We are at 32, feels like 25. I'm testing out the new thermal legging and socks. Socks aren't worth crud. But the thermals seem to be working okay for now. The body is definitely running hot though. Just went out in that with an open jacket, hat, no gloves and was almost too warm.
But I can work with this. For others the thermals would probably not be warm enough. For me they are just enough to not trigger an overheat in the house.
Kerosene jug is full. First time I've seen red kerosene in a while. Might have to go to my old place. I'll pay the $1.50/gallon more if they're still selling clear from the pump. But for now, we are set.
I put the wintershield covers on the windshield and mirrors. That way, if I do have to go somewhere, I shouldn't have to scrape. Because if I have to go somewhere it's likely to be because of an emergency and scraping will take time I may not have.
I had forgotten about frozen doors. I may have to climb in through the rear and heat the van up if that's a problem. I haven't really found a better solution for that.
Another friend is coming for a bag of clothes. I'm already building a new thrift pile. The section I'm working on now is mainly sewing and knitting projects. But I have some other things that need doing today so this likely will be work on again during the week.
Son has found his go bag and keeps exploring what he can reach without pulling it out of its spot. I keep finding random toys set down on the shelf near it. I definitely need to order the zippers and do the pattern design to make some bags that fit the space better. But it is mainly him being more aware as his headaches decrease and wanting to explore. The old "I'm bored" issue. I just have to figure out where to redirect that energy to.
Anyways, going to drink my allowed dose of morning caffeine and then get moving on the rest of today's work.
I haven't tried it yet but you can buy Wendy's chili canned now.At 11 PM, -6 with wind chill of-21 degrees.
I had to get out around 7:30. My wife wanted some Wendy's chili. She has been sick for three days. She is finally starting to get better. She caught a cold from her youngest son. He caught it at the hospital where our daughter was having surgery. Dang hospitals are full of sick people. Anyway no problems getting around. Just too cotton picking cold. Plenty of food in the house, but my wife wanted chili. Neither one of can stand any of the canned chilis on the market. I treated myself to some broccoli beef on fried rice from the pseudo-Chinese place two door down from Wendy;s. We both got Frosties.
I'm not looking forward to our electric bill either. We are in a hard freeze for a couple of days and may see some relief on Wednesday at 41. I've got the furnace set on 68 and it just keeps on running. I hate to see the electric bill.
Hope your eye is better, SB.
It will, SB. Just keep it clean and follow any other instructions. That's great! It's healing slowly. All the swelling is gone, but it's still red around the bite marks. It still itches and burns like crazy. I took some Benadryl last night to stop the itch enough that I could go to sleep. All the necrotic tissue came off in the shower this morning. It left a big hole in my eyebrow. I hope that will fill back in, in time.
I made a meatloaf yesterday using a new recipe, and put panko in it. This is the first time, ever, that I made a meatloaf that I did not like, yuck. DH did not complain so go for it. I need to make another pot of soup.
The rain and sleet held off until just a few minutes ago, coming down pretty steady. DH has already brought in a good supply of wood, but we do go through it. Good thing he has a good supply already cut.
Its cold. I had the oven on to cook the meatloaf longer and the kitchen was warm enough for me to get some things cleaned up. I'm trying to make hay while the sun shines, old expression. Get it done while we have power and water.
We don't need to go any where and don't need anything. We are blessed.
I don't care if it falls apart, although DH would complain. I just don't like the taste. But he's eating it.My meatloaves are always a hit or miss. Using the same recipe, sometimes it will still fall apart into a mush. Still tastes good, and Cary doesn't complain when it happens, but I don't make meatloaf often, because of that.
It's still sleeting and snowing here. We are being warned of possible power outages due to ice accumulations. Cary just refilled both firewood racks in the house. He does it big, so he only has to do it once in a 24 hr. period. Our overnight low is going to be 13* with real feel at 3*.
There is no where we need to go, and we're stocked to the brim. I have a dentist appt. next Monday, but until then, we're staying put.
They make firewood racks that are basically like big book ends that slide onto 2x4s it's what we have. It's nice because you can cut the 2x4s to the length that you have room for, and also because you can just take them apart and store them easily in the summer.I don't care if it falls apart, although DH would complain. The wintery mix didn't last long, may get a little more later. DH brings his wood in in 5 gallon buckets, no where to stack it here in the house. Its in the 20's outside and 72 here in my office. Its warm enough that I've taken my robe off.
Still working in the kitchen off and on, I've made tremendous strides, but still some to go. I've got ground meat cooked and I'm pretty sure I'm going to start a pot of vegetable soup.
Thanks, its a space issue, the buckets are working just fine. They make firewood racks that are basically like big book ends that slide onto 2x4s it's what we have. If your issue is that you have carpeting you don't want to stack wood on, or get filled up with sawdust and chips where you put the rack then just get a cheap 4x8 tarp and fold it in half lengthwise and put it down to stack on.
If you're just a bit tight on cash right now the cheapest way would be to spend $5 on the tarp and stack on it crosshatching the ends to keep it squared up and tied together.
And for those of you heating with electric I feel for you. It never really feels warm and it's by far the most expensive way to heat your house. Hopefully this cold snap doesn't last too long.

Making a bunch of trips with buckets would suck and if it's slippery out the less trips the less chance of a fall.
