Youngest grandson has been hanging out with us the past couple of days - the boy is a HOOT! And, boy - do I ever wish I had his energy! He finally slowed down around 11:30 last night so I hope I get another hour or so of quiet.

The overnight temps have dropped down into the 50's and low 60's - so nice to be able to have the porch doors open for fresh air. We are going to see the 90's again by the end of the week, so I'm going to take advantage of the nicer weather early in the week to get at least a few things done outside this week. The 10 day forecast also shows no rain

The honey bees have been swarming the hummingbird feeders again - I had to move them from the porch to the shed. I had put out sugar water and plain water for the bees, but they wouldn't leave the feeders alone. I don't like to put sugar water on the porch while the grandson is here - the bees don't bother me, but I'm afraid that he would get anxious and start swatting at them.

Plans for today are to work up all the peaches on the counter and get them in the freezer. Which means I'm going to have to find a small storage tote to gather all the frozen ice pops in one place so that I can lay the bags of peaches out flat to freeze. We've only got a couple more parades to walk in and hand out the ice pops to advertise daughter and oldest grandsons business.

Gotta go make some French Toast - back in a bit!

I'm not quite sure why my body isn't super frozen and stiff this morning, but it's not. It is sore. And both son and I have headaches from the barometric shift. But it's not too bad. And we both have mess on board now.

The plan is to start the day by getting the rack I'll use for cleaning and painting the bamboo set up, and get the current pieces on it. And slice one or two more. And maybe get another support for the build marked, or several of them, so that cutting can occur.

And then house cleaning. And when the kitchen is somewhat wrastled back under control, get the onions and bell peppers sliced and in the oven to caramelize/roast. I would like to have them canned up this week.

I'd also like to get the cowboy candy and chipolte peppers canned. And the ghosts and scorpion peppers will head to the freezer, with a few diverted to make fermented hot honey for brother.

The temps are supposed to drop a bit and stabilize in the low 90s, although that doesn't mean the heat index won't go a bit nuts again. And once this rain band goes through, it's supposed to be dry again for another week.

My brain is already tracking on the projects and where to go. So much to do and so little time.

Home fellowship/Bible study this morning, even though, I don't feel up to it. Everyone enjoys it so much, I can't let myself knock them out. I have no plans to do anything else today, except rest. Cary will get "carry-out" pizzas for our supper tonight.

It looks like rain will be coming in soon. What we get today is it for another 8 days, so I hope it's a good soaker.

Well, I forgot I loaned the vacuum sealer out, so I went old school and used plastic freezer boxes. That worked until I ran out of those. I dug through a cupboard and managed to find 4 more - but no lids. The rest will have to wait until l find the lids - and/or more freezer boxes. And that is IF I can find any without making a trip to the Amish store. I need to start turning out the cupboards one by one anyway - and will hopefully get rid of a few things - I got way behind with things during the Covid chaos with mandatory overtime, etc... at work. I guess I could use some of the Ziploc type freezer bags I've got on hand, but I've had a couple of messes to clean up when using them and having them pop open as they are freezing - my fault for putting too much in the bag, most likely.

Church was good, pleasing God and not looking for approval from people. That works for me, I've not lived my life looking for approval from others.

We decided to eat at home after church instead of going to the road kill cafe. I'm determined to stick to my weight loss food plan this week, working towards losing a couple of pounds.

Looking forward to a bit of cooler weather this week and some rain tonight. Its hot now but its gonna be cold this winter.

Our home fellowship went really well. Everyone knew I wasn't feeling well, so they left a bit early.

DIL was telling me about her latest diet. She's lost 20 lbs. on it in a very short time and is planning to stick with it. Her mom went on it 2 weeks ago and has lost 7 lbs. already. Once I get off the prednisone, I'm going to start on it, too. I always gain weight when I take prednisone. It's basically an egg and meat diet. I have 4 other family members who have been on the same diet for the past few months, and they've lost so much weight that they are almost unrecognizable from when I saw them last.

