'm there, I'm going to pick up a small can of red spray paint - I read somewhere on here that if you paint rocks the size of strawberries red and put them in your strawberry bed, the birds will peck at them and find out they aren't good, and thus will leave them - and the actual strawberries - alone. I've got lots of blooms on my strawberry plants, so I reckon it's worth a shot - and easier than taking netting off and putting it back on  Might just get a big can of red paint instead of a small one and paint my little red trailer too!!

Well darn - it looks like the rain that was threatening has passed over, so I don't have an excuse to lollygag here on the computer any longer, so I'd better get ready and head to town.

Take care all - wishing you all a safe and happy week!

Finding meals in jars recipes is my current prep challenge.
Daughter wants to make them and package in mylar bags.
Major prep step over neck 2 weeks is mive the retired FREEZE DRYER back into kitchen and get it to work
There are a couple of FB groups with good recipes for that.

PET scan for me tomorrow...would appreciate prayers for that and Tuesday for SIL who I'll be taking to the hospital to have cardiac stents placed. Not sure about the rest of the week. Since I'll be playing catch up at work, it will probably be a hot mess.
Prayers for you both, for good things.
Wednesday, I have a doctor's appointment to find out what is going to happen now that I've got peripheral artery disease and why my BP is staying so high even with medication. This diagnosis has opened up a whole new can of worms.
I'll keep fingers crossed for good things. And prayers up.

Finished lawn today. Planning to work early tomorrow just to make sure that anything boss needs is handled and done before noon her time. I should be done by noon.

Lawn finished. More laundry going. Friend came by and we found out that I need to order replacement parts for the pool. Piecing that order together.

Looks like I have a kidney infection again. Argh. Doc appt Tuesday morning anyways so just holding on.

Brother came by to replace concrete anchors. The new ones he brought didn't hold in place. Just started spinning. I went looking for lag bolt shields again. That's what I used for the clothes line. Worked perfect for that.

Well last year, when I was looking, everyone told me that what I was looking for didn't exist. No one could find them in the size I was looking for. Despite the fact that I had two of them in the wall of my garage. Lo and behold, look again today and they are available in stores again. I'll be grabbing a pack after the doc appt on Tuesday.

I found leg massager sleeves. OMG! They are just pressure and release but they have helped a lot already. Not just unlocking the calf muscles but also helping to restore correct feeling to my toes. That was unexpected. I honestly have been thinking that was permanent nerve damage.

As long as work doesn't explode while boss is gone, I'll have a calm week. I'm really praying for a calm week.

Plans to continue getting the new compost piles set up. And getting the winter deep mulch pulled off the planting beds. And get plants in the ground. I have a new order of plants coming in. That leaves just tomatoes. I may just buy plants.

Son's cot at friend's house was having problems. The seams and stretched. I got lucky on Marketplace and found two new ones for less than one from the store. Sent those to friend's house, with yoga mats to serve as padding.

Friend laughed. He asked me what to do with the old one. He knows me. He was surprised when I told him to put it curbside. I honestly considered having him bring me the frame. But I also know it's not a project that I'd get to any time soon. With one in the van's cargo spot, and two at friend's, I can let this go.

The sun finally popped out from behind the clouds a bit ago, but it's still very windy and chilly. The gardens are still way too wet to till, but hopefully the wind forecast for this week will dry the soil out some. I don't even have any cold crops in the ground or raised beds as yet as the weather hasn't been cooperative. I asked Hubby to give the tiller a once over so that when the magic minute hits (between ground almost dry and rain starting in ) I can hurry out and get the ground prepped for planting. It looks like I'm going to have to grit my teeth and pick up some lumber as a few of my raised bed frames need replaced.

I am amazed at the rate that grocery prices are going up - my last two grocery runs have totaled over $100, and I didn't buy that much. I guess I'm going to have to stop buying anything prepared - like the lemon muffins I treat myself with. Fresh fruit is going to be off the list unless I grow it myself, with the exception of bananas. Luckily, my strawberries in the tiered bed next to the porch are doing well - there are a few bare spots that I'll coax the runners in to after the picking season is done.

Well, I keep getting up from the computer to do other things, and it's almost time to head for the pool, so I reckon I'd better post this and get ready to go.

Take care all; stay safe out there!!

