Happy Mother's Day to All! :rs:

We had a great trip, yesterday. We love spending time with my aunt and uncle. They are a lot of fun. She's 80 and he's 89, but still very active. She had a large lunch being prepared for us when we got there. Spaghetti, oven roasted potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, dinner rolls, and a coconut pie, everything homemade. Everything was delicious, too. Mom was ready to get back home, but we stayed to visit, until late afternoon. We dropped Mom off at her house in small town, helped her unpack all her stuff, visited with her for a little while, then came on home. Cary and I were so tired, we went to bed early, and I hit the floor running this morning trying to get the house all tidy for Bible study today.

Wishing all you Mom's a very blessed day.

I didn't really want to cook after church so we were trying to decide where to eat that I could find something that would not stray far from my diet. I looked up burger king to see if they are serving a salad. Couldn't find out. So we decided to go to the local road kill cafe. Most of the time they have whole green beans but today they did not. I got a lot of broccoli, both cooked and raw. They had lettuce but I don't like ice berg, they did have tomato and onions, I picked out a few bites of tomato. It was surprisingly tasty. They had shrimp that looked like it had been brased in a skillet, I got some of that and come chicken pieces that were not breaded that was in a pan with broccoli. And if I was tempted to get something way off I looked around at the very large people with piled up plates and lost any temptation to deviate.

We also went to walmart so I could get some more small tomatoes and cottage cheese. I got three containers of each. That should hold me for awhile, until my next big shop. I did buy a few frozen vegs and when I put them in the freezer I realized I already have a lot of them already. I eat veg two or three times a day

We were at a different walmart than usual and could not find a couple of things. I could not find any canned fruit. And my regular wm is out of the mandarin oranges with no sugar added. I'm wondering if things like this will become hard to find or priced way out of sight.

We took some time on Friday and did a day trip. It was nice, but we were exhausted when we got home after a 12 hour day that involved 4.5 hrs of round trip driving (all done by me). Just too hot here in Florida already to do outdoor things. Was about 93 most of the day. Takes way too much out of me.

Quick trip to the grocery store today. Found some marked down meat that I will can with some potatoes (in pints). Also got some more BOGO pasta sauce. It was a good deal-I have a ton but hear that spaghetti sauce prices will be much higher this year due to low tomato harvests due to drought. Also bought some soda. Not a prep really, and we don't drink much, but it was a really good deal and every once in a while a cold soda over ice is a nice treat.

Happy Mother's Day!

Daughter and I FB messaged each other Happy Mother's Day early this morning; she took a walk and had a quiet morning by the lake; then had plans for lunch with her boys and the step-son and his girlfriend afterwards.

We had a light rain last night so I wasn't sure I'd be able to get any outside work done, but the ground had dried up enough to work by the time I got outside. I've been feeling tired lately, so took a B-12 before I headed out; my last labs showed me a tad low; it seemed to help today - I didn't need a mid afternoon nap, anyway

I re-tilled the front garden and got some areas marked off - a double row for my beloved zinnias in each garden and some bush beans; then planted a couple of things in the raised beds. I also transplanted some rhubarb; and will have some daylillies to move tomorrow - Mama originally planted them by the sump for the kitchen sink when she and Pop first moved to this farm going on 70 years ago. I'm going to have to find some place to transplant the rest of them - most likely down the north side of the clothesline area. Might make the area a little snakey but I don't bother snakes if they don't bother me (and I'm a fan of anything that eats mice!). I've not seen any poisonous ones up in the yard in all my years here; but do keep an eye out when I'm in the timber or down by the creeks and the lake.

My arms were worn out from the tiller by the time I came inside this evening - I reckon I haven't been using them enough. They were tired enough that I didn't get the area where I'm going to plant the raspberry starts that are coming up everywhere tilled as I'd planned - I'd had Hubby mow it down low so that it would be easier to till. Hubby thought I should put them in a different place, but I pointed out that the spot he was thinking of was awfully close to the clothesline; he agreed with me that it wasn't a good spot  It's looking like I may not get the raspberries moved tomorrow either as we've got thunderstorms in the forecast. Well, if we get enough rain that I can't plant, I reckon that will make weeds easier to pull  The raspberry area will get a shallow till first to tear up any grass or weed plants, which I will rake off to the side; a second one to get to root level; then one for planting. I'm going to take some cuttings from the gooseberry bushes that are on each end of that strip of ground, so may have some more of them to plant as well - wouldn't hurt to have some younger ones coming on. One gooseberry pie a year is enough for me, but I do eat the ripe ones out of hand when I'm out working in the garden.

