Hair. The eternal problem for me. I have thick hair that is curly underneath. . I don't like to fuss with my hair. Sometimes I let it grow and pull back in a low ponytail. But not too long or it gets too heavy and hurts my neck.I have, however, decided to just wear it in low ponytail from now on and be done with it. A few hot rollers and I am good to go. I have learned to cut my bangs satisfactorily. Not sure if I could cut length.
Unlike SB, I started going gray early like my Dads sister. When I was younger people people thought it was some kind of special frosting technique. Nope, just genetics.

I have very straight, fine, and thin hair. So, for me, pulled back in a long ponytail or done into a bun works just right for me. If it was short, I would have to use a lot of styling gels and hair products to hold the style I'm shooting for. It would be like concrete it would be so stiff. BTDT. I gave that up a long time ago when my shoulders started giving me fits.

Last year I thought about selling my property with the provision we could live here until we die. DH and I got in a rare arguement about what to do with the money. I said cash in the house and he was all for putting it in the bank, plus he had ideas about spending it. I changed my mind, in the long run its my property and what I do with it is my decision. Ex had all kinds of ideas about it and thought he was entitled to part of it. It was a give from a family member and he was not entitled to any of it. As good as DH is we have different ideas about money. He doesn't think its wise to keep cash and as far as I'm concerned he's wrong. I've had to be misleading about what I have in cash and where it is. Not that he would take it but its not his business. We have been married 10 wonderful years and we agreed to keep our money separate.

Cary and I have always agreed about our money. The only problem, he trusted banks too much. I've always tried to get him to withdraw the money from our savings account and keep it here at home after it got to a certain amount. Keep very little in the savings account like we do with our checking account. He wouldn't go along with that idea. So, now........Gone. I don't really like the idea of having so much cash here, either, but what do you do?

I don't blame him with what happened, though. I was caught up in all of this as much as he was. I went along with it every step of the way, too.

When the banking rules changed, making OUR money into THEIR money as soon as you deposit it, I lost all trust in keeping irreplaceable funds in them. I think the most important factor in being able to keep cash (or metals) at home is TELLING NO ONE. And I DO mean *no one*!

If you have adult children, leave a letter in a "if I'm dead" envelope, and keep it with your will, living will, etc.

And for God's sake, pretend like you never have more than a few bucks in cash! If a tradesman doesn't want a check, tell him you'll have to go to the ATM to get cash out. So many older people have been robbed after they retrieved cash from a back bedroom or whatever, while a salesperson or whatever was waiting at the door.

Once it's known you have cash, you've opened yourselves to home invasion, where they often will beat or torture you to force you to reveal the location.

A secure safe, especially if set in concrete in a well camouflaged spot will help protect you in case of a random burglary or fire, but only if no one knows there's something to look for.

Sherree, I'm praying that there will be some way you can recover your funds. It makes me sick that scumbags can take money your worked all your life for, and feel absolutely no remorse. We'll be praying for the best possible outcome.

It could have been a lot worse, Summerthyme. Remember, we paid cash for our new SUV last year from our savings account. Imagine if that money were still in there. We would have lost a lot more than we did. At least, us buying the SUV drew the amount down some. We were in the process of replacing it when this happened.

No one, except our oldest DS knows what all we have here. He is our heir to everything, so Cary wanted him and only him to know. Even he doesn't know any amounts.

I thought about your recent car purchase, and gave thanks to God that you'd done that before the hack. It's wonderful that you're handling it as you are... blame and "should haves" are useless after the fact..

I really do want to say something, because of the ongoing discussion on "main" in a certain thread.

We had 3 antivirus devices running on our computers at the time we were hacked. Microsoft antivirus software, Trend antivirus software, and we pay LifeLock $600 a year for their services to keep us protected. So, it's not like we were ignorant about what we needed to do to stay protected. Most of the time, when folks don't know the details, they need to keep their mouths closed when judging other people. How were we supposed to know that wasn't enough for this type of attack?

The scary part is that with all the protection we had, the virus still got through. We have added even more protection, now.

SB I haven't read anything on the main, I skip a lot that is there.

I have found that when ever I open up about something there are going to be naysayers, there is always going to be some push back. Best thing to do is try to ignore it and if its someone truly being an ass I put them on ignore so I don't have to see their crap.

