Good morning. Still curled under covers because my right leg is a mess of cramping muscles. Going to give it a few minutes of stretching and then uo and moving .

I might have over done it a bit yesterday. Or just torqued something the wrong way.

I'm feeling much better this morning. I think I had let myself get dehydrated a bit. After drinking extra water all day, I was feeling back to normal by the end of the day. Plus, the heat and humidity just sucks the life and energy out of you.

Home fellowship, today, so nothing else is planned.

We travelled the last few days. Very high heat and humidity. I did get to go to Traders Joe's for a few favorites and also stopped at a Sprouts for supplements.

We got home last night. I took magnesium before going to bed but woke up several times with cramps in feet. Used Theraworx magnesium foam and thatt helped.
I am sure it was dehydration and will be drinking lots of water.

Tomorrow our high is to be 90. That will feel like fall for a day. Then back to high heat again.

Okay - I think I just ordered the last item for the grandsons' school supplies this year: 4" x 6" index cards - none to be found in three towns. . All totaled up for the two boys, it was close to $300. I know a lot of folks can't afford that. Catholic Charities has a bus that goes around to the various schools on their registration days that has free basic school supplies on it; there are several things that they don't offer but at least the basics are free; I'm sure it helps a great many children.

I also know that our kids don't get to keep all of their supplies in their desk; some of it goes into a supply closet, and the kids pull what they need from it.

Okay, grumbling over :)

Hubby and I just put 4 more pints of peaches in the freezer - I peeled, sliced, and packed, he walked up and down the basement stairs; I figured that was a pretty good deal. Now, if I'd just thought to have him throw in a load of laundry while he was down basement... I'll check in a bit and make sure everything that needs washed from upstairs and the main floor is gathered up before I go down there.

We've got beans in the fridge that are snapped and ready to be blanched, then put in bags for freezing, so that will likely be our next kitchen chore.

I'm trying to judge when to go out and pick tomatoes, beans, and peppers - I just took two steps off the sidewalk in to the yard - if the garden is as wet as the yard, it's going to be a bit before I'll be out there picking. The paths between the rows need tilled badly but i could see from the porch that the beans are still damp as well; hopefully they will dry up enough that I can get the paths around them tilled before the rain starts in again this evening.

The nearby orchard has peaches and early apples for sale, so I may head up there after they open this afternoon; or may wait until tomorrow after I go up to the pool.

Well, someone in a truck, pulling a boat just whipped in behind our shed. Seeing as we live at the end of the dead end road, I'm not sure where they are going  Maybe one of the cousins got a different truck - reckon I'll go check it out.

Have a great week everyone!

So far today, i've pureed a tray of tomoates for the freeze dryer, started a load of laundry, painted the ceiling of the camper and the bed platform, spray painted some of the cabinet hardware for the camper, and other stuff. And its barely 10!

Sounds like you got it going on Sistah! Wanted to check in. Uncle passed 8 days ago. Hospice was spectacular. My aunt who has dementia has done well. They have been best friends for 71 years and married for 63 years. Both have a strong faith and that has seen them through good times and rough times.

Preps have shifted a bit. That salt that I thought we would never use up well Aunt F is going to give it a run for it’s money! Woman loves salt!

Our garden has done beautifully. Our sweet neighbors showed up to help during funeral etc and that really saved us. So thankful for great harvest and great friends. God is faithful.

Everyone have great week.

Well, the truck was a cousin, his two sons, and a grandson - the sons are the ones who are here frequently; they keep the outer areas mowed and plant wildlife plots.

The weeds were so bad in between the rows in the garden that I had to run the push mower down the rows. I'll be going back out to till after lunch, I picked a bucket of tomatoes while I was out there; will be picking another bucket after I get the tilling done.

@etdeb , I have the magnesium. It just wasn't anywhere near me. I don't normally piss off those muscles quite that well. Once I got up and moving they settled down some.

