Happy Resurrection Day and Blessings to All.

Our Savior has risen, and it's a beautiful, wonderful, and glorious day! Sun is shining, birds are singing, and no rain! Temps back in the 70's, today.

We all had a great time last night eating together. I guess I blew my diet, so am back on it this morning. I've only got 10lbs to lose, so it won't be too hard to do.

Cooked out all the ground beef this morning, getting ready to have a big canning day tomorrow. I plan to make Cary a chocolate cake today, too.

Sandwiches for our supper, tonight. Jewish rye, ham, and Swiss. Cary has chips to eat with his.

Indeed, he is Risen!

Good Morning, All! It looks like it is going to be a pretty day here - I foresee mushroom hunters out in the woods today. A couple of the neighbors have found small grey ones, but not many.

I was glad to see no frost on the vehicles or grass this morning, so checked the weather - which I (sadly  )do several times a day. It's 36*f right now, and temps are forecast to gradually rise through this week - none below 40*f, and up to 77*f; and wonder of wonders - no rain in the forecast until next Saturday!! We had some wind yesterday, but just enough to blow a few lightweight things around. The windmill is at a standstill this morning; looking at the vane, it appears the last bit of wind that came through was coming out of the south west. I do need to pick up a new barometer as mine bit the dust - and this isn't the time of year when I want to be without one. They just don't make things the way they used to; that barometer was only about 40 years old.

When I walked over to the porch door to look at the thermometer and windmill, I saw a flock of wild turkeys walk across the road and down toward our west field - the big old Tom stopped and fanned his tail feathers out when I opened the door to watch them, but I don't know if he was sending out a warning or just showing off  The wildlife food plots the cousins plant each year are looking pretty picked over - that means I'll have to monitor my bird feeders or the dang things will be up in the yard, eating me out of house and home.

Hubby is working today, so he will get a free Easter Dinner at work; I've been invited to join the neighbor lady and her Mama at the Chinese buffet for lunch; then I plan to take another walk with the Grand-dog this afternoon. We walked all around the east side of the farm yesterday and my hips were telling me ALL about it when I went to bed last night - I wimped out and had to get up and find the bottle of Ibuprofen.

Speaking of Ibuprofen - you all stocked up on OTC meds for aches and pains? Gardening and Lawn mowing season are at hand here, so I foresee needing to hit the med safe on a daily basis until my body gets used to doing yard and garden work again. I have a good supply of Ibuprofen, but picked up a 100 ct bottle of 81 mg Aspirin at Dollar General yesterday to replace the one I just emptied in to my med box. I use those ones daily, but could triple the dose if needed for pain. I do buy the coated ones as they seem to store better - the uncoated ones tend to absorb moisture. I also noted that Hubby opened a new tube of generic Voltaren cream (diclofenac) from the med safe - since I may be helping myself to some of that, I'd better pick up a new one when I pick up the new barometer.

I found a nest of pretty little dark colored and tuxedo kittens in the machine shed last evening - gonna have to get ahold of Mr. Big (the one I had to wash the diesel fuel off of) and get him neutered as I did not sign up to be a Crazy Cat Lady!! I can't catch the two Mama kitties - one is pretty much feral except she eats the cat food I put out for her and sleeps in the shed; the other will come to the door and look in, and will occasionally let me pet her but trying to pick her up is a no-go - unless of course you LIKE blood letting...

Hubby did a little trash picking at work the other day - they were throwing a bunch of brand new, - wrappers and stickers still on them - stainless steel pans and bowls in to the recycling bin, but allowed the housekeeping crew to take home what they wanted. So I now have a half dozen very nice assorted size bowls plus several bread pans. I had asked him to bring home some cardboard (boxes to open up and put down before I put down mulch) but really appreciated him bringing home the pans.

And speaking of Poor Hubby.... He is off work tomorrow and has plans to get the way overgrown yard mowed, but I also have a list for him - First, I need my V blade hoe sharpened so I can get that nasty creeping stuff out of my flower beds - if he does it first, then I can work in the flower beds until the yard dries up. I guess I could use a file on the hoe, but the grinder is on the high workbench and is way too close to face level for me to be comfortable using it even though I have eye protection. Hubby is a foot taller than I am, so it doesn't bother him. Then I need him to check out the ancient Kaw Mule as I couldn't get it to start yesterday when I wanted to go pick up sticks in the yard. I tried just making up piles of the sticks here and there, but the grand-dog thought I was playing a game with him, so that didn't work at all

Well, I've blathered on enough for one morning, don't you think? I'd better get around and get some chores done around here before before the neighbor lady comes to pick me up.

