Here is another video from the Serbian woman. Its an amazing (to me) bread. Sherree your DDIL would probably love it.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrMc4SqjhOo&t=630s

17.14 min.

I'm tempted to try it, I have all of the ingredients. It would save me a lot of money on bread, the bread I eat is around 6.00 +.

The Atomic bread doesn't look appealing to me at all. It's not something I would eat. DDIL won't eat any type of bread including Ezekiel bread. I doubt she would eat it, either. Thanks for the video, though.

I like to shop, but I rarely do anymore. Walmart quit delivering a lot of things over a year ago, things I got delivered regularly. Its been a long time since I've been in sams. The main thing I bought there was Perrier, plain in glass bottles, they had the best prices, I love that stuff. But I rarely drink it anymore because Nestle bought them out. Its great for indegestion. Mineral water was a daily treat for me, but not in a good while.

DH has some chicken salad for his first meal and church is having hamburger steaks for supper, yay, no cooking for me today except for what I eat.

LOL, I knew it would not be to your taste, and your DDIL is smart not to eat bread. Since I changed my eating habits I am eating a slice of ezekiel every day. It is a seriously acquired taste, but I did that years and years ago. I don't know anyone else that would eat it except my dear brother and even my ex developed a taste for it, don't have a clue if he still eats it though.

To me the Atomic bread would be very healthy, but that's me.

The only sliced breads we like are German pumpernickel, Jewish rye, and whole wheat. No white bread at all. Although, dinner rolls (usually whole wheat), cornbread, and biscuits are on our plates quite often. Everything in moderation is also a healthy choice, unless you have to be on a special needs diet where certain foods are a "no go".

When we first married we rented a townhome and had small garden out back...it was all clay so we improved the soil but it wouldn't grow with county water we had.....I had an Uncle who lived not far away....who had well and we went to his house to get water....we think it was the chloride in the water....since then we have found out the if the water is drawn and let to set .....a lot of the chloride will disapate in the air....might help with your community water if it is treated.

Yes. I think it's the chlorine in the water that the gardens don't like. So, if we fill outdoor tubs with chlorinated water and let it set, it will be ok to use? I didn't know that. We're not close to running out of our rain catchment water, yet, but with this heat, we're having to use it about every 3 days on the gardens if there is no rain.

Don't think your garden will love it but it will improve your water
lot ..even if you are drinking it letting sit in an open pitcher on the counter for day will improve it...for you...the last house (back in 1998) we had before this one had had chlorine in the water... sometimes it was stronger than other times... don't know if they put other things in water today...nothing would surprise mel in today's world.....as we have been in the country for years.....and on well water...
The county water I mentioned was back in 1976 when we were first married....and it was very heavy with chlorine the smell was obvious...it is definitely worth a try...try letting some sit open in the air and use side by side on two plants...without letting it sit...the plants will tell you...

We don't drink our community water without it going through a filter first. I refuse to drink it straight from the tap. I don't mind cooking with it, though.

If our rain catchment system gets close to running dry, we've got several large tubs that we can set up to dechlorinate the water for the gardens. That is so good to know. If there is one thing we stocked up on for a SHTF situation it's those big metal washtubs.

Some communities add fluoride to water. Ours does not. People have strong - differing- opinions on this.
Surface water has different organic compounds to trea too.

Our water comes from aquifer. Nearby town has had difficulty keeping their water towers filled and experienced low water pressure.
Midland TX went to NM state line and drilled into aquifer to get water for their city.

Water is a valuable resource.

Up until a couple of years ago, we had a deep well that our community water came from. It started filling in with sand, so they had to come up with another plan. There is a large muddy river that runs through our county, and it's not far from our house. They decided to pump water from that river and process it. I have no clue what all they treat it with. Just the thought of drinking that dirty river water kicks my gag reflex into high gear. That's why I only use our home filtered water from the tap to drink. I also use bottles of natural spring water.

I got the second cucumber trellis up yesterday. And checked the timer again. The timers, both of them, don't like the heat at all. Shade doesn't matter beyond it keeps things a little cooler. But they recover during the night and are working so far. And the plants are grateful for the regular watering. Fingers crossed that things keep going well.

The seeds are popping in several of the containers. I had to cover them better because the squirrel lifted the cover to dig in the dirt. Nothing else, just dig in the dirt. It also keeps doing that in the sunchoke and asparagus pots. One of these days...