I zoned out for most of the morning. Apparently the body decided that I was going to take some down time, like it or not.

Making lunch. Then going to mow as much of the lawn as the heat will let me. And do a bit more each day until I get it all handle.

And I've got to sit down and make some oils for friends. I got in the one I was waiting for yesterday. And I have to make another batch of son's CBD mix. And seal the tea bags for my raspberry leaf mix. Either way, things to keep the day busy.

All ripe tomatoes picked and washed; Hubby has some set aside to take to work tomorrow along with a small tub of cherry tomatoes. Tomorrow I'll see how it goes trying the core and freeze method for putting up tomatoes that I read on here. They will mostly go in soups or sauces. I have plenty more coming on so if I mess up freezing them, all will not be lost.

After lunch at the local chicken place, we went to walmart. I was looking for a stackable water container but they had none. However, I did buy two containers of Bacon Up, it was cheaper at this walmart than the one we usually go to.

I've put on a load of clothes to wash in an effort to keep the laundry up. Only a few things that need washing, now if I could just get the pile of clean clothes folded, hung up and put away.

Monday week is commodity day for this month. Its always interesting to see what we are given.

Church today was good, and inspiring. Unfortunately for me I'm starting to get tired of going, so I have to have a strong talking with myself. Church and the grocery are about the only places we go and we need to fellowship.

I made an attempt to go to the gardens this afternoon. I opened the back door and stepped out onto the deck. I couldn't breathe, so I turned around and came back inside. Heat index at that time was 123, air temp was 99. I'll try again early tomorrow morning, because there are probably several veggies that need gathering. Tomatoes, peppers, and squash to be sure.

I don't really have any plans for tomorrow. Depending on how many tomatoes, squash, and peppers I gather will determine whether or not I make more pepper rings, chop bell peppers for the freezer, and put up squash in the freezer.

The guy to look at our tree still hasn't called or shown up. Cary is going to call him again tomorrow to see what his holdup is.

DH picked a few tomatoes this afternoon and I bought some of the small cucumbers, so I'm going to make a tomato and cucumber salad with them, and I was just think about adding some pasta to it too. I could add chick peas, but DH doesn't like them and even some asparagus tips. Many possibilities but I don't want to end up eating it all by myself.

Been working on the two rooms upstairs. Holy mother of mushrooms. Massive mess.
I started at 6 am last two days. Worked till about 2.
My kids threw a little birthday party for me! All kinds of good eating.
Gifts too. So precious!
The guys got the larger furniture downstairs and to the burn pile. Yuge help.
Scrap guy comes Tuesday. Was a big burn pile going today.
I planted Brussels. Daughter gets mounds of maters, peppers and okra from garden daily.
All we do is wash off the tomatoes. Throw in zip lock bags and freeze. Dump in hot water. Skins fall off. Start cooking up sauce
Just lots of good stuff going on.
I'm going to paint upstairs. It will be nice.
Scot walked to back porch today. That's uphill a pretty long way. With walker and us following but he did it. Made it into the kitchen.
We are so blessed!
I'm trying to keep up but I start reading and fall asleep. No offense to you all. Just pooped.

So I finally got around to looking at the dates on my coffee stash. The container that tastes stale is date in 2021. And I have a couple more dated some time in 2021. I'll have to check the freeze dried bags that I mix with the coffee in the cannisters and use something newer to help the taste. God forbid I should ever throw something out that is past the best buy date, unless its spoiled. The coffee just doesn't taste fresh.

I missed church today because I woke up feeling nasty. I ended up laying down after breakfast and didn't get up until 11:30. It rained early this morning so too wet to go to the garden. We've been having some nice rains the last week. I'm so glad the trees were taken care of before the rain, or the yard would be worse than it is and it's not pretty! Heavy equipment will do a number on a lawn even without dropping a couple trees onto it!

I've been getting a couple summer squash every few of days, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes every other day. I've been giving extras away as not enough to can. The slicer tomatoes and romas are not yet ripe although I should have some by the end of the week.