Take care all; stay safe out there!

DH loves those mushrooms ya'll will be picking, he's from Illinois, around your neck of the woods ReneeT, he's from Ramsey. Nothing like that in my neck of the woods though.

The rain has decided to go away for awhile. The sun actually come out some yesterday.

Dh goes to bed fairly early, but often times gets up later for a snack. He had his pie for his snack, he was pleasantly surprised. I had a slice but the remainder of it is his.

My large limas are nice and done, I probably should have gone with the one pound package, some of these will have to go in the freezer for another day, my large crock pot is very full. So beans today and beans tomorrow. Beans beans the magical fruit. . . .

I set my alarm last night, I wanted to make sure I had time to do something with my hair. Its difficult because I have so much pain and discomfort in my right arm, its not new, but dislocating my right shoulder last year probably did not help.

Church today and eating at home, although the Chinese place we often go to on Sunday is probably open. The rarely close. We do have a choice, its up to dear husband.

Speaking of dear husband I know some of ya'll probably get sick of me talking about him so much but the thing is I'm so blessed to have him in my life. He is just about opposite of my ex who was and is a slug. Ex told me when we were evacuating for a hurricane in 04 that I just needed to come to terms with "that you will have to do everything". And thank God at some point I had the opportunity to get away from him. I'm so blessed. Thank you Jesus. The really sad thing about my ex is that is has the knowledge and ability to do many of the things that DH does, but he refused.

Happy Easter, he is risen.

Happy Resurrection Day!

I plan to get some of our garden in this week, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, kale, spinach, lettuce, potatoes, and more onions. I'm so excited! I find gardening very therapeutic, and I think the garden a great place to pray!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and productive week!

BLESSED RESURRECTION!............No plans today...it's mostly sunny and mid 60's......and dry.

My eldest son took me to lunch Friday......the place was hopping, and very LOUD. I felt assaulted by all the din...past three+ years have been mostly quiet and isolated by caregiving. I'm not comfortable with any crowd or noisy stuff.

I know what you mean by not being comfortable with crowds and noise. We live a very quiet and isolated country live. We just want to be left alone in peace. When we go out in a crowd or loud noise, my senses feel violated. We avoid both as much as possible.

Last evening, when we all went out to eat together, we met at 4pm at the restaurant, way before the crowd got there. It was nice and quiet without all the noise.

Happy Easter everybody!

And it is a blessed Easter in the Barry household...

My wife (that wonderful, sneaky little lady) got on her iPad and ordered me a package of 12 Gold Brick Easter eggs, and another package of 12 Heavenly Hash Easter eggs off of Amazon. They are an exclusive from Elmers Candy Company, and you cannot buy Elmers easter eggs anywhere except the greater New Orleans area. And now, apparently, Amazon.

Nothing is better than an Easter basket full of Heavenly Hash and Gold Brick eggs!

Elmers easter eggs (Gold Bricks, Heavenly Hash, and the pecan eggs that my wife knows I don’t like) are a New Orleans tradition.

Nomifyle knows about that.

But I was - much to my surprise - able to give my wife the Easter gift that I was hoping to present her with, too. On time. On Easter Sunday.

We have actually managed to go for about 60 hours now without rain, so it was time to give the strawberry patch a light watering. (The rest of the crops do not need watering yet, with all the storms coming through, but with their shallow roots and thick canopy of green leaves, the strawberry patch did.)

Anyway, while watering the strawberries - to my surprise - I saw a big, juicy, red ripened strawberry partially tucked away under the green foliage.

Now, I have been seeing strawberru flowers for a couple of weeks now, but no fruit formation.

Until now.

Turns out, there were four completely ripened fruits hidden under the green, leafy canopy.

My wife loves fresh strawberries.

I was able to surprise her with the four strawberries, fresh out of the garden, served with a couple of scoops of Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream.