All of that rain that was getting close to us this morning just dried up and disappeared. We didn't get a drop. Parts of Mississippi are already under a "burn ban". It will be moving into our area if we don't get rain soon.

We are on the path of the hurricane, so plans for the week will be up in the air. We did have a busy week planned, but things might be cancelled due to weather.

Did a big cat food order through Chewy's--used an old $30 gift card and got another one from this order. Anything to save a few bucks. The order will be here tomorrow.

Had a minor surgical procedure done early this week. Got a prescription for pain meds filled, but didn't need them. Will go in the emergency stash.

Several trips to the store this last week, filling in a few last holes. Trying to do more cooking at home and trying new recipes. Some work and some don't, but I would rather find out now.

We were blessed with a small cooler of home grown beef. My good friends dad gives each of his kids 1/2 of a beef for Christmas. One of the kids has not cooked any of it. They either eat out or buy fresh meat to cook. So they gave their meat to the other kid, who shared some with us. I keep them in fresh eggs most of the time and lately garden vegetables because I have more than I can put up. They raise a garden, but not as large as mine. They have really enjoyed the melons I have growing. I share with our kids and my sister too.

Hubby got a text last night from our neighbor wanting to know if his mailbox was there Saturday when I got our mail. It was. Apparently someone stole it Saturday night. The post is still there. His was a fairly new, large box. I guess someone else needed a new box. We can't see the boxes from either house.

The weather has cooled off a little bit. We need to cut hay this week. And we worked some more on fire wood. Lots to do before winter.

I think I am done harvesting elderberries. I have them frozen till I can make Summertyme's flu remedy. I also picked the few apples that the raccoons left me. I will make apple sauce for us. Today I have to either freeze or can peas. I probably need to pick them again too. I have more than my aches and pains wants me to do, but I just keep plugging along.

I sold some hay last week. I even sold all 15 bales of last years hay to someone wanting it to cover some dirt work they had done. Hubby was glad to see it go. It was in a separate stack and needed to go.

We have to take our truck to the repair guy this week. It will take him several days to fix it. But that's ok. He is thousands cheaper than the dealership. He worked at the dealership for 20 years before opening his own shop.

Have a good week everyone

I'm beginning to see some improvement this morning. The bladder pain isn't as intense. I'm still not feeling my best, but I've managed to change the bedsheets and have those washed and hung on the line to dry.

I've been working on my monthly shopping trip list while I've just been laying around for the past few days. Instead of concentrating on food, I've been thinking of buying more OTC med's, household cleaners, laundry detergent, etc. I want to make sure I've got a good handle on all of those in case we get locked down again over this Covid crap. We have enough food. I just want to have ALL bases covered. It's been a while, since I've bought any of those items. BTW, Mom's sister that she just finished visiting over in Alabama and her husband are down with Covid right now. She's 80 and he is 90. I'm glad Mom came home when she did.

Are any of you concerned over possible lockdowns and/or mandatory vaxes this Fall? Any special prepping?

Woke up with low energy levels this morning - had a lot of trouble getting to sleep last night due to hip pain. Maybe I should have gotten the 4" memory foam mattress instead of the 2" one, but since I was barely able to get the sheet over the regular deep mattress, 2" memory foam one, and mattress pad, I don't think there is any way I could wrangle a 4" one.

Middle grandson had a Junior Football League game yesterday; they won 18-0 so he was pretty happy. Youngest grandson hung out with me rather than going to the game since it was an away game, but we headed back to daughters once I got my chores done at home. Since school is back in session, he only gets to play his games on the weekends. I really didn't mind plopping down in daughter's comfy chair to read and relax for the late afternoon/evening.

I'll try to make up for yesterday's R&R day today. I'm going to take adavantage of the cooler weather and get the rest of the peaches finished up - one way or the other  I've got plenty of Sure Jell on hand so peach jam will likely be a part of it. I peel the peaches, plop 'em in a non-breakable bowl, and use my mesh potato masher to chop them into appropriate size pieces for the jam. Then I'm going to put together a pasta cassarole - I'll use another package of that pre-cooked sausage I got on sale at the Amish Salvage store for the meat, penne pasta, red sauce, parmesan and mozzarella cheese and call it good.