Providing I feel better, I must force myself to go to town to shop this week. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. My lists are getting long, and I will be exhausted before I'm halfway through my shopping. I need to go to Dollar Tree, Walmart, Aldi and maybe Fareway. Fareway has Colorado peaches on their ad for $1.99 per pound. At that price I'll just be getting 4 or so.

Did any of you see the recipe for Poorman's Ice Cream? I'm going to try it because I think it would be a wonderful pantry ingredient treat for difficult times. I'm always looking for pantry ingredient recipes.

I still have half of the recipe clippings I saved to go through and organize. Once I get that far, I intend to start trying them and deciding whether to keep or toss. I'm also going through my rather large collection of cookbooks to decide what to keep. I copied one recipe from a crockpot cookbook then donated it. I took it to the senior apartment complex across from me on Friday and said they could put it on their bookshelf although I have a feeling one lady intended to latch onto it.

I also went through my buffet and pulled out several items to donate. One was a wedding gift that has been used maybe 10 times in 63 years so time to let it go. I don't even recall who gave it to us. I still have another section of the buffet to go through so hopefully more stuff will be added to the donate box.

I'm hoping to get the outside of several windows washed this week. A friend said she'd come over and hold the ladder for me. I also would like to get the bedroom and guest room curtains washed and the inside of those windows washed. Both rooms have venation blinds to be dusted so my allergies will have a field day between blinds and dust filled curtains!

Slow and steady continues for me. Did our meal planning for the next ten days or so and got groceries for that (plus ten additional pantry items). Total was $125 ish which wasn’t so bad at all. Hubby’s garden is doing great, and we are in the midst of tomatoes and squash. We got a lot of it “put away“ over the weekend with more steadily coming in. We will be getting tomatoes until the first frost.
Renee - I hear you on school supplies. They are so expensive. As a classroom teacher, I do not “community classroom use” any of the supplies my students bring (except tissues/wipes). I help to get the students started with what they need and everything else goes in a baggie with their name on it. They pull from their baggie as they need throughout the year. At the end of the year, any leftover supplies get sent home with the student to use for next year. I do have “classroom supplies” but these come from my own money or donations from neighbors, etc. Just thought I would add a perspective. :rs:

It was HOT here over the weekend, and I spent the weekend recharging and getting extra sleep. I also finished two books and started a third which was nice.

I hope everyone had a wonderful week ahead.

I hit the gardens early this morning, but my eye glasses fogged up as soon as I stepped outside. It wasn't quite as hard to breathe, though. Another excessive heat warning for today, with no rain in sight. The tomatoes still weren't ripe enough to gather, but there are several that will be ready tomorrow. I did get a few more banana peppers and squash. The green beans are dying without producing but a small handful of beans. The vines were so lush and green, but we must have planted them on a "no planting" day, or it's been because of the heat from planting them late.

Just regular household chores, today. I need to do a load of laundry to hang out on the line. I've got my middle of the month shopping list made out which includes more doggie treats, milk, yogurt, ice cream, and produce. We plan to do that, Wednesday. The cost will come out of my monthly household budget. That will be the end of our shopping, until the first of next month when my budget starts over. The first is one payday for Cary.

He called the tree cutting guy this morning and had to leave a message. I hope he comes out one day this week. We're thinking the cost will be around $3,000 to bring the tree down, hauled away, and the stump removed. The tree is still losing a lot of leaves, and it's beginning to look sickly. It's right at 100 years old. We want it down as soon as the man can get to it.

I had to throw out two cartons of cottage cheese, I think DH is giving it to the dog. I let it go bad, I had been eating it a couple of times a day so I was buying a lot. Then I kinda forget to eat it and it went bad. Along with an opened can of mandarin oranges. I don't know what I was thinking.

We stopped in wm yesterday after we ate lunch and I walked around a bit but really didn't see much to put in my basket.