I was going to do more today but we're in heat advisory and for some reason my body is not adapting to the heat well this year. So I'm going to work in the house.

Took the van back to the shop today. They are going to take it for a few drives and see if they can figure out the problem. The mechanic thinks it may be a caliper sticking. I hadn't thought of that but it's always a possibility. I can do that repair myself if it is too pricey at the shop. But in the balance, if the price is reasonable, I'll pay it.

Son didn't want to go out. But then it was okay. And then it was really okay because he got to see friend. And then he absolutely crashed out when we got home.

Anyways, off to do more house work. And friend brought a pile of pants needing repairs. Although I did tell him that two pairs are past the repair stage and he needs to replace them. Those are staying with me so that I can use them to make the patches for other pairs. One pair ripped at the knee again, just above the patch from last time. I just laughed. It was when he was deciding to fix them himself and used an adhesive patch. Tore straight across the top of the adhesive patch. Another pair I'm going to have to use adhesive patches to fix one of the pockets. It's on the side of the thigh and there's no good way to stitch that. I keep trying to get him to buy sturdier pants but there are sensory issues so it's not likely to happen.

Since we don't know if I'll have the van back, much less repaired, before this weekend, I decided to go ahead and pay the delivery fees for groceries. They won't deliver to me because I'm too far out. So the deliveries are all going to a friend's house. Another friend is grabbing them there and bringing them up to me, and I'm reimbursing gas money. I had to leave most things for the freezer off because I'm currently a little tight on freezer space. But if work keeps going the way it currently is, I should be able to repack and get everything put away when it gets here.

I spent last night looking at new vent hoods for the stove. And a shelf to go on the top of the stove control panel so I can store the frequent use items there instead of on the stove top. And a couple more small shelves to hang in the space above the stove. Although I'm debating hanging some of the more frequently used cast iron there as well. Flip side on that is I could empty the warmer drawer on the stove and put some of the cast iron there. I just don't know at the moment. I've adapted really well to no longer having a microwave so now I want to make better use of the space. And my cast iron collection has been growing. I think, maybe, that I've hit the max that I'll use but I've run out of wall space to hang them on. And I hate stacking them. Another thought is to move some of the more infrequently used items out - to thrift or to a different storage area - and then put them in there. Yes, I'd have to stack them but I'd do it. I'd just make some microfiber or felt cloths to go between them.

After eating the rest of the au gratin, I'm pretty sure I won't make it that way again. I think doing it as chunks is probably going to be the better way for us. And hopefully over the next week, I can get another garden bed cleared and start the radishes, turnips, and rutabagas. Maybe beets. I need to check their carb content. Oh, and yes, I can grow jicama as a seasonal but it's already too late in the season here. I will be getting seeds to grow them next year.

Now that you mention it our water comes from a well. They have also drilled an additional well but are waiting for funding to run it to the water tower thing. No telling what chemicals they put in the water though.

We got over an inch of rain Sunday. We had some strong winds with it. To the east of us got an EF 1 tornado. Some friends were without power till yesterday. Or they hoped to have it back by last night.

I am putting peaches in the freezer and sharing with the kids. I don't have hardly any freezer room left. But I am greatful that we have some this year. I also canned another canner of green beans in pints. Where I am going to put them is the question now.

I will get daughter's kids today. She needs to get a birthday cake made for the one year old. Her party is Saturday. It can bake while she works. Then she can decorate it before picking them up. I have to sweep and mop before our crawler gets here.

I had hubby drop me off at my favorite resale shop while he went for his check up. I didn't find much. I got hubby a tee shirt to work in. Some of his are getting pretty raggedy. I picked up a bra for me and 2 king size pillow cases. The store has less stuff in it than they used to have. I guess donations are down or there are more shopping there or maybe both. I did notice prices have gone up a little too, but that is everywhere. I was glad to find what I did.

Have a good day friends and stay safe and cool.

It's going to be a scorcher, today! High temp of 100 with heat index forecast to be 114......

We just finished gathering veggies from the gardens, and I've got a load of laundry in the washer to hang on the line to dry. That's all we plan to do outside, today. I was already sweating at daylight out in the gardens. This will be a day for the ac to run, instead of the fan. We might get another chance for rain on Saturday, but we plan to go ahead and water tomorrow morning.