Several black copper marans I hatched back in the autumn are almost completely grown now, and the first one of them laid a chocolate brown colored egg - the signature color of black copper maran eggs - Friday afternoon. They are just hitting five months old, so I did not expect any eggs from them at all for another two weeks.

But I guess she wanted her first egg to be an Easter egg...

Meantime, my newest hatchlings are now a month old. I moved them out of the house, and into a special, protective custody unit, that we refer to as the Juvenile Detention Center (“Juvie”).

They are chickens, so it is time for them to begin to live with other chickens, and not in my house. But they are still too small to be allowed to mingle among the adult hens (the adult hens will bully them and even attack them when they are that small). So they will live in their own, protective housing unit - the Juvie unit - for the next 8 to 10 weeks - until they are close to being grown up.

Anyway, I hope you all are doing well. My prayers are with SB, Moldy, Krystan, Nomifyle, and all you others who need them.

Yes, Barry, I do know about those eggs. Although I don't think I've ever eaten any because I'm not a fan of easter candy. Don't know why, but I use to consider a snickers a delicacy, although at the current prices I rarely eat one any more. Enjoy your treat and so happy for your Easter present for your DW.

Still have all you folks in my prayers.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Sounds like everyone had a nice Easter!! GLAD to hear that!!!

Well, I have continued to be very lazy due to significant pain. I have determined that the majority of my pain is due to the DANG Flexsteel couch I sleep on!! They are made to last......but NOT for comfort!! I have had it folded out into a bed, with a futon mattress on top of that. It is IMPOSSIBLE!! There are steel bars everywhere you have bones .....at the shoulders and hips, and length wise on both sides in order to impinge on your back!! I have been sleeping on it for about two years and finally, yesterday, when I woke up and could barely move my hips or legs.......I have had ENOUGH!!!

OUT IT GOES THIS WEEK!! I have a perfectly good twin mattress and box springs up at the big house......it will be migrating to the RV THIS WEEK!! The issue will be getting this POS couch OUT THE DOOR ......but it is GOING!!

Maybe with a reasonably comfortable bed to sleep on, I won't feel like I have been beaten up every morning!!! WHY I have tolerated it this long, I can NOT understand!!

Much to do today.....my barter friends are trading me make rabbits for does, and a rooster for my hens!! I also want to get the garden at least partially hoed to get things able to be planted!!! Got strawberries to plant, as well as "regular garden plants."

I have also cut back on my coffee consumption. I was drinking a full pot of "supposedly" 12 cups a day, now down to 5 cups......I realize that is probably still too much, but at least I am working on it. I do LOVE MY COFFEE!!!! Just old fashioned FOLGERS, but boy, do I LOVE IT!!

Well, time to get started today!! I'm off to feed and water everybody and move some chickens down to the hen house from the Quonset hut. Also NEED to move the rabbits somewhere, as they are not in a good place at the moment.
LATER!!

I got up canning this morning, and Cary is splitting firewood. It's going to be a beautiful day again, today! No rain and 72 wonderful degrees! The canner is going now. I'm also doing some baking, today. When everything is finished, I'll wash and clean up the kitchen.

With all the rain, everything is so lush and green outside. The sunshine will dry things quickly, I hope. If I don't have any problems with my dental surgery, Wednesday, we'll be able to till the garden and raised beds for planting by the weekend. On Good Friday til the 1st of May is our ideal time for planting here. We plan to have lots tomatoes, bell and banana peppers, cukes, squash, and lots of green beans. If we have room in the small garden, I might plant something else to fill up the space. I'm already cutting chives, but I haven't transplanted any of them, yet. It's been too wet. Soon, the walking onions will start producing little babies that I can cut and transplant. I hope to be able to can tomatoes, green beans, and squash, plus putting up more bell peppers in the freezer and making a few jars of pickled banana peppers for Cary. I don't make pickles, but we love cucumber and onion salads fresh from the garden.

Anyway, I've got to get back in the kitchen, so that's about it for now.

Ioujc, you've probably tolerated it because you didn't have the energy to mentally process the problem. Btdt. Hope you feel better quickly.

Son went on antibiotics yesterday. Despite continual treatment, the wound on his nose was getting infected and causing swelling around his eyes and nose. That's too dangerous an area to have a deeper infection set in. So he's on Bactrim. The effects kicked in really quickly and he's stopped picking at it.