We've had a change of plans. We're getting ready to leave for small town to do my grocery shopping. Food Giant, TSC, and wine shop. After coming back home, and getting everything put away, we're going on to big town to pay for our new vehicle to get that out of the way. Then, we can relax, until it arrives. We might be out of socket to be able to get there when it arrives, and we don't want to take a chance that they will sell it to someone else, before we can get there. Our name is already on the vehicle, but we still don't want to take any chances. It would be better if money has already changed hands, and it's listed in their computer as "sold". I might do more shopping while in big town, too.

It will probably be very later when we get back home, so I might not be on the forum til tomorrow.

PET scan done and getting some Panera for the last time. It's just way too expensive. Will head back home, about an hour, and run errands. I may work from home today if I get a wild hair, or just work on things at home.

The sun is shinning and it looks like a glorious day. Got the call this morning to confirm the install of the a/c unit in the morning. Bye Bye savings account or most of it anyway. Although its a blessing to have the funds to pay cash for it.

I've just about gotten my grocery list done, I'm adding some more frozen vegetables, but no meat. Don't need any meat. But the prices are getting very high. The crappy walmart white bread that use to be 88 cents is now 1.32. I never eat that but DH does. It takes a long time for it to start to mold, but we usually end up tossing part of a loaf out. I'd get a better brand for him but it makes no difference to him.

My ezekiel bread has gone up about 1.00 but its always been pricey. I don't eat it often, and the only one slice at a time. Its a very grainy bread and for most would be an acquired taste, but I did that years ago. Any other bread, for the most part anyway, just sticks to the roof of my mouth.

I don't eat carrots very often, mostly because DH won't eat them. But I ate some the other day in a stir fry and they were quite good, so I'm going to buy more. And more red onions, I love them. They have already gotten expensive so I'm sparing with them.

I was going to get a spaghetti squash but they are almost 8.00, so I deleted it from my list. The avaccado oil mayo is kind of high, but I won't use a lot of it, so I'm leaving that on my list.

My list was getting to almost $100 and that's way too much. I don't really need anything though, just wanted to add more for a better selection for my meals. I bought a bag of apples last shopping and I've yet to eat any. I may slice one up and have part of it with my first meal, which is usually breakfast foods.

Frozen fruit is really expensive, good thing I'm not a smoothie drinker or I'd have to quit drinking it.

It's warmed up quite a bit from this morning when the neighbor lady and I headed to the pool. The wind is blowing at a pretty good clip so should dry out the ground soon. Hubby is standing at the door looking at the windmill and telling me "The wind is out of the north, no - its out of the west. North west. Nope, north again." I told him I didn't care as long as it wasn't coming out of the east as that would bring rain; and that I just wanted it to keep blowing long enough to dry out the ground so I could scrape the winter weeds off the top of the soil and rake them up; then open the ground up a bit

Hubby did go out and check the tiller - gotta get a new battery for it so that will be something on his to-do list for tomorrow; he can pick one up on his way home from work. In the meantime, I have some dead branches to prune out of the elderberries, lemon balm to dig and pot up, weeds to pull, and flowering plants to ID - aka: "Is this a weed or did I plant it on purpose?"

Something about getting the lawn done seems to have broken open the gates. Today I went out and started clearing one of the garden beds. I got all the tree debris that was piled on it moved to the big pile, which will eventually all go in the compost bins. Then I got the cardboard down for the surrounding walk path and pulled the deep mulch off the top of that bed and put it for the walkway. Tomorrow I'll go pull the mostly rotted cardboard off the top, spread some fertilizer, and use the action hoe to "mix" everything up and loosen the soil. I'm just going to keep moving down the row of garden beds, a little each day. I think I'm going to try regular black landscape cloth this year. I can find the stuff that farmers use, although if I can get by one of the coops I may find some. Either way, the soil needs a covering that isn't the cardboard or woodchip that I normally use. Or I'm going to try it that way this year to see if the growth is any better and the soil stays "soft". Instead of hard baked clay that happens with the regular winds around here.

I may just have to suck up the cost of buying the woven polyproplene weed cover online. One 6' x 200' roll would handle all of my current vegetable beds. And that's where I need it. I'd cut to size and then roll it back up each winter when I prep the garden beds for winter. I just don't know when I can get by a coop. There is so much on the to do list and running around to different stores takes up so much time.

Just a stray thought... I wonder if old trampoline mats would work as weed barriers for the garden beds.

kyrsyan

Old carpet works pretty good.
I know. But not really good for vegetable beds. Great for more permanent beds though. I have a couple of old trampoline mats. Not enough to cover all the garden beds, but enough to do 4 or 5. So I'll likely give it a shot after I test heat sealing the edges. Although I may still keep one back to make the hammock idea I have for son.