No plans to heat up the kitchen, today, either. I cooked enough last night to have plenty of leftovers tonight. Just warm in the microwave and supper is done. I don't have a clue right now what I'll make tomorrow night. Heat index tomorrow supposed to be 117!

@Digger , I've noticed similar at the more well known thrift stores. I had stopped going to them because the prices got raised but the merchandise available actually went down in value. After one too many times of getting home to find that items had damage like broken zippers, I stopped going to those stores unless I had time to fully inspect and test each item I was buying. When I finally was able to get in them again sometime last year, their items looked worse, cost more, and were very scarce. I honestly haven't gone back since.

Then I found the pet rescue thrift stores, and a couple of other thrifts that are off the main roads and harder to get to. Those are well stocked. The merchandise is used but not badly damaged. So far I haven't actually found any damage beyond normal wear and tear. They are cleaner and more neatly kept. And they put out things that the normal thrift stores around here don't, like fabric and yarn. And while some animal rescues can be a bit extreme in their ideals, I am more than happy to spend money there so that animals can be saved. Or at least loved and cared for until they pass due to health issues.

It's better than the private "thrift" stores that are actually for profit. We have a few of those and they are in as bad of shape as the non profit thrift stores. Although their merchandise is in better condition, it's extremely picked over, and there isn't as much. A lot of the non-profits and for-profits have taken to adding new merchandise.

Last time we went to Illinois, except for the funeral a little while back, we went to a thrift store in Clinton, IL. I think it was new and it may be the same people that had one for a long time but that location is now a big truck stop. I think it was called the Lighthouse. They had great stuff and really better quality than any of the thrifts around here. The newer one had the same good quality clothes too. But that was four years ago, so no clue now.

There is a resale shop that we catch open on a rare occasion on the way to the VA that I have gotten a few tops that fit me. I'm looking forward to getting back into some of my favorite tops as I lose more weight.

Its too hot for DH to work outside so he suggested we go to town to get pedicures.

I've got one of those really bad feelings in my gut. Really bad. I'm hoping it's just the sudden change in barometric pressure. Since we are now getting rain when we weren't supposed to be. We weren't supposed to be getting rain for well over another week. But apparently something about the system that is causing the insane heat index about a month early is triggering severe storms. I even had to go out and lower the sunsail for son's pool. Glad we actually prepared for that need.

It's raining, barely. I went out and just walked for a bit. Dug weeds out of my garden. Pulled plantain seed pods so I can start seed. That will be so much easier than digging it uo from all over the yard. This one was narrow leaf. Tomorrow I'll see about seed from a broad leaf.

The wind blew the cover off the seedlings enough for me to see that all but one variety is sprouting. I put it back on. In a week I'll see which ones are big enough to pot up.

Despite the squirrel disturbances, the sunchokes are starting to peek. I guess I need to get moving on the whole larger pot and grow bag thing

I think I'm having an anxiety attack. It's been so bloody long since I had one. But between the last few weeks at work, and the van acting up, and someone saying transmission problem in relation to the van acting up, I think I'm reacting to an old trigger. My last two vans died from transmission issues. But that was after long lives and a few years running paper routes.

Ugh. I hate this feeling.

And I'll add the note to say that I thought I had already posted this. I did the anxiety steps. Then I went outside for a little bit longer and grabbed the seed stalks from some broad leaf plantain. And took some CBG. It's backing off a hair. I think there's a headache underlying it. And I'm punting and ordering dinner. I don't do it often but I'm doing it tonight.

I'm having a kind of bad feeling too, something to do with July 4. Don't know what it is but we won't be going anywhere. Although I have a doctors appt on the 5 in a big town. We can get to the VA without going through town though.

Thank you. I took headache med and ordered dinner. I'm just going to chill for the night.

I think another part is my body dealing with the drastic decrease in stress levels from the past few weeks. This is only the second week where there hasn't been some big issue that required me to spend several hours/days digging into things that aren't part of my normal daily duties. A few minor issues, but not massive ones.

And I realized this afternoon that I keep going into the one client expecting to find some major, headache inducing issue that has to be fixed Right Now. I think it's going to take a few more weeks for it to sink in that we are getting things stabilized. Now of we could just get one of their big clients to pay the 90 day past due, $200k+ bill, everything would be sitting pretty.