Son got his first easter bunny ever yesterday. (food allergies). I just laughed when the first thing he did was bite off the ears.

Van got its tuneup. The points were almost gone on the spark plugs so it was definitely time. I need to take pictures of them and ask questions because they were much cleaner than I expected. But then this van uses boots, not wires. Either way, spark plugs and boots changed. Oil change done. I'll get a new filter when the parts store has them back in stock. It started right up and was humming beautifully. And I learned how to do the spark plugs myself if needed. (Two of them are in a spot that is a pita to reach.)

Roller ball bottles arrived. Son is still figuring out which is which, but he is paying attention and noting which ones I use for what.

I wiped out Saturday. I don't know why but even with caffeine, I was barely moving. I did get some cleaning done. Fortunately, Sunday was much more productive. We did get the pool area cleared and started putting in sand. I'm going to need about 10 more bags. And I've been trying to figure out a sturdy tarp to go under that won't break the bank and will survive sunlight. I think my final solution is going to be getting one of the pool covers and using that as the ground tarp. It's round, already the right size, and a bit heavier than tarps.

I made Shepherd's pie this weekend with pork and lamb. That was an interesting discovery. One, the pork and lamb meat did not cook down anywhere near as much as the ground turkey does. So I had a lot more filling than I expected. Enough to make a second half pie. And the mix of the two meats really did fill in the "beef" flavor profile. Or that deeper flavor profile. Since both of those are easier to get than venison, I will probably start using that to make the recipe more frequently. And I think I'm going to try them as a hamburger or meatloaf.

I subbed rutabaga, turnip, and radish for potatoes. I needed to cut the carbs, even if I did give son most of that part. That was an interesting change. I've done rutabaga and turnip before and you end up with a sweetish mashed potato sub. The radishes added a unexpected balance. No bitter or bite, but the sweet was more balanced. I'm going to have to plant them all in the next few weeks.

I just could not get to canning on Saturday. And Sunday, when I finally got to pull the chicken, I discovered it was all bone in. I just was done at that point. I repacked it all into 2.5 lb packs and found spaces in the freezer for it all. I can pull it to use in crockpot recipes over the next few weeks.

I'm off to finally have breakfast. And hoping to finish work by noon so that I can get some planting done.

Hubby was watching a motocross race when the neighbor lady showed up to pick me up to go to the pool, but by the time I got back home he had the entire yard mowed - made the homeplace look so much nicer. The rest of the non-farmed area is still pretty wet so it will have to wait.

Still way too wet in the gardens to even go in and pull the tomato cages out - I'll try again on Thursday or Friday as we are supposed to have rain on Saturday. The temp just hit 70 and there is almost no wind, but I'm going to have to wear long sleeves when I go out to hoe in the flower beds as it still seems chilly to me.

You sound like me. I'll still be wearing a long sleeve or light sweater until it hits 80. It's 68 degrees right now, and I'm wearing one of Cary's long sleeve insulated shirts.

All my canning is finished, and those little pint jars of ground beef look so good on my counter. They've all sealed already. I've got my baking done and the kitchen all cleaned up, too. Now, I'm resting my leg, since it's decided to be very painful, today.

Its also beautiful outside here and a pleasant temperature. Still dusting and sweeping in the living room. Now to get some deep cleaning in the kitchen.

When I discovered the issue with the floor in the pantry room I was looking for my collegen. I am sure that I have two canisters. I had just gotten another one and wanted to rotate. I swear I've looked in the pantry three times and still can't find them.

For some reason my lima beans didn't turn out in a way that DH liked them. He said they tasted sour. And since I've have just got to drop some pounds I can't eat them all so they are going to the dog. Stuff like that for the dog I portion it out in the large yogurt containers and put them in the fridge in DH's work shop, He pours it on the dogs dry food and she laps it up.

I've talked to a couple of people today about getting plants from them, so I have to do that in the next day or so.

up date on my solar charger power banks that I recently bought. I charged them with the power plug and then they sat around for a few days and started losing some of their power. Then I put them near the window in my office and they are staying fully charged. So it looks like the solar charging works well.

Its kinda quiet in here, although I've been talking a lot and seem to have a double post from Sunday at different times. No clue how I did that.