Happy dance. I have a few tea mixes that I made that help a lot with some health issues. But I haven't been drinking them as much as I should because continually cleaning the tea balls is a pita.

So this weekend I ordered heat seal tea bags. And they work. My Foodsaver can easily seal them. So I can enjoy my teas and not worry about continually cleaning the tea balls. And the bags are compostable, so I can just toss them in the compost pile.

We got everything we wanted to get done today, and we're back home early. I'm glad of it, too, because I'm worn out. We ate, before we left big town, so I don't have to worry about making supper.

It's the first day of May, and it's only 69 for our high, today, with our low tonight 45. The wind was howling, and we both wore jackets while out and about, today. I have our little propane heater going full blast right now. Cary has already cleaned up the wood heater, or I would have it going!

I was so cold today that I built a fire in our insert and wore my husband's robe with a hood. I probably looked like a jedi master, but at least I was warm. I am looking forward to warm, sunny days so I can soak up some sun and heat!

I have fruit trees to plant this week and some herbs I want to get dug in, and we will probably buy the rest of our vegetable plants too. I'm also hoping to finish my fencing projects this week.

I agree with you, ReneeT--food prices are getting outrageous. My daughter does my shopping for me since I can't get around any more, but every week I get less and pay more. I sometimes buy lemon poppyseed muffin mix. It's really good, still around $1 for the mix, makes 6 or 7 muffins and might be a good work around for your prepared muffins. It is only 34 degrees here this morning--still way too cold for planting anything outside. I'm afraid it's going to go straight from cold to hot with nothing in between.

It's supposed to be a bit warmer today at 72 with sunny skies. 44, tonight. Friday thru Tuesday of next week, rain every day, but the temps are supposed to be in the 80's. No tilling the big garden, since it's still too wet from the rain we had. There's really no hurry on that, since Cary's seeds won't be up and large enough to plant for a few weeks. Surely, by then, the rain will have stopped for the summer.

I'm just doing regular household chores today. Nothing special. I think Cary is planning to get back to splitting and stacking firewood. It's too wet to do anything else.

I'm with ya'll on the price increases at the grocery store. Gosh, I bought less, yesterday, but the total cost was way more than I expected. At TSC, even our doggie treats had gone up by $1 a bag. I still had money left from my budget money when it was all said and done, but only $20. That's calling it close. I can't complain too much. I could have come up short. That's still $20 I got to add to our cash emergency fund.

I haven't gone back to paying for groceries in cash yet, I use my debit card and get cash back for stashing. I'm trying to add a couple hundred a month to my cash and if I'd stop buying on amazon I could add more. But it seems like something always comes up.

The a/c fellows are due any minute to install the new a/c. I wish we didn't have to do that right now but we feel like its better to do it now rather than later. Prices are constantly going up.

I'm sure glad that the bulk of stocking up is already done, now its just replacing. DH doesn't quite understand that, but since we each have our own money, I can do what I can do. At least when he has to replace something he is now getting more than one. That's a big change in his thinking.

I ordered some whole wheat flour from amazon and it has gone around the side of the mountain to get here. Probably tomorrow. Its not even a large package, but I don't need much. Even with golo, I don't plan on much baking. If I did I'd have a hard time sticking to portion control. so its best not to tempt myself with having baked products around. DH seems to be taking his time eating his apply pie. He has one slice left and I keep looking at it. I won't eat it though, but it sure is tempting.

I didn't lose anything for a couple of days and yesterday I was up. I mentioned it on one of the fb groups and everyone said I need to eat three meals a day. I've only been eating two, so yesterday I did manage to eat three and today I'm back down, so I guess there is something to that three meals a day.

I know everyone does it differently, but using cash helps me stick to my budget. When the cash runs out, I'm done. If I just used our debit card, there is no telling how much I would spend, knowing that it's covered at the bank. I'm sure there is coming a time, though, that cash will be forbidden, and I'll have no choice, but to use my debit card. Until then, I like using cash for everything.

I'm doing okay using my debit card, however, it would be a bit different if I was using my credit card, I'd probably go over board. I've gotten really good at sticking to my list. And I'm likely to start using pick up more often due to having a hard time staying on my feet when I go in the store. I've tried their carts and I just can't seem to keep from running into things. I'm not spending very much, comparatively speaking, at the grocery store any way.