@nomifyle , Judy, I'm not going anywhere for July 4th. If my neighbors are anything like past years there will be more than enough homegrown firework displays. We don't need to go anywhere. And even if they didn't, I wouldn't take son out into the crowds.

I can't even think about major disasters in more than a passing way right now. Haven't been able to for a while. I can review the articles. But I'm leaving it to my back brain to process. It's good at that. And I'm pretty sure that's where most of the "quiet little voice" warnings come from.

I see events tie together in ways that I'm just not willing to put on the internet anywhere. It's a knack I've had for most of my life. And right now, the gut is saying keep my head down, stack em deep, get the garden growing, and expand my capabilities.

And it's really itching on garden and rain water. Not just veg garden, but "hidden" garden as well.

And since both are part of the overall plans to do things that will help in the future, and that I've dived into plans on for a long time, I'm just chugging along.

Although there's a detour this week for a new vent hood in the kitchen. And a small metal shelf to go on top of the stove console. Although I'm debating just making one out of wood.

I did the remainder of my grocery shopping for the next little while.

Prices are up and I did find what I was looking for. And I did a little bit of replacement on some canned foods, they so much more expensive now. Last time I did a pick up (which I didn't do today) they were out of ezekiel bread, I snagged two more loaves for the freezer today. I also got more frozen veggies for my diet. I'm losing ounces now instead of pounds but I will take whatever I can get. I didn't get more bottled water today because I didn't do a pickup, but I have a good stash.

When I don't do a pick up and I go in the store I can bet cash back and I'm trying to put the cash back that I spent on the generators. I can't so a lot each month but it does add up. The Lord is faithful.

I'm really glad that I voluntered to do the church bulletin. It takes about 15 minutes and that includes folding them. I worked in an office for so many years doing this is second nature to me. And I'm glad to be doing something for the church.

The air quality has been bad all week although today is somewhat better. Today I decided to close up the house and turn the thermostat low enough that the a/c would run regularly. I hate doing that but breathing issues were getting worse even with using inhaler.

Purslane is taking over a major portion of the garden since I've not been able to work outside. I tried a couple times this week and it did not go well! On Monday I spent quite a bit of time clearing sticks and small branches from the lawn from the high winds last Saturday and Sunday.

I'll be glad when the sick trees are down and gone. That is supposed to happen in July. There are so many ash trees in town needing to be removed. Neighbor behind me has 4 or 5 and everywhere I look I see more and more. So sad. Reminds me of when the American elms died. When I was a child the city park was a city block with sidewalks as an X from corner to corner. It was so dark under the elms that I was somewhat frightened and then all the elms were gone and it was a totally different place. I wonder how many of the replacement trees were ash. That's in the southern part of the state and the Emeral ash borer started there and moved north. I think there are only two counties in the state that border Minnesota not yet affected, but it won't be long before they are.

Tomorrow I'm helping at the church with a funeral dinner. We're expecting around 65 but never know how many will be there. Makes planning tricky. Ordinarily I'd say less due to it being a workday, but with the holiday people might have it off anyway.

Food helped. A lot. And let me get a clearer view on how to handle the problems. And accept that I don't have to handle them Right Now. If needed I can still drive the van. I just have to stay at under 42 miles an hour if the vibration returns.

And since I am currently working on letting my brain and body rebalance, I don't need to go anywhere. I think I have another 3 weeks or so before there is anything mandatory. So I need to slow down and take this at my pace.

Tired today - poor sleep last night due to heavy storms that had been ongoing through the day; but we were the lucky ones - our township only had a few outages, some other ones served by our coop were not so lucky, and many are still without power as substations were damaged, poles down, etc...

I'm sitting here willing my coffee to kick into gear; may have to bump it up with a B-12; and add in 600 mg of Ibuprofen to take care of the back that doesn't want to straighten up. I've got the critters fed and all the porch furniture that I'd laid over on their side back upright, plants back in place, etc... but then needed to sit back down in order to dredge up a bit more energy. I need to go to daughter's town to take middle grandson to football camp - that's 9-10. I'll put together the goody bags for youngest grandson's birthday party while I'm waiting to pick him up and bring him him back home. Then I need to head the other direction to the Farmers' Market and Aldi.

Wish me luck!

We watered everything early this morning, and that's it for today. We're just going to be staying in and trying to survive in this heat. It got hotter yesterday than forecasted. 119 degrees with the heat index. Today is supposed to be even hotter.