The high is only supposed to be 70 today, but its sunny and breazy.

Not much going on today I'm trying to eat less and didn't do too badly the last couple of days.

Nothing much going on here today, either. I'm trying to get geared up for my dental surgery, tomorrow. From one surgery to the next, I have no idea how it will go. I have another round of Z pack to take, once the surgery is over. I'm glad all my dental work will be over, tomorrow, though.

High today of 78 and the sun is still shining! I got all the laundry done and put away this morning. It was still too cold, at 43 degrees, to hang them outside. 44 degrees again for our low, tonight. 80 tomorrow. I've got all the jars of ground beef all dated and cleaned, and they have been moved to the pantry room. Floors all swept, but still dusting to do, later. By the time I leave for my appointment tomorrow, I want my house to be clean and tidy, in case I don't feel like doing anything for a few days.

Supper tonight will be lasagna with garlic rolls. I'll take a few bites of the lasagna and leave the rest for Cary. They'll be enough left for his supper tomorrow night, too, since I won't be up to cooking or eating. I've lost 3 of the 10 pounds I need to lose. So, slowly making progress.

Cary will be mowing the yard this afternoon, once it dries up some outside. He's still working on firewood this morning.

Well SB I would bring supper over if I were closer. I hate the dentist and will be praying…mostly that I don’t have to go anytime soon! Just teasing of course!

Thanks, as well. I've got my dose of Valium sitting on the dining table ready to go in the morning, LOL. The surgery itself isn't so bad, cause I sleep through the whole thing. It's the pain and swelling afterwards that gets me, plus it takes my mouth forever to heal.

Hugs, SB. I hope things go smoothly, including recovery.

I spent way too long on the phone today trying to get a program's customer care people to resolve and issue. Coworker had tried and was just losing it because what the agent said to her made absolutely no sense at all. It honestly didn't. So I went digging. And then I lined up for a call and got through. And after about 45 minutes of back and forth, got a resolution that works. But then, I'm the one who will climb the chain of supervisors if need be. Anyways, my reward is that I get to do the follow up work to clean it all up. But I'm okay with that. And my boss is happy because a solution was found without having to upset the client.

I'm about to go dig in the freezer for veggies. Dinner was dropped in the crock pot this morning. I bitten by a cleaning bug this morning so cleaning my desk got done. Still have to do more but the encroaching piles are no longer encroaching. I'm going to go finish dinner prep and then chill for a while.

Prayers offered for your surgery tomorrow, Sherree...

Ugh. Got back from my 3 hours of testing at the Neurology office a while ago. The young lady who administered the testing was very pleasant, but the 3 hour part left me mentally worn out. But I should have some results in 2 weeks so that is progress - of some sort - at least. Friday is another MD appointment - I swear I haven't 'doctored' this much since the last time I had cancer - and that was 13 years ago!

I did pull myself together enough brain wise to go to Aldi and Rural King after I left the hospital. I picked up several more bags of the potato/snow pea/red pepper, and potato/green bean frozen veggie mixes as we really like them - 3.5 minutes in the microwave, shake, 3.5 more minutes and you've got a nice side dish. I was shocked at how much the prices had gone up on the other items since I'd last grocery shopped. And gas went up 20 cents a gallon since my last fill up per the receipt in my cup holder.

After I got the groceries carried in and put away, I walked out to the garden - it's gonna be a while before I can get in there for sure! We have rain in the forecast again this coming Saturday - even though we are supposed to have temps ranging from the lower to mid 70's (yeah, they changed it since yesterday), I doubt I'd be able to anything more than do a little clean up. Don't know why I'm getting in such an all fired hurry - we usually don't put warm weather crops out until mid May; and I can put some cool weather ones in the raised beds if I think I just have to get them in. Trying to figure out what to do with the potatoes and sweet potatoes this year is going to be a challenge - the darn moles ate all the sweet potatoes in the raised garden beds; I was lucky to get the ones I'd planted in the tank in the small garden between the house and driveway. I think I know where I can find a plastic tank that froze up and split along part of it's seam - if I can find it, I'll saw it the rest of the way in half and set it up on some blocks to make another pair of raised beds.