Yesterday at church i was able to stand up without pulling myself up using the back of the pew in front of me. I haven't been able to do that in a long time. And walking around in wm I didn't feel like I was going to fall out. I had decided my days of strolling around in the grocery store were over. I guess not. I'm thinking that maybe my weight loss is helping me. Its not a huge loss but it is 14 pounds. I'm getting back on track starting today to push for another 10 pound loss.

I've got a list of things I want to get done. A couple of small loads of laundry, shovel out the kitchen, bet the groceries put away and the front room cleared out.

A funny story, well to me anyway, on front rooms. When I first married my ex who is from New Orleans, he called the living room the front room. For a long time I corrected him, but then it occured to me that maybe it was because he grew up living in a shot gun and the front room of the house could be designated just about anything. So the front room on this house is a combination of things and its not the living room, we have a real living room, its just not the front room. Go figure.

Our egg production is down to 4 or 5 a day. That's enough for us, I eat two and he eats three. He has found a few dead hens lately and today he saw a cayote in the chicken year. The chicken yard is probably at least 1/4th of an acre. Its supposed to get up to 107 today and that's not the heat index. Good thing we got a new ac unit this year.

Our air temp is supposed to reach 100 with expected heat index of over 120, again, today. Thanking God for our ac unit, too. No rain in sight for several days. I believe our dog would have a heat stroke if he stayed out in these temps. He doesn't do well in hot weather and loves the cold. These days, he only wants out to do his business then right back inside.

In spite of the heat, are any of ya'll getting the feeling of needing to start your Fall cleaning and prepping for this winter, already? I don't know why, but I'm getting itchy to begin mine. I'm thinking of doing a complete inventory of all our winter supplies and an inventory of all my pantry items. I don't want to come up short on anything should we go through another lockdown. Plus, who knows what "they" might turn loose on us next and when.

Good call, I'm trying to psyc myself up to do an inventory.

I'm still struggling with how to rotate my canned goods. When you have 6 cases of something and a few new cans what the hell can I do. However, it just occurred to me to put the new cans on the second level and when I use up the first level, move that new can level down a notch. The way DH organized some of the cans makes it difficult to do that but I'll figure it out.

I understand about rotation. I have floor to ceiling shelves wall to wall in the pantry room. I also have one big corner in our bedroom dedicated to canned food and underneath our bed, plus a little space in the laundry room. It's hard for me to rotate all that, too, when it's all in differing places. It does make it easier for me to buy by the case or flat, so as not to have individual cans of something. I use what's in the pantry room first, since it will always be the oldest. Then, I use what's in the bedroom, then, onto what's underneath the bed. That's the best I can do. It's always dated, so if I miss something, I can get it back into rotation by knowing the date bought. It's definitely a continuing process.

SB I am working on my fall stock up lists. Nothing huge but a list for local grocery and a Costco list. Hope to get there next week. 100 miles away. Decided today to add another bag of cornmeal. Readijng reports of poor harvests so want enough until next years harvest.
I also want to go through recipes and maybe find some I've forgotten.

I'm now being more specific about dating my cans. I buy one or two new cans and not a flat, does make it harder but my budget just won't allow much in the way of buying whole flat. I did however last month buy a flat of chicken noodle soup and also mandarin oranges. I was going through the oranges pretty quickly when I was eating so much cottage cheese. Maybe that's why I stopped eating it, LOL. I use to date the cans and then I didn't after covid. I guess its taken me all this time to completely get over it.

Last year, we went through our house winterizing it the best we could. I bought new insulated curtains for all the windows, and Cary caulked around all the window frames. I also made some draft dodgers for the outside doors. I don't think there is anything left we can do to winterize the house, but I'm going to be adding more oil lamp wicks and more gallons of oil for our lamp oil tank. I might stock up on more jar candles as well. Last year, I bought 3 new really plush throw quilts/blankets to add to my stash, so I don't need more of those. I don't think I need to add anything new to my pantry. I'm just continuing to replace what I already use. I'll be doing the inventory just to make sure.