I'm expecting my food chopper to come in today. I could sure use it, too. I also had DDIL order me a meatloaf pan with the insert that lifts out the meatloaf from the pan. I have several loaf pans, but I have lost the insert for the meatloaf pan. The last 2 times I made meatloaf in the crockpot according to the recipe, it fell apart in chunks while it was still cooking. So, I'm not doing that anymore. I'll stick with using the loaf pan.

I'll be making my order out for more chopped onions soon. I've still got 2, 50 oz jugs that I bought from Sam's, but I need more, and Sam's doesn't have them any longer. Augason Farms is my "go to" place. I love their quality as I've used their products for a long time.

On the porch taking a break. We too have sweltering temps and crazy humidity. We finished harvesting potatoes and garlic this morning. We have been working every morning for the past week to get that done. The first batch of sunflowers need to be harvested before the next rain. Maybe this evening I can get that done. One of our elders has been very ill so I have been tied up with that. Thought that he wasn’t going to be here today but he started rallying back late yesterday. A hard sort of bittersweet time.
On a different note…last night around 9:30 hubs and I took a stroll. And my stargazers were blooming! A sweet surprise! Temp was 84 and humidity was 90% but it was fairly comfortable and the moon was a 3/4 moon and hazy. Always a beautiful spot if you search!
I also should add that all of you are in our prayers. My sweet angel has God’s ear and she prays for all my friends that she can’t meet. That would be all of you!

I had the sticky caliper thingy a couple of years back. It was cheaper to replace the caliper than fix it. Not so sure these days

Our local thrift has changed into a mostly clothing store. It makes money, but I liked the other stuff

For us this year, it is the opposite. It was really raining for weeks. April end to Middle or 3rd week of June. Turned our area back into a swamp. Then the heat hit. About a month later than normal, but it is worse than normal.

Feeling better this morning. And grateful that my automatic responses to anxiety attacks kicked in yesterday. It had been so long that it was possible they wouldn't. But they did. It took a bit, but they did. I stopped. I walked away. I didn't make major decisions while I was in panick, chaos mind state. And I kept the more radical, crazy mind thinking shut up. If I'm ever in a deep, actual life threatening scenario I think a lot of people are going to get a big surprise. Because I clamp down hard on my instinctive responses right now. And my instinctive responses are to completely nuke whatever the threat is. The flight part got broken at some point in the last few years.

Not completely in the safe zone yet. Woke up with the stomach churning and cramping that comes with the anxiety. And the migraines. I think I'll need to make some Moroccan mint tea and get that to chill out.

The brain worked out some future steps that can help decide where to go from here.

Stayed up until after midnight letting friend talk out her stress. Helping her to turn her mind towards positive ways to deal with things. Although the family members... well we've tried all the positive ways. Now it's just "grin and bear it" when she has to.

I'm so grateful that I got the watering set up. The local gardeners were being judgemental over me watering every day, but I know what we get for the next two months unless there's an odd weather pattern. And my experience has been to water daily if I want to harvest anything before August. Without regular watering the plants just barely hang in there and then go gang busters when the weather starts turning for fall.

Everyone, please be careful with the heat. And also careful in the storms that seem to be being triggered by it.

Oh it still is. I rebuilt a caliper when I was younger. The parts are cheaper. The headache is not. If it's sticky caliper, I'll just get a new one. And pay someone to install. Because we're not going into what a pita it was to uninstall and reinstall. Although it was easier than some jobs I've done.

I go for clothes occasionally. But rarely. Mostly I'm looking for other stuff as well.

We had rain a lot later than normal. Then heat hit hard and early for two weeks. And then a flood week again. Now it's turned hot, about a week or two before normal. And my body is not adapting as well this year.

I did not adapt well to the heat when our power was out. The two window units helped later at night but mid to late afternoon, not so much unless you stood right in front of the unit. And I got grouchy.

I've got plenty of other stuff and really plenty of clothes in various sizes. But I still look at clothes.

It just hit 120 heat index here. Nothing is stirring outside. An ambo went down our country road a few minutes ago. I hope no one has had a heat stroke. Lots of older people live in our community. Cary wants to mow tomorrow morning, early, but I think it's still going to be too hot for it. The humidity is so high it's hard to breath outside.