I've got black walnut trees in the side yard so nothing much likes to grow in the flower bed on that side of the porch, but I've got lemon balm growing everywhere - enough that I may experiment by planting a couple of clumps in that bed and see what happens.

Well, Hubby has started watching a motocross race so I'm going to post this and head to a quieter area

Take care all; stay safe out there!

Busy week with lots of travel - to bigger town Tuesday for botox, to mid-size town Wednesday for oncology followup. And start working on our camper we're redoing, and clean the canning kitchen, and finish planting the garden, and....

I'm starting my week out by going to the Vein Center in Big town, today, to have tests run for the peripheral artery disease. I have no idea what will be involved, and I'm a bit nervous over it.

Car dealership called last night letting us know that our RAV4 will be here, today. I'm not getting my hopes up, though. It would be nice if it did, since we'll be in Big town, anyway.

It's looks like all the rain has stopped for the summer, LOL. It's just those afternoon pop up showers now. Hit and miss. Gardens (raised beds) are getting a bit dry, so Cary is watering this morning. Hopefully, if we don't get one of those afternoon pop showers, the big garden can be planted one day this week.

Sherree I know you are beyond excited to get your new vehicle, congrats. Praying for a good result on your tests.

Down right at 10 pounds in 4 weeks. Its such a good feeling. I actually wore a blouse to church yesterday that had been too tight and now it fits. I don't wear anything that is even slightly tight. I'm blessed to have a large selection of clothes in various sizes. I've always worn clothes that are pretty much a classic style so most things are stylish enough. I really need to organize my closet.

DH is going to lowes today to get a metal trash can. They cost 35.00, I checked wm online and theirs are even higher and they were all 3 day shipping. I'm trying to get my husband to understand that if he needs something to get it now and not look for it later when there is none to be found.

DH ended up getting his trash cans where he gets his feed, at a better price, so he got two.

He had quite an experience at mcdonalds. He placed his order and was pulling into the pay lane when a woman (sheboom) cut him off. She called him a MF white ******, cursing and screaming. At the pay window the clerk told him he was indeed next. The idiot woman was still cursing him. In this instance I'm glad he's not younger because he would have caused a fight. he has little fear.

Oh, we're so excited to have our new vehicle! Cary drove it all around Tupelo, yesterday, getting the feel of it! We are very well pleased. I love it and can hardly wait to drive it myself.

I got sorta good news at the Vein Clinic, yesterday. The cardiologist came in, asked me a lot of medical questions concerning my legs, checked the pulse in both feet, said I had very good blood flow, and told me she didn't think I had anything to worry about. She didn't do the testing, since I have another appointment in June. She said to wait and do all the testing then. I'll be getting a Calcium Score that day, too. So, now we wait, until June, to have all the testing done, before I'll know anything for sure.

While we were in Tupelo, I got to do some shopping. I went to Home Goods, Belk's, and the Book Store. We went out to eat afterwards, before coming home.

Gotta go into Mom's small town this morning to get a new tag for the vehicle. That's another big cost, but not as bad as Cary was expecting. He called ahead. Mississippi's new vehicle tags are outrageous. Around $500-$600! We got the insurance switched over, yesterday, after leaving the dealership. I plan to visit with Mom, today, also.

While out and about, yesterday, we got a big thunder boomer at the house. Mud puddles in the driveway when we got home. We could hear the thunder down our way while still in Tupelo.

Loving that work is flexible. Decided to start doing the garden work in the morning when it's cooler. Today was a mix of stuff. I had to dig out space for the last 3 pool legs. And then it was on to the garden. Got to experiment with the hot knife in the garden. Oh, I love that knife. The last trampoline mat, for now, was cut and put in place. So much easier.