I'll probably strip the beds and run them through the washer, but they will be dried in the dryer as there is something blooming that is causing some allergy type symptoms.

Not really concerned and I have plenty of food. I think I can skip grocery shopping this coming month, except for a couple of things and that's it. Walmart has been out of the gallon bottles of spring water that I get for almost a week. I usually buy two bottles every grocery shop, I have quite a few in the she shed.

Thanks, Judy, for reminding me to put more cases of bottled water on my list. Can't forget water! I've gone through 2 cases without replacing already.

I think my biggest prep for the winter is going to be getting the fall/winter garden in. Yesterday I figured out how to do my normal thermal mass bottles in the garden beds without getting another "trash" warning. I'm going to clear the beds, put the bottles in, and then put the ground cover over them. During winter that will actually help keep them warmer/heat them up more during the day.

I wanted to do cloches, but even the biggest ones that I could make, from 5 gallon water jugs, really aren't large enough for plant. My brain is currently plotting PVC and plastic cold frame. The only thing I haven't worked out is a pivot point so that I can lift the cover to harvest. And also, I really don't want to do plastic because it won't allow water through, so I'm working through that. Frost cover would help slow heat loss but I don't know if I could find it at an affordable price, in an affordable amount.

I also get two cases every time I shop. Because of our water system issues bottled water is getting snapped up like crazy. I don't get the largest cases anymore because they are too heavy for us to pick up. Takes two people to carry one of the larger cases.

And speaking of water, we finally got rain last night, seemed like a good down pour. And its much cooler today. Its getting time for the weather to start changing but back to 100 next week. Temps like that will draw in the hurricanes.

I still buy the 40 bottle cases. We have a lot of problems with our community water, too. We've been under a "boil water" notice for 2 days. It was lifted last night. Something about a contractor digging down and breaking a water line somewhere on down the road from us.

We still haven't gotten any rain. Only in the 80's for us, today, but yeah, back into the upper 90's next week. Cary plans to mow this afternoon. Not that the grass has grown much, but he enjoys doing it. He's not the kind of person who can sit in the house all day. He has to be up and outdoors doing something, unless he's enjoying a good book.

It doesn't look like the cane that's going into Florida will provide us with any relief. I'm keeping my out for one that might be headed our way. Lots of them out there right now.

I got up this morning with no bladder pain at all. Now, if I can just get my energy back, so I can get caught up on everything. I still have a couple of days to go on my med's, so I'm praying that it will continue to knock it out and calm the inflammation completely. I will see my rheumatologist next month, and I'm sure he will do a full workup. He may recommend that I see my urologist for testing on my bladder, too. It's been a year, since having that test done.

Sunny clear skies today, so I'm trying to get caught up on all the laundry. I have one load already on the line and another one washing. I didn't have the strength to lug the laundry basket out to the clothesline, so Cary did that for me. It was a load of his heavy work clothes. The rest of the day will be spent doing light housework as I feel up to it.

Still working on my shopping list. I take stuff off and then add to it. Back and forth. I have no idea what the finished list will look like, LOL.

I do the same thing. Right now i've reduced my list to almost nothing. Less money at the grocery more money for the stash. I'm still trying to replace what I spent on the generators.

I start my list out with the basics we need each month, then it goes from there. After the basics, I can play around with my list, trying to keep it within my budget. Milk, eggs, yogurt, cheeses, butter, fresh produce, replacements for the pantry, cereal, and dog treats are my basics for food items. I also restock our wine cabinet every month out of the same budget. Plus, any household items or products that we might need. I'm getting really close to needing new kitchen towels.

One of the things I needed to stock up on was Liquid IV. It's one of the few electrolyte powders that is safe for him. And of those few, the only one where we can get straight electrolyte powder. They sell immune and energy boosters as well but they are the only company that has just electrolyte powders that are safe for him.

And for Labor Day weekend they are doing 30% off. That is a deep discount sale for them. So I stocked up for son. I could have gotten the larger Costco/Sam's Club packs but they've only had lemon lime for the past 6 months. And while he'll drink that, he's not real fond of it.