I just don't trust the gov not to do something drastic that will affect all of us as we approach winter. I want to be as prepared as we can be for whatever they throw at us. I'm not one that waits until the last minute to prepare.

I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I expect extreme food shortages, more diseases, more vaccine mandates of unknown origins, more lockdowns, and a rationing of electricity/gasoline coming soon. Not to mention a possible new war thrown into the mix. In other words, more governmental control of the masses. All of that doesn't even include the weather cycles that keep changing causing disturbances in our weather patterns.

One way I rotate is to do weekly shopping trip through my pantry. Once I decide on meals for the week, I shop. I even keep extra grocery bags in the pantry. My pantry is in my basement, and I've been working on organizing it since Spring when I found some bulging cans. Last week I found a spoiled container of broth. I really do not like the paper cartons of broth as they do not keep, and I want a lot of broth in my pantry.

Today high is to be 68º around 5 p.m. It is now 66º. Jeans and long sleeves today. I'm not ready for fall because that means winter is coming and I'm definitely not ready for winter. I don't mind the cold as much as the shorter days.

I have a long list for Aldi and another for Walmart and am trying to make myself go either tomorrow or Wednesday. I also have a short list for Dollar Tree and another medium list for Fareway. The streets in the town where I shop are a hot mess. Close street A and detour to street B and then cut 4 lanes of street B to 2 lanes. The way I prefer to go into town was closed for two years, reopened a couple months ago and I've heard is now detoured again. The other way into town has construction so 4 lanes are down two 2. IT'S A HUGE PAIN!!

I also need to take another day to go to thrift shops for clothes. If I don't find what I want, I'll have to buy new which will be painfully expensive. I need sweatshirts and jeans. I think I'll try the farm stores if I can't find stuff at thrift shops before I give in and order online. I hate to order online because I like to "feel" the fabric and check size before buying. I retired 10 years ago, will be 11 at the end of the year, and haven't purchased anything new since then. Well, socks and undies I've bought new! The shirt and jeans I have on today have to be over 15 years old so it's time.

The two men from the church that did the prep work on the house before the whole crew painted, caulked around the windows where needed. Yet another blessing. I have a comforter and enough blankets, but they are old and I'd like a new. Doubt I'll be buying any though. I do need to make a trip to the laundromat to get them washed up.

nomifye -- I think the "front" room used to be used to refer to the parlor which was where children weren't allowed and was only used for guests. Also, losing 14 pounds is something to celebrate. Your goal for losing more is achievable if you keep doing what you've been doing. Congratulations.

I totally agree and that is why I feel it so imperative to keep prepped to the max. I think the 2024 election cycle may lead to many things I do not want to see, including the continued suppression of free speech and other violations of our Constitutional rights. I also question whether or not the food shortages are all weather related or perhaps are government induced as has happened with our oil production. I find it amazing that so many food production plants have burned down in recent years. Rules, regulations and taxes are also hindering production in this country.

Before the heat and drought killed our tomatoes we picked at the slightest lighting of the total green tomatoes.
Really white ish. If not birds get everyone of them. They continued to ripen in the house.

Last spring I bought some additional cover for sleeping in my lift chair. When we went to Illinois in February DH's son gave him a like new electric blanket, its very nice, they don't have to buy economical. We have a good supply of sheets for DH's bed. I had two what I call sheet blankets that were my mother and bought a new one for sleeping in my chair. It was called a hospital blanket, same thing my mother had, so now I have three. Two put together is very cosy warm, so three will be great when it gets really cold, that is along with my flannel lined satin pjs and night gown.

I usually pick our tomatoes before they are fully ripe. This year, when I did that, they would develop rotten spots on them, even though, I kept them in the house. Now, I'm letting get mostly ripe on the vines. I've lost a lot of ours to too much rain and heat.