I added an accessory to the hot knife. A year or so ago I got kitchen fire blankets. It was a pack of two so one was just floating around. That's now with the hot knife so I have a safe place to set it while it is still hot. It did a wonderful job of sealing the edges where it cut the mat. Saved me a lot of time and helped make sure that the mat fit the space better.

I did forget the fertilizer for that bed, but I can fix that easily by pulling the staples and laying the mat over for a few minutes.

I then watered the flats of plants, pulled in the extension cord, cleaned the tip of the knife, and filled the chalk line for the next part. This afternoon or tomorrow I start putting in the tomato plants. Depends on work, and the temperatures outside. I'm not adapted to summer heat yet and that is what we are getting in the afternoons.

Normally I'd do one step at a time on tomatoes. But I'm cramming that bed full this year. So I'm going to have to work one segment at a time, starting with the center. So that's marking the mat with the chalk line, cutting the holes, using the drill auger to make the planting hole, adding some fertilizer and egg shells, planting the tomato, and then putting the tomato cage up. And then tying the tomato cages together so that they support each other when the tomatoes get a bit oversized. And spacing them and tying jute between them because I'm not going to buy 24 more tomato cages.

I don't think I'll get it all done in one swoop. Unless the weather is really generous, that's going to overheat me and wipe me out. But I figure two or three mornings will get all that done and tied together. Also because I'm probably going to have to pull a few old poles to serve as supports as well. So time finding and digging those out. I use old tent and canopy poles as supports until they rust out.

Anyways, time to get some work done. I've been typing this while waiting for codes and other things to come through. I hate lag time.

DH went across the highway to a portion of our land to cut grass. He use to do that with a riding mower, but now he has a tractor. When he came back across the road and stopped at the mail box the tractor would not start. He came up to the house to get me to tow him and the tractor back to the house. There were no issues with that, such a blessing. He thought there might be a stick in something or another and he fiddled around with it a while and found the stick, so he got it started, another blessing.

I'm really not that confident doing much outside, from fear of falling and not feeling well balanced. But at least there are still some things I can do to help him.

He had spaghetti for supper and I had a nice stir fry. Today is a month on Golo and I'm down just about 10 pounds. I'm starting to feel a difference.

Botox done today and a lot of thrift shopping. We went to the Goodwill outlet center (or the pit, as DH calls it). It's the goodwill where they sell by the pound. For less than $20, I got 3 towels, 3 comforters, 2 throws, a piece of fabric, 2 curtain panels, and 2 chair cushions for outdoors. We then hit a couple more stores and I got 6 throw pillows, 3 sets of sheets, 2 pairs of pants, a shirt, and some dishes for about $40. We are redoing a camper to rent and these will be used for that. Great deals!

Oh, another thing that bothered me today (OK, maybe the only thing that bothered me today) was at my medical appointment. They showed that I had prescriptions for all the meds (antibiotics) I bought from Jase Medical earlier this year. I just blew it off - "No I'm not taking those. Good heavens!", but it kinda got under my skin. I know medical corporations can track what you fill locally, but I didn't think they could track these.

Cary got the new tag, yesterday, and we had a great visit with Mom. Her health isn't doing well. She keeps having severe nose bleeds, and it has caused her to become anemic. I have to take her to ENT specialist next Tuesday.

Nothing prep wise is going on for now. I don't even know when I'll get to do my grocery shopping. I don't really need anything that can't wait a bit longer. I told Cary the other day that we would save even more money if we only went once a month or just when we needed to. He agreed, so we're not going to be on a schedule to shop anymore. My pantry is bulging, and I really need to be eating some of what I've stored down a bit, anyway. Everything is on a 2 yr. rotation, and I don't want what I've stored to go much over that. Some things are coming close. Mostly, condiments (ketchup, mustard, and mayo) and jars/bottles of sauces, some canned veggies, etc.

Raised beds are doing great. I spotted my first baby bell pepper, yesterday. We've had rain the past 3 days. It's raining right now. I was hoping to hang the laundry out to dry, but a no go on that, today.