FYI -- Social Security funds that have not been co-mingled with other funds cannot be garnished by creditors. The only exceptions being child support, student loans and some federal taxes. We used to advise clients to have SS deposited into a savings account and then transfer funds to checking as needed. If they were already under garnishment, to take money in cash and use money orders to pay bills. We were dealing with people filing bankruptcy, but it holds true to anyone dealing with collections. We had an increasing number of clients on SS in the later years I was working. I retired 11 years ago. If you find yourself in such a situation, open a new savings account for SS and remind the bank SS cannot be garnished. I would double check with SS to make sure that rule is still in force.

Never ever give any banking information to anyone PERIOD. Guard your private information as much as you can. BTW it ticks me off that I have to give a picture ID and insurance information to be seen by a doctor and the illegals don't.

My hair came out "OK." Not great but not horrible, either. At least I now have my summer cut and it's even all around, over my ears, and it's a "comb and go" style. No more having to mess with the blow dryer, unless I just want to dry it off a bit before I go outside.

I've got to find someone cheaper, though. I'll keep asking around. Yes, a lot of women in Iowa keep their hair longer because there are so many terrible, expensive stylists. I'm just not dealing well with long hair! It's thick, coarse, and silver. I really think that it looks better short, just not Marine short, and no fades for me. Ugh! I hate those. It's like having a thick, coarse bird's nest on my head and then no hair on the sides of my head. Too cold for winter!

Fish fry at the K of C, so I'm headed out in a minute. The fish is excellent right now! I'm taking advantage of it.

Iowa is known for beef and pork, not fish, LOL!

Now that you have a "style" you're comfortable with, going to someone else and asking for a trim should result in having about the same cut. Might have to go a bit sooner to be sure to get the "same style."

Well... the no new things held until today. I'm glad I got that long. And I had to point out to boss that I can't handle 5 high maintenance clients for stem to stern, and take over all accounts payables, and then also take over doing the setup and cleanup for all new clients. Oh, and auditing other employee work to try to catch errors. And teach them how to fix them. At least, not without time to work out a solid system. Dumping it all on me at once is not a way to make that happen successfully. And all within a month is the same as all at once.

But, bonus, the two highest maintenance clients are both very, very happy with me and how organized I've gotten them. And the way that has translated into fewer customer issues and more money in the bank. I didn't even know the one knew my name. But this week he specifically asked if I was tracking a couple of things. And both he and boss were thrilled that I was tracking something else that they wanted the information on. And thank heavens I was because otherwise it would have been hours building that report.

I went out today and discovered that the garlic is thriving. And while the onions aren't thriving quite as much, they are doing well.

The body is healing. One of the wound fake skin covers came off today. I was going to leave it alone but it looked like it was going to stretch in a not good way. So I used a layer of bactine skin over it. And then I crisscrossed a set of butterfly bandages over it. Hopefully that will be enough support until it is more stable. They haven't healed to the surface level enough for me to start using Wound Heal on it. And I don't want to accidentally trap that crud under my skin.

I'm truly hoping for a calm and peaceful weekend with lots of good rest.

Sherree - catching up to the thread. I am so very sorry thid happened to you and Cary. It is absolutely sickening.

Thank you. We've learned, finally, a very valuable and costly lesson out of this........Do NOT trust banks with your money. If it's not in your hand, you don't own it. I don't care if you have used your bank for 50 yrs.

We're still working on this mess, today, but we're beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as getting everything switched over to the new account. So many phone calls have been made, and only a few more to go. Cary is redoing all of our antivirus protections, too. Upgrading everything. Reinstalling all of our apps on the new computers. It takes a lot of time to do everything, and he gets frustrated a lot. That gets me frustrated, but it's all working out. We're getting our appetites back, but I'm still having severe migraines from the stress of it all.

It's turned cold on us, again. 33 degrees right now. Supposed to get down to 23, tonight. It looks like Spring is on hold for the time being. It rained all night, too. Nothing has to be done outside. Cary has all spring and summer to work on the woodpile. I checked on my walking onions, yesterday, and they are thriving. I haven't checked the garlic bed, yet.
.
DS's MIL is moving into her new apartment, today and tomorrow. I was so afraid that they would want us to help her move. We just aren't in the frame of mind to do it, nor do we have the time. Hopefully, we can get all the mess finished tomorrow that can be done on our end. We have dentist and doctor appointments starting on Tuesday, so we're hoping to get it all finished by then.