Four plus years after the start, several health issues later, we finally have an answer for the infection that has been causing so many problems. Doc ordered tests to be done a week before the appt. The tests showed kidney problems. But nothing else.

But I had the pain of a kidney infection. And I had a smallish (just larger than hand spread) size of that original infection that had reappeared.

Doc tested for kidney infection. Nada. Slightly elevated proteins. But the bloodwork and the skin infection revealed it. I have systemic staph. And there is a good possibility that my son has it as well and we've been passing it back and forth.

4+ years. All the health issues that have popped up can be linked to having systemic staph, including the very severe anemia.

Three prescriptions filled to start the treatment. And fingers crossed that the treatment works and I don't have to go for longer treatment. I'm on a rollercoaster of joy that we finally know and are treating it and anger that it took so bloody long to find out what it was. I'm focusing on the joy and the hope that we can wipe it out with a good course of treatment. Apparently all the healthy changes in our lives is quite probably why the flares have been decreasing. The meds will hopefully wipe it out for good.

And the pool parts for son arrived today. And I was able to do a dash into Home Depot for the lag shields to serve as concrete anchors for the sun shield. And I found small hibiscus plants. They are annuals here but I can grow them to harvest from.

And now for lunch, and work.

I love hibiscus plants, but they don't grow well here.

After Katrina ex and I lived in an RV in the driveway of oldest son's flood damaged house. At the front door were two beautiful hibiscus plants, they either survived the katrina flood or grew back, they were huge.
I love the plants but don't tend to plant pretties. But hibiscus can be dried and used for a healthy tea. Here, normally, hibiscus is way too expensive for a plant that only lasts a year. But HD had smaller pots with them for $5 each. So I grabbed two. They'll get transplanted to larger pots and put in a sunny spot with me harvesting a bit at a time until fall. Then I'll bring them in and try to keep them alive. But I'm not so good at that.

Hibiscus grows wild here in Mississippi. Mostly where there is damp soil. River and creek banks and around lakes and ponds. I've known people here who would dig those up in the wild and transplant into their yards. They seem to do very well. Wild azaleas are the same way, here.

Gather some of those leaves and make a tea, helps to lower blood pressure.

DH planted yellow squash, zucchini and okra seeds in the ground today. He usually puts the seeds directly in the ground. We've had little luck sprouting seeds.

I've managed two meals today. First one at 10:30, I had sauteed broccoli and tomatoes with eggs scrambled in the veggies in a little coconut oil and sliced apple. The apple was just about tasteless. For my second meal I had cottage cheese, with a 1/2 of no sugar added mandarin oranges and chopped up tomatoes. And it was very tasty. I messed up on my carb and forgot the oranges were a carb and I had a very small amount of avaccado, but come to think of it the avaccado is a fat.

When the freezer door was open there were two nice packages of frozen shrimp, that were not longer frozen or even cold so i had to toss them. I think I have some more shrimp somewhere else. If I can find the shrimp I'm going to have shrimp and grits, although the grits will be riced cauliflower.

Stopped by Publix yesterday to buy some ground round at $3.99/lb and some enchilada sauce that was BOGO. They had my vitamins on clearance at half price (best by date of 4/24) and my favorite toilet paper on sale, so my quick trip turned into a $55 shopping trip, but I saved quite a bit.

My shrimp fried rice with riced cauliflower was pretty good, I could have added more shrimp, and I did throw in come broccoli. My carb was mandarin oranges, a nice thing the have at the end of a meal.

DH had spiral ham and baked beans seasoned with molassis.

Today was only the second time in two weeks that I've eaten three meals and I'm full as a tick.

Have you ever thought about making baked apples for yourself??

I personally think they taste BETTER than apple pie!! You can even use artificial sweeteners if you want.

They are DELICIOUS!!

I have another doctor's appointment this afternoon. I might do a bit of shopping while in big town, too. That will depend on how I feel after the doctor visit. I sure hope it's all good news, instead of the dread I'm feeling about the Peripheral Artery Disease and my BP. I checked it earlier this morning and it was 138/93.

In spite of the cold wind that's been blowing, our gardens are holding up well. Tomato and peppers already have little blooms trying to put on. Squash and cuke seeds haven't broken the ground, yet. They really need more heat. Cary's seeds haven't sprouted yet, either, in his mini greenhouse. The low last night was 44. High of 73, today, then in the 80's for the next few days, with rain.
