The only thing I’ve purchased lately was some rye flour to try out once I’ve settled on a bread recipe. I love rye bread but I’ve never baked any (or much of any bread). We went to a new to us Amish store this past week that I’ve been wanting to check out. I thought from things I’d seen on Facebook that it was a much larger one than the place we go to a few times a year but it really wasn’t much difference and our usual one has more to choose from, plus they make a delicious sweet and smoky wrap. DH, DD2 and granddaughter found plenty of candy they wanted to try out. It was the day before Valentine’s day so the grandkids made out like bandits.
I‘m still doing my own version of a pantry challenge again this month, not buying much except for some fresh produce, bread and a little dairy. Also using up lots of freezer items and doing my best not to let anything go to waste. DH did buy 2 Kentucky Legend hams for the freezer that a local store put on sale for $15.00 each, no matter the size and still well within date. The store also had a great price on fresh blueberries too so I had him pick up a few packs for granddaughter, but guess what? She didn’t like blueberries this past week or the grapes that DH got a Sam’s. You never know from one day to the next what that child will love or hate on any particular day!
I made a batch of yogurt with milk that was close to date, made a fruit compote of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry mix that was getting somewhat icy in the freezer and used my last cranberry salad bought on a really good sale from Kroger to flavor a couple of quarts of the yogurt. I still have more of the compote and will mix that with the rest of the yogurt as that is DH’s favorite (and it’s so much cheaper than store bought and healthier).
I bought a new bag of mixed berries at Costco a week or so ago since i knew I was almost done with one, then I found another bag of raspberries, strawberries and cherries that appears to have been in there awhile. Hopefully it will still be useable. I can tell I’m finally making a dent in the two upright freezers but it seems like it’s been a long time coming. They are terribly unorganized and until I get them more emptied out, it can’t be done, but boy do I have plans!
My hair was probably close to waist length last November when I had it cut a little shorter than shoulder length, ahhh, it felt so much better and lighter. My hair is straight but thick, and because of the thickness it was too hard to wear it braided so it was all over the place while sleeping. DH would be on it, my shoulder would be on it and it was always in my face and around my neck. Not to mention the time it took to wash, rinse and comb out, I always just let mine air dry beca blow drying wore me out. I had it cut again a few weeks ago and I really like it so much better. It‘s just a basic one length cut and I use a clip to pull the sides up to the crown of my head (I despise having my hair touch my face). Works well for me.