My oldest cat caught two mice last night. I think one was one that we've been trying to catch for a while. This is why I can't put down poison. My cats will end up poisoned. That leaves the attic one. When I can do it, I'm going at some spots with steel wool and rodent foam.

The cloches and wire baskets I ordered have arrived. The plastic on the cloches is thinner than I prefer but not brittle. So it should hold.

The one spot completely lost its dermabond last night. So I took my butterfly bandages and crisscrossed them around it to hold. With a layer or two, or three, of Bactine directly on it.

I had insomnia last night so I didn't get to bed until almost 2. And son was not accepting sleeping in today. So I'm likely going to nap this afternoon.

I did some light cleaning this morning. I don't really have the energy for much. So it was just slowly walking through and finding all the random things. And grabbing the kitchen and bathroom stuff.

I may get the new bathroom door curtains up today.

I got myself a gift. I got a ceiling mount curtain track. My house is one of thebokd style where you pass from room to room. No hallway. Normally I can deal with that. But I really don't like that my room is exposed to anyone needing to use the bathroom or get in the attic. So the track will curve to hold a set of curtains across my room entry. I found a nice forest print set.

One room at a time, I'm going to replace blinds with curtains. And I think I'm going to custom make/fit black out covers for each window. I found some on Amazon but they use velcro. And I can see that leaving gaps. I think I'll make pockets for magnet strips. My brain is playing with ideas to make them look like normal views from outside in.

Friend's furnace called it quits during ice week. He's trying to figure it out. He has no problems with layering up. And due to his work schedule, he's actually awake during the coldest hours. I have told him that he is welcome to use my heaters if he wants them. But he's being stubborn at the moment. I have the company coming to do the twice yearly check next week. It's struggling. But it's more effective and quicker if they find it then if I call them about it specifically. Lesson learned in the past.

It's gotten colder here too, and it was 72 yesterday. Overcast, but sun back in a day or so.

Day before yesterday I did the inversion table twice and was pain free, yesterday I woke up with pain in my hips. I did the inversion table only once and was in awful pain and nothing I took helped. Even the Lidocaine patches didn't help but they may be old, I need to check the box.

This morning my pain is much less. Maybe I over did the inversion table, I'm not as young as I use to be and routinely forget that. so my plan today is only once and for 2-3 minutes instead of 5-6.

My young friend, the one with the 7 children, came by yesterday to give us some fresh milk and yogurt. I think I will put the milk in the freezer and contemplate making cottage cheese from it. I'll give the yogurt a try today, will have to add something to it though, but I'll try it plain first. I had already started a box for her, Morgan. But didn't have food, we get commodities in a week or two. I gave her several books, and anthology of herbs, a three or four cook books from yesteryear. Mrs. Beetons was one, Morgan likes things from days gone by, so she will enjoy those books. She was particularly excited to get a copy of Middlemarch. I gave her a copy of the Encyclopedia of Country living several years ago, at one of her baby showers. I noticed that I had three manual egg beaters so I put one of those in one of the boxes, she loved it.

Not only have I had migraines all week, but my whole body is stiff and I hurt all over. I'm guessing it's from all the stress. Because of what's been going on, I haven't been able to go for my walks in the afternoon, unless you count all the walking we did for a couple of days in downtown Tupelo. Once the weather warms up again, I'll begin my afternoon walks again. I really need the walks. It helped so much with my back pain, while I was doing them.

Good on you, Judy, for helping out your young friend. I'm sure she and her whole family appreciate what you do for them.

I just wanted to pop in and express how genuinely horrified and heart sick I am to read of what you and Cary are dealing with right now. Obviously you've had my sincere prayers, and I'm going to try to make this horrible situation serve as a warning to me to try to get abetter handle on the issue, so I thank you for potentially saving me from some pain by sharing your experience.

I'm also so glad and relieved to remind myself how well you've stewarded your resources over the years, so I know your pantry and apothecary's are full, and your faith strong, so you'll be led safely through this valley.