This was an unexpected opportunity that I'm glad I was able to take advantage of.

And tomorrow we pick up a bulk order that has meats and other items that are safe for him, and the pantry needs a refill on those items.

I was hoping to see a sales catalogue in the mail from Sam's, since Labor Day is coming up. Sam's just doesn't have sales like they once did. When they do, it's just junk food stuff and vitamins for the most part.

I haven't seen anything that I'm interested in so far. But then, I'm still working yard and garden improvements that should last for a good long while. Hopefully until I can't garden any longer.

@SouthernBreeze We got the Sam’s catalog last week so there is a new one that starts tomorrow. I’m happy to hear you’re feeling some better.

DH had to have a procedure done yesterday so we left out early and then took it easy as we were both worn out after getting home. I’m more tired today than yesterday unfortunately. Way too much walking and being around too many people just did me in.

The surgery waiting area was ridiculous, with a super loud tv on, people talking loudly, phones ringing and an obnoxious mother and child with her tablet playing games really loud. I really love children and I realize sometimes parents may not have childcare but a hospital waiting room with a mother who couldn’t/wouldn‘t bother looking after her just got on my last nerve. And I really hope that child has a good immune system because not only was she’s rolling, crawling on the nasty carpet, she was also laying her doritos on the floor and picking them up to eat with her tongue. Mom was way too busy looking at her phone to bother with her.

I worked extra hard Sat. and Sun. and finished up with the deep clean, inventory and organizing in the bathroom and got all the laundry out of the way since I knew we’d be busy yesterday. It’s a good thing because I am exhausted today. My plan was to start in our bedroom today but I really don’t see that happening! Along with with the above kind of cleaning, I’m getting started doing some Swedish Death Cleaning, not that I’m planning to kick off anytime soon but I’m trying to look at things with different eyes so when the time comes my family won’t have so much to deal with. Some areas aren’t bad but others, well it’s stuff that just needs to go. My kids can probably get some use out of all those Q-tips but not my old makeup or shoes, clothes etc. I’m never going to use again LOL.

DH is planning on going and checking on/ordering things he’ll need to replace the bathtub this week. So I guess that will be our biggest prep this week.

I've had some energy today and am working on shoveling out the kitchen, again. Poor Dh has had junk food today, toaster pastries for breakfast, cheese, salami and crackers for lunch and frozen pizza for dinner. None of this added to the piles I'm clearing out in the kitchen. I found some beef sausage in one of the freezers and cooked a piece of it for me, it would be too spicey for DH. I'll chop some of it up later with veggies for me.

Of these we don't buy milk, eggs, cereal and dog treats, so that saves us money, oh and Dh is a tetotaler so we don't buy wine and through the years I've lost a desire to drink much of anything, another money savings. I do have some hard liquors in the pantry if they are ever needed. I buy more frozen produce than fresh and not much cheese, DH likes American for a sandwich (yuck) and I pretty much eat cheese sticks. Unfortunately Sherree, our diet is not as interesting as yours. Most of my cooking DH doesn't like and I eat a lot of stir fries. So frozen meat and veggies go a long way for me.

We get boxed milk and powdered milk in commodities so I've only purchased whole boxed milk for the pantry. Rarely even use it. I only buy butter from time to time.

The dog gets a lot of left overs and she's happy with that. She's a good dog and loves our goats.

Yeah. People's eating habits are different. That's understandable. Cary loves my cooking and eats just about anything I fix, unless it's cauliflower, asparagus, or broccoli. He hates that stuff. I cook the same way his mother and my mom cooked. A meat of some kind, 2 sides of veggies, and bread of some kind. More often than not, a dessert as well. We're just used to eating that way. We like lots of variety in our meals, so I change things up from time to time like making spaghetti, tacos, or just a chef salad.