DH got 16 tomato plants from my cousin yesterday and 6 more from where he gets his feed and those are in addition to the 6 he got last week. He's got them all planted. He grumbled that I did not help him, but the ground is uneven and I don't want to fall down. We've not got anything else other than a few potatoes, onions and garlic planted. I wouldn't mind some yellow squash and zucchini but we don't have much look with them in the soil we have.

I guess we will have a lot of tomatoes.

So I got the antibiotic for my uti yesterday. I've taken three does and I'm sick as a dog. Headache, dizziness, chills, and vomiting. I've not eaten anything today but I drank a cup of coffee, threw it up. The only thing I seem to be able to keep down is soda. I really need to drink more water, but I'm afraid I'll throw it up. I had terrible chills in the wee hours this morning. I had covers piled up on me but could not get warm.

The med is

Nitrofurantoin

and all o my issues are on the side effect list. I'm not taking anymore and I've sent a message to my doctor.

I hope I can keep the diet coke down.

I hope you're feeling better this morning, Judy. I'll keep you in prayer, today.

My surgery went well, yesterday. I'm not in any pain this morning (I've been taking Norco), but jaw is really swollen. I'm trying to drink my first cup of coffee, but it's hard to do with a mouth full of gauze. I'm still feeling a bit drugged, too, from the anesthesia. I won't be up to doing much of anything today, so I'm planning to rest. At least, it's all over and done. I have to go back for a recheck in 4 weeks to make sure everything is healing properly, and the stitches are dissolving the way they should.

I forgot to mention that it is RAINING, AGAIN, so no garden or yard work will get done. It's supposed to rain all day.

It has been a busy week. We went to the church egg hunt on Saturday. Little grandson found the most eggs in his age group. Then we went to service Easter Sunday. I cooked deviled eggs and strawberry cake. I brought home 2 empty pans and gave away the recipe for strawberry buttercream frosting.

Hubby has been working on my tiller. Yesterday he got to the point of adding the gear oil. So we are getting much closer to it running. It will be like a new one when he is done. He also sharpened my hoe.

I have been planting in my garden. I am a bit behind but I guess it's ok. I did a soil test and everything was ok except nitrogen. I need more nitrogen.

I sprayed the fruit trees all but apple and cherry. They are still in bloom. Also, last year I planted some plum seed from plums I got at the store. I love the plum and it was an heirloom variety. I have a few little plum trees up. I told hubby if they don't make a good plum we can always cut them down. They haven't cost us anything.

We went to the big Walmart yesterday. I wanted to get some work pants. I hope the ones I bought will do. I got a few more pantry items while we were there. 4 cans of salmon and some instant potatoes, the rest was just replacing what we had used.

Take care all

Its not quite 24 hours since I took that last antibiotic, I've still got a headache, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as yesterday. I was afraid to drink water yesterday since I couldn't keep anything down. I did eat some whole milk vanilla flavored yogurt, but that's all. I tried to drink a spright but it just didn't taste good, two sweet. Right now I'm sipping on a diet cola and I've had a half of a bottle of water.

Yesterday DH had to repair a fence that a limb had fallen on where to goats were getting out, so He's tired today.

Looks like we may get a few sprinkles, so its gloomy outside. I think I'm going to ge back to bed and to sleep after I take something for my headache.

Prayers for all, Sherree I'm so glad your surgery went well, still praying.

Would you mind sharing your strawberry buttercream frosting and cake recipe? My husband and our little one LOVES all things strawberry.

I would love to have it, too! We love strawberries, and I've been meaning to ask Mom how my aunt made hers. I don't have a recipe. I ate a small container of yogurt with strawberries and blueberries chopped up in it for my lunch today. A good strawberry cake sounds delicious, even though, I'm on a very restricted diet right now.

I decided to move our June bearing and ever bearing strawberry patches. I just dug existing plants, tilled the new spot, and we have two new beds for the cost of a little fuel for our tractor.

I'm planning on planting potatoes this evening but I'm holding off on planting everything else except the onions. We are supposed to have some cold weather this next week, and I don't want to risk it.

We planted strawberries last year and we are picking a little more than a half gallon to a gallon every other day. First time that we have grown them! Worth the effort! The English peas have loved the weather this spring and I should pick for the first time this weekend. I just about have everything out of the greenhouse. My medicinal herbs and spices are looking good. Glad to hear you are doing well Sherree.