Finally, all the canning mess is cleared up, washed up and put away. Things were so greasy that I had to wash them twice. Canning meat is much messier than veggies! I have a lot of canned chicken so guess that will be the main meat featured in a SHTF situation. I need to make a point of using it every other week to do a better job of rotating.

Today was the monthly Women's Prayer Breakfast at the church. Usually, the men clean up, but they had a meeting somewhere, so washed dishes. Then came home and washed more dishes! Glad it's done.

I stopped at the grocery store after the breakfast and ran into a friend from the church we attended years ago. I hadn't seen her for years, so it was a nice surprise and we visited for a while. When we attended church together they were newly married and starting their family. That first "baby" is now a teacher and coach at the high school and recently made her a grandmother, so it's been a long while!

I used a devil's food cake mix to make cookies. This time the recipe called for 1/4 cup butter, but I used oil. I never have margarine in the house. They turned out okay but next time I will not put in a full cup of the white chocolate chips, maybe 2/3 or at most 3/4 cup. I have silicone mats, so I don't have to grease pans (or wash them!). However, I've discovered that when I use the mats, I need to increase baking time.

nomifye, you are such a good friend and mentor for your young friend. There have been many times in my life that I would have loved having such a friend and mentor. I have one "young" friend (she's 61!), that I'm mentoring on various issues she's dealing with. I can only pray that it helps her. I'm always careful to tell her that my suggestions and advice are just that and I will not be offended if she chooses not to follow them.

I also have been battling the COVID hair thing and the long hair thing.
..a few days ago I was so tired of hair being pulled in sleep, when I wear the once below hip length stuff down, that I got up and cut off a few inches.

Only when I awoke completely did I see it was a rough job, and only after the stylist reminded me that it was VD and love me dearly or not, it would be hard to squeeze me in an already overbooked schedule, did I realize what an oopsie I'd made...
Normally I wear my hair up in a crazy, messy up/down do, with as many curls down as up- but I try to be more professional during the day- but had to curl all the odds and ends and arrange em with a fine tooth comb, pun intended, to hide my mistakes.
To add insult to injury, I'm doing the COVID recovery hair regrowth stages too, and I've got a bunch of 2-3 inch stuff that is standing straight up off my head as it goes thru it's "awkward stage".

To make a long story short. Man did I look a mess lol. Fortunately pity was taken and the professionals fixed my mistakes and let me off with a gentle warning- feeling I'd suffered enough, I guess.

Ya'll don't have any idea how many times I've had to call up my hair stylist for help after making a mess out of my hair. I, once, was putting a new color on my hair, and it turned out to be a bright purple. I have no clue as to how it happened, either. I wasn't shooting for purple at all. I was horrified! We laughed it off, but she was able to fix it for me. This was back before all the crazy colored hair people came about.

I always sleep with mine in a loose and low ponytail, or I get tangled up in it. Cary, too, or he's laying on it.

I'm just glad my hair is short again, and one quick comb-through set it to rights when I got up this morning. There really wasn't time for a shower and blow dry.

I have been on the go all day! Went to the mechanic first thing for an oil change and brake work, and then to about a dozen stores for various items and errands.

Knock on wood, the spring / summer supply pantry (items other than food) is almost all re-stocked. I've probably forgotten some small and stupid things, but I think the bulk of it is now here and put away. I'm working on several
house projects this summer, including some outdoor seating. I have most of those materials.

I'm bushed! I'm reheating a pork chop and rice for dinner.

I feel blessed to have this young (about 30) friend and all her beautiful children, she has a good hardworking husband. They are very responsible. And its a blessing she is receptive to the things I share with her. Next week is commodities week so we will have more food to go her way.

I had a dress that belonged to my mother in the 50's, she was very slim and it would never have fit me, I'm big boned and built like my daddy's german family. I thought about it while they were here and ran in the house and grabbed (miracle that I knew where it was). I told the girls who ever is tallest gets it first. The oldest girl said I am and grabbed the dress. I think the fabric is gaberdine with white pipping. My mother did love pretty clothes. She was from that generation that could sew where the inside looked as beautiful as the outside. Not me the outside of the garments I made looked fine but the inside was rough.

I am going through menopause hair issues. It's thinning out. I have always had long hair and that's not likely to change. And so far, it isn't graying. I'm a redhead and have been warned that it will go a yellow gray. My grandmother didn't have grey show up until her 70s.