My diet starts tomorrow, so for me, everything changes. I'll still cook for Cary, but I will be limited to cheese, eggs, meat of some kind, and veggies that are Keto approved. No sugar and no carbs. I can plan our meals to where it will suit both of us. I had 2 boneless pork chops and 4 deviled eggs for my supper tonight as a practice run, LOL. Cary ate the same, except he also had potatoes with gravy and bread, too.

What a change. It was 65 degrees this morning when we went out to water everything. Such a change from getting hit in the face with a blast furnace when we opened the back door every morning. Still no rain in sight and with 90 degrees, today, there is no humidity factor, so it will feel cooler.

I'm also feeling much better this morning. I just finished making Cary a strawberry cheesecake for his dessert tonight. I'm still pacing myself, so as not to go full force back into everything. My house needs a good cleaning, though. I'll do what I can on that, today.

The window ac went out in the front room. I walked in there yesterday afternoon and it was very hot, and it was cooler outside. The unit is about 15 years old, DH flushed it out this morning but set on 65 it was luke coming out. DH is in the process of pulling it out of the window, he had it sealed very well, so its a chore getting it loose. My brother bought two ac units for the cabin, but I had gotten a spare so he is going to use the spare. Although we do have the other two to fall back on, hope its never necessary.

Soon I have to get back in the kitchen and finish that clean up. DH grew a couple of okra plants the produced a nice mess but I never did anything with it, so I gathered that up off the counter do I gathered it up for either the goats or the chickens. He said he won't try growing okra again and I'm good with that. I'm not worth a hoot at processing fresh produce, just don't have the energy. If we had to depend on the garden to eat we'd starve. But for the forseable future that is not an issue.

So glad you’re feeling better @SouthernBreeze! We’re having cooler temps too and I forgot to mention that we got a really good rain on Sat. I’m so ready for summer to exit and fall to get here.

I feel a bit better today than yesterday but still so tired. I’ve made a grocery list for a few sale items we want/need since DH will be running errands in that town today. I spent a little time in the pantry straightening up and putting a few things away. Definitely need to spend more time in there checking to see what I need to bring up from the basement or shop for.

@nomifyle Happy to hear you have a spare a/c on hand. I hope you’re feeling cooler soon. I need to get in my kitchen too. DH made an easy supper last night since I felt so bad and neither of us felt up to doing dishes, so they got a rinse before going in the sink where they are still waiting on me.

It's another cool and crisp morning. 63 degrees when I went out to hang my last load of laundry on the clothesline. I almost needed a sweater, LOL. I'm all caught up on my laundry, now. Only 88 for our high, today. Sunny skies with still no rain in sight.

Once, I finished with getting the laundry taken care of, I decided it was time to clean out and reorganize the chest of drawers in our bedroom. I'll be laying in more underwear for both of us sooner rather than later. Much needed. Cary and I have opened our last pack that I had in storage. Need to replace those. I went through my sock drawer, and I don't think I'll need to buy any more socks in my lifetime!

I'm still tweaking my shopping list. It'll be next week, before I get to town, so maybe I'll have it finalized by then. I'm hoping the price of ground beef has come down. I've used up a case that I canned and need to start canning it again to replace. I still keep a few 1lb. packs in the freezer, too. I only use the canned when I'm making something spicy or saucy to overcome the canned taste. We prefer the frozen over canned, but the canned works well for us using it in certain recipes.

Doing two batches of pickled banana peppers today. One quick pickled, the other will be canned.
12 vac sealed bags of breaded frozen okra in the freezer with enough to do 4 more bags.
Banana bread done.
Cleaning out the fridge then working on the downstairs bath.
Need to get the new groceries into the pantry and submit the Walmart order.
Ollie's bought out a camping store and has the chargeable fans and lanterns on sale. I want to pick up a couple of each.
Not much else except working the gardens.
We did harvest lettuce from dh's small hydroponic system for dinner.

Today was finally a somewhat normal day. I didn't spend more time than expected working on things. And everything that is supposed to be done, is done. And I surrendered on the lawn and paid someone to come tame it for this time.

I got into the squash bed and cleared out the dead vines. I'm leaving the rest for next week. I need to pull the trampoline mat, lay cardboard, and mulch it for the winter. I'm not planning on using that garden bed for winter crops.