SB, one additional thing you might try is interior storm windows. Basically a small wood frame cut to fit inside your regular windows with plastic attached with to it nice and tight. You can use weather stripping to seal around the edges. How you hold it in depends on where you set it in the window but the ones I'm planning on can be held in place by the same type of mounts used for body length wall mirrors. And then during the summer you can tuck them away in the garage. Actually, the plans for my son's room are for ones made of Lexan because of his issues. The ones for the rest of the house are just plastic.

Bone weary tired. Finished work. Then did the lawn, all of the remainder which I had actually planned to do over two days. Then did some more outside organizing. More plant pots stacked up and tucked under the tarp and out of sight. To be honest, I'm surprised at how many I seem to have left. I used a lot of them this year. And I'm almost completely out of the one quart and half gallon sizes. Most of what is left is either larger sizes or small starter sizes. The smaller ones are all tucked into two heavy duty stackable bins that have drainage holes. Small bins but sturdy.

Tomorrow is jam packed with work and in town stuff. I spent an hour today hunting down son's seizure med. His main pharmacy did not have it in stock and could not get it. But the Sam's Club both had it in stock, and could order more if needed. The biggest problem was that the prescription couldn't be transferred and the doctor is out on maternity leave. And they have a fancy answering system that does everything it can to keep your from talking to an actual person. I just kept hitting different selections until I got a human being that I could explain the situation to, and explain that we couldn't wait 48 to 72 hours for the new scrip to be sent. It worked. The scrip was sent within the hour.

His primary insurance allows a 90 fill but his secondary doesn't. I'm tired of this nonsense so I asked them to do a 90 day fill and we'll pay the copay from the primary. They also said that if I called them before the scrip was due to be filled again, like even before the 10 days that insurance has allowed, they will make sure that they get it in beforehand or that we know well in advance that we are going to have to hunt it down again. So I'm putting a reminder in my phone to call about 3 weeks early and make sure they can get it. The guy said that if needed, they can push the insurance company for an early refill given the situation. Now his secondary doesn't care where we go. They'll fill it anywhere. But the secondary is Medicaid, and if I can keep the Medicaid expenses to a minimum, I try to.

The only thing that has kept me from moving his scrips to Sam's Club was that the other pharmacy stayed on top of things and knew us. But they've had a changeover in people, and the new ones aren't staying on top of things. His primary insurance only allows two pharmacies, and the other one is seriously not convenient. So I'm probably moving all his scrips next month. I know I go to Sam's at least once a month. But I am probably one of the few people in the US that can say that there really isn't a convenient WalMart pharmacy for us.

I walked back inside and realized that I have a pile of inside work waiting for me that needs to be done tonight as well. So I ordered dinner delivered. Now I'm going to go work on another project, inside, until dinner gets here. Maybe two more depending on the timing. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to completely crash hard tonight as soon as I get out of the shower. I've been using caffeinated tea to keep moving for 3 days now and that's gonna catch up with me hard, even if it's not my brewed, stand a spoon up in it, version of caffeinated tea. (At least it won't be as bad if it's not my home brewed.)

We have outside storm windows on all windows. I have mini blinds on the inside with the insulated curtains over them. Once Cary caulked around all the window frames, it cured all the drafts that came through these old windows. Our biggest problem in the winter and summer is that when this old house was built, no insulation was put in the outside walls. We've added tons of insulation to the attic, but only put up the aluminum styrofoam boards on the outside walls , before we put on the cedar siding. That's all we could do, because of the way they built the studs with cross pieces between each one. That stopped us from being able to have insulation blown into the walls.

I too have the feeling of waiting for the shoe to drop, but so far, am calm about it. It makes me double check my lists and prep items for sure.

Hubby and I just had a chat on some of our needs/ wants we are going to focus on this fall. We want to get more firebricks (we use in our wood stove). We also want to upgrade our queen mattress to a king size. Those are a couple of things that come to mind for us.

Slow and steady …..