Anyways, I normally wear pony tails or braids. And at night it goes up over the pillow so I don't end up laying on it.

I don't trim it. And I don't trust hairdressers to do it because somehow they always end up taking it back to my shoulders. From my hips.

I got a nap in. That was helpful. Son napped as well. He woke up in a much better mood. He came in a gave hugs. And almost accidentally pulled me off the bed. But grins the whole time.

I got the long curtains up for the bathroom door. Just that was surprisingly tiring. And today the stuff for my bedroom arrived. But that's likely a few weeks from getting done.

I've been starting to deal with the little things. Today wall mount shoe racks arrived for son's room. They'll go behind his door where he currently piles up his shoes. This will help with that mess.

His new curtains are here. But his rod is actually screwed into the mounts. So that's a switch out that will require a friend's help. Metal tie backs did not survive him. I think I'd need cast iron ones for that. So for now, I got the magnetic loops and I'll teach him how to use them. A simple heavy duty cup hook can hold them back.

The only thing I’ve purchased lately was some rye flour to try out once I’ve settled on a bread recipe. I love rye bread but I’ve never baked any (or much of any bread). We went to a new to us Amish store this past week that I’ve been wanting to check out. I thought from things I’d seen on Facebook that it was a much larger one than the place we go to a few times a year but it really wasn’t much difference and our usual one has more to choose from, plus they make a delicious sweet and smoky wrap. DH, DD2 and granddaughter found plenty of candy they wanted to try out. It was the day before Valentine’s day so the grandkids made out like bandits.

I‘m still doing my own version of a pantry challenge again this month, not buying much except for some fresh produce, bread and a little dairy. Also using up lots of freezer items and doing my best not to let anything go to waste. DH did buy 2 Kentucky Legend hams for the freezer that a local store put on sale for $15.00 each, no matter the size and still well within date. The store also had a great price on fresh blueberries too so I had him pick up a few packs for granddaughter, but guess what? She didn’t like blueberries this past week or the grapes that DH got a Sam’s. You never know from one day to the next what that child will love or hate on any particular day!

I made a batch of yogurt with milk that was close to date, made a fruit compote of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry mix that was getting somewhat icy in the freezer and used my last cranberry salad bought on a really good sale from Kroger to flavor a couple of quarts of the yogurt. I still have more of the compote and will mix that with the rest of the yogurt as that is DH’s favorite (and it’s so much cheaper than store bought and healthier).

I bought a new bag of mixed berries at Costco a week or so ago since i knew I was almost done with one, then I found another bag of raspberries, strawberries and cherries that appears to have been in there awhile. Hopefully it will still be useable. I can tell I’m finally making a dent in the two upright freezers but it seems like it’s been a long time coming. They are terribly unorganized and until I get them more emptied out, it can’t be done, but boy do I have plans!

My hair was probably close to waist length last November when I had it cut a little shorter than shoulder length, ahhh, it felt so much better and lighter. My hair is straight but thick, and because of the thickness it was too hard to wear it braided so it was all over the place while sleeping. DH would be on it, my shoulder would be on it and it was always in my face and around my neck. Not to mention the time it took to wash, rinse and comb out, I always just let mine air dry beca blow drying wore me out. I had it cut again a few weeks ago and I really like it so much better. It‘s just a basic one length cut and I use a clip to pull the sides up to the crown of my head (I despise having my hair touch my face). Works well for me.

I never use brushes on my hair...I have collected vintage Japanese boxwood combs..the new one are outrageous in price...but the old vintage ones are so smooth...and can be had for not at lot. ..look for smooth teeth and no breaks
they don't pull and break your hair and you clean them with good fine oil...never water...they are generational.

Been a peaceful slow day and I am grateful for it.

My homemade FitBit band broke today. I was about to order some jewelry making pieces and modify some things. But then brain popped a solution to try first. I'll see if it holds. If not, friend offered to modify one of my chain link bands for it. And attached my malachite and rose beads. We'll see what happens.

Friend has been watching over me. He was kind of annoyed that I worked this week. He wanted me to take another week off. Or at least two more full days. He really doesn't understand that I would have gone stir crazy.

On the flip side, he's been calling every morning to make sure I was okay. And that I was awake to work if I was going to.

Maybe I'll get some laundry and cleaning done tomorrow.