I've been harvesting hot peppers all week. They've needed the heat that we got last week, and that we are getting for the rest of this week. Each batch is going straight into the freezer for now. I just don't have the time.

I'm going to do grocery order pickups at the crack of dawn tomorrow. I don't want to be in the city when people really get moving. And I'm hoping this means that I can use Saturday and Sunday to get a chunk of the to do list done. I wanted to get fall planting done but I didn't get seeds started so I have to wait for the growers. And the local growers say it will be mid-Sept. So I'm blocking that weekend out for getting and planting the seedlings. And getting in the frost covers/row covers to go over the brassicas until the chill weather chases their bugs off. That's probably also the weekend I'll order the hoop bender. So we have that long to get a large chunk, if not all, of this shed/planting area done.

There is a part of me, a very large part, that wants to splurge on one of the plastic greenhouses. But I can honestly say that I won't need it until early spring. So I can get the hamster to back off a hair. Just a hair.

I don't know why, but the whole brain and body say that we need to get in early this weekend and stay in. There's a flea market that I normally go to. And a few things I'm looking for. But no motivation whatsoever to be out in public this weekend at all. Except I want to go to the local $5 store. And that's odd because I typically don't go there. But we'll see if it can happen.

Garlic and ramps are ordered. I'm debating onion sets. I wasbloojing at Dixondale but they won't ship in time.

I think I'm changing my mind about the bed the squash was in. The bugs won't mess with garlic. It will only need a light frost cover. Not for frost, but to keep the squirrels out.

I'm debating pre-prepping two of the beds for early spring. But I'm going to let the back brain percolate on that some.

I think I'm going to have to order 4" pots. Or ask a friend to run by the greenhouse store the next time he goes home. There's a pile of herbs I want to start for spring. I can fill the pots, set them with water bottles between, cover with frost covers and leaves, and let nature do its stuff in the spring.

Evenings and early mornings feel like Fall here but otherwise is still very hot! Continue to preserve food. Shelled first mess of zipper peas yesterday. Planted late trying to spread out harvest and it worked! Have had a steady harvest rather than a deluge. My sweet aunt is quickly following my uncle to walk the streets of gold. Hospice started yesterday.

We got the truck to the repair shop yesterday. He must be good or he would not make a living in his location. Way out of town and then 4 miles on a dirt road. If you meet another car, one has to pull over to let the other by.

I got a canner of peas done. I could only get 8 wide mouth pints to fit instead of 9. I have enough shelled for another canner run and there are probably more out there to pick.

Hubby cut hay on Tuesday while I wrangled grandkids. Then yesterday it was ready to bale. We never know how much we are going to end up making. This field I think the most from years past was about 220. We baled 260 yesterday and aren't even done. I hope there is enough on the ground to make 90 more bales. I have customers for that much. If not, we will finish them up when we cut the next 2 fields. And one of yesterday's customers wants 35 more bales when we cut again. I would like a few more bales in the barn too. All that extra hay we sold will go toward the truck repair. Such a blessing.

We were told Farm Bureau will be raising rates in October. I am really not surprised. There have been lots of claims for storm damage on homes and vehicles. We did a couple on our home. One for hail damage to our roof and then the lightening strike on the house.

Time to get busy. Have a good day everyone.

Still no word from the guy that's going to cut our tree. He said he was really backed up, but Cary will call him again next week to see where we stand on his schedule. I really do want it down and the yard cleaned while it's still so dry. That way, all their heavy machinery won't mar up in my yard. They will fix it if they make a mess out of the yard, but I hate messes.

Today will be another cleaning day for me. I plan to tackle the bathroom cabinets and the pie safe we use for shelves in the bathroom. I cleaned and scrubbed the bathtub and tile walls, yesterday. Next, I'm going to clean out the fridge. It needs a good cleaning, too. Hopefully, a very productive day.

Fall is in the air! We didn't even turn on the ac, yesterday. Only used the floor fan last night. I love these cool crisp mornings!
