I have a hatred of wasting food. So I'm trying to figure out how to rescue some of the items that the delivery driver let overheat in her vehicle.

The frozen pizzas are toast. I could save one by cooking it immediately. I can't eat 4 pizzas so the others are a loss.

The cheese got too hot. It was warm to touch, not even cool. Friends got it in the fridge immediately but I'm honestly not sure. I'm debating running the cheese slices through the dehydrator for snacks. But I'm not sure on that either.

I absolutely hate waste and this was so wasteful. And wasteful of food, something that is becoming so expensive.

Other than that, the day has been decent. I finished work early. I have gotten most of the groceries put away. Son is thrilled that he has Sparkling Ice to drink again. And I'm going to try to get to bed at a decent hour tonight.

I heard from friend and she got to bring her SO home this evening. Now she is is just figuring things out, and he is sleeping and getting caught up on the sleep that doesn't happen in the hospital.

It's not optimal, but you could cook all the pizzas, then freeze them in packs of however many slices you'd use for various quick "heat and eat" snack.

The hard cheeses, I'd just refrigerate and plan on using quickly... homemade Mac and cheese, cheese quiche omelets heavy on the cheese. Cheese is acidic, and it's rare for bacteria to survive on the surface. Unless they were cross contaminated by being cut with a knife used for raw chicken or something, they are highly unlikely to pose any danger.

I hear you on hating waste! Fortunately, in our situation, there are many four-leggeds who can take care of "iffy" food items. Most of which we eventually eat, in a different form!

The cheese isn't block. It is slices. But it remained sealed. In light of that, I may repack it in smaller bags to be pulled as I need it, and will consume within a few days after defrosting. It'll be easier to find freezer space that way as well.

I'll consider the option for the pizza. The problem is I no longer have a microwave. So I'll have to consider how to reheat it. Since they are keto cauliflower crust pizzas, that might work. They stay moister than regular pizza.

I'm still stunned that someone thought it was okay to leave frozen and dairy in her vehicle in 90+ degree weather. For an hour and a half.

I won't even do that in coolers unless the AC is running. And I say that because my typical grocery run takes about 2 hours. But I don't turn the car off, frozen is packed in the cooler, cool is put in a cold pack. And I even have a small styrofoam cooler that is the exact size for a rotisserie chicken, the one hot thing we typical buy.

Yeah, that takes a special type of stupid (combined with lazy and just not giving a damn!) to do that! If there is a contact e-mail, I think I'd follow up and mention just how stupidly dangerous her actions were. She needs to find a different job.. picking up garbage from the highway or something!

Oh I did. I made sure that they knew that it wasn't just my order. There was at least one more order in her backseat in the same condition.

Per the CS personnel she was placed on a permanent ban from ever delivering to me again. And a temp ban on Insta until they have a chance to review the report. Hopefully someone has some common sense.

Yes, I was going to say what Summer did. There are so many preservatives in food nowadays, prob be good. Or the chickens can have it.
Krysyan, there are a lot of us out there who gave up the flight and just stand and fight! You put it so well though.

Before all my hubs medical, I had put in 3 small gardens. I also had an old canopy that the cloth piece tore up and was gone. I put that in one of the garden and started cukes under each leg. My daughter said they are climbing the legs well. Made a good trellis.
My gardens are smaller then hers. I put in all kinds of stuff and it was coming up good when we left. Sure hope to get home and harvest it!

Sherre I can't even wrap my head around heat like that! 120 wow! I don't know if you can even cool a small room down with ac in those Temps. Please be careful both you and Cary.

It usually doesn't get this hot until mid-July and August which are normally our hottest months. We have set records in the past of around 125. When it's this hot, there isn't much going on anywhere. Even the public pools and beaches aren't crowded. It's just too dangerous even in the water. Imagine taking a wet washcloth and putting it over your nose and mouth and trying to breathe through it! That's what it's like down here.

We have one small window ac unit in the laundry room window. It cools our whole house, since it's an open floor design, and our house is very small. It's easy to heat and cool.

Cary is planning to mow this morning if he doesn't change his mind. We have rain in our forecast for this afternoon and all next week. Heat index today is only supposed to be 112. He has plenty of Gatorade in the fridge to cool off with. I made a quick run to the gardens this morning and picked a bucket of banana peppers. I'll be making more pickled banana pepper rings. The gardens are still holding up well in spite of the heat.

The pressure shifts from the weather that is causing the heat, followed by storms, are really triggering son's migraines. I've already gone to one level of migraine med above OTC. If it doesn't work in the next half hour or so, I'm going to pull out the big guns.

I overslept. Even slept through the light. Probably because I gave myself mental permission to do so. I'm going to do lawn tomorrow or Monday morning. Probably tomorrow. For today, I'm taking care of more house stuff. I still have a pile of things to handle, including getting a roast in the crockpot. Although I haven't decided whether it will be pork carnitas or just regular roast yet.

Even with the A/C keeping the house cool, the heat just seems to be oppressive. But I need to head out now, while it's still cooler, and water the plants that the soaker hoses don't reach.

When go shopping farther away ...we often stop at several stores... cause you can't get everything at one place...
When it is hot we take coolers for the frozen and cold things...I have several of the blue ice that we put in them....if you haven't tried blue ice it works like a champ...keeping things frozen..while me make various stops..worth its weight in gold so they say...

We do the same if I'm going to be grocery shopping while out and about. A small cooler and one of those large cooler bags (I got it at Sam's) that keep things cold or frozen. We also use those blue ice bricks in both. It works great for us even in our heat.

My food chopper+ came this morning. I love, love, love it! Thanks for the advice, Summerthyme. My meatloaf pan didn't come. Info said it will be Monday for it.

Cary just sent off another order for 5 more of the Jack Reacher book series. Too hot to do anything outside this summer, so might as well read under the ac. He did manage to get the yard all mowed this morning.

I love the Jack Reacher books, I have them all, maybe I should reread them. I'm having a hard time finding something to hold my interest.

Cary had already ordered the first 5 books in the series. He finished the last book a couple of days ago. He liked them so well that he ordered the next 5. He'll probably wind up with the whole series, eventually.

My reading comes in spells. A book has to really hold my attention from the beginning, or I'll not finish it. I haven't been in a reading mood, lately, other than here on the forum, and there are days, like today, where nothing interests me here, at least on "main".

I hear ya Sherree, I don't see much here to interest me lately. And I'm the same way with books. I bought one of RoseRed's e books and started to print it and got bored with it.

It took me years to read Alas Babalon. And when I finally started reading it I could not put it down.

May I please have a volunteer to start the thread tomorrow - youngest Grandson's birthday party is tomorrow and I'm in charge of making up treat bags, picking up the ice cream cake, drinks, etc.... I'll have so much running through my head that I'm afraid I'll forget all about the Prep Thread.