I've got a grocery list going, mostly stuff nice to have for my diet. I did run out of cottage cheese and tomatoes a couple of days ago and we picked them up after church. Other than that I'm good for awhile. On my list I have water listed to keep up with what I drink. I have several cases and DH keeps them rotated for me. And I still need to replace the mandarin oranges no sugar added that I've been eating lately. Although I have several cases of it. I can remember when I would buy them one or two cases at a time.

I had a real sweet tooth last night, so I ate a banana and it satisfied me.

It's all part of the electronic medical health record. The most comprehensive part, at this time, is the information collected by insurance companies. But eventually it will all be connected. Last time I looked at my medications list I discovered that they even knew that I hadn't filled the anti-viral the prescribed for COVID. The paranoid part of me wonders how long it is until we need to start filling prescriptions just to keep the doctors from deciding that we are difficult patients and not worth working with.

Weather changed some of my plans this morning. It rained last night and was misting this morning, which means I couldn't use the hot knife. I debated just tossing the plans but then decided I wasn't going to do that. I grabbed the tote and went out anyways. I used the chalk line to mark the mat. That worked great but my spine wasn't happy with all the up and down. I knew rain would wipe out the chalk lines, so I used my razor knife to cut the holes at the correct points. Tomorrow or this afternoon I'll use the hot knife to seal the edges. And then I'll get started planting from the center out.

I like using the chalk line to mark the spacing but I don't want to mark a planting bed more than once. So I think that's going to be the standard for now. Mark the bed and cut the openings. Then move on to the rest of it.

I discovered a not thought of bonus to the mats. The cats don't like them. Neither do the little dogs. So both aren't using my garden beds as litter boxes. I did have to throw a frost cover over the veg plants because the local squirrel decided to try munching down. He got scared off when I came out of the house. Cheeky bugger. I may have to pull out the pellet gun.

Anyways, time to put in a few hours of work. Maybe the sun will be out by the time I'm done today.

Been busy stocking to an overfill on the little things like baby wipes, dish soap and stuff like that. Couple of decent sales this week in the store ads, so will definitely add more gatorade in the 20oz bottle size. Bought some new shirts, tshirts and boots, along with some little things for the kitchen. Those little things you just don't think about but are nice to have.

I've got all the necessities covered for a long while. I've been concentrating on green houseplants to help make our home a little more warm and cozy feeling. I love to decorate, and I love growing things, indoors and out. Trying to find low light houseplants is a chore.

I guess I thought the meds would not go thru to my record as insurance was not involved. Learn something new every day.
Yeah, that is definitely scary! So far, at least, AllDayChemist is anonymous ( they'd sure wonder what I was doing if they everywhere those orders, though! )

I'm guessing you had to provide personal info and basic medical history for Jase? They probably have a doctor on staff who writes the scripts.

I ordered from Jase. I dont remember any question about my PCP. I fill out form with DOB and check
boxes for any medical conditions.
The main reason I ordered was it have a booklet to tells what meds for what infections.
I can cross reference with the meds I treat my fish with.

Pantry beetles in the Stove Top stuffing! You know the tiny black ones? So I know what I'll be doing. Every packaged cake mix, pudding pack, cereal box, pasta etc. will have to be checked.

I am so paranoid about getting bugs in my pantry. I always freeze everything that you listed when I bring it home from the grocery store for 2 weeks. Then, I take each item out, let thaw, and vacuum seal in jars with the date written on it, or I use O2 absorbers to seal in buckets. It's helped me out a lot doing it this way.

I think you folks in the South have a much bigger problem with bugs than we northerners. I've only once had a problem with bugs, and they came inside some saltine crackers I got from a discount store. I mean, they were inside the crackers! Yuck!

The diatomaceous earth works great, especially if you spread it in a thin layer on the top of the container. I use that when storing grain for the animals.. plain galvanized garbage can, filled with grain, then 1/4" DE on top. I'd seal the lid with duct tape, but even on those I didn't tape, there was never a bit of insect activity. Untreated cans would be a mass of webs and ruined grain within weeks in the summer.

Yes. Lots and lots of bugs down here! DIL moved down here from Montana, and she was horrified by all the bugs and flying insects we have here. After 3 years, she's kinda gotten use to them, though, LOL.

I do my best to keep a tight lid on my house and pantry. I've only had bugs get into something, once. They were in a box of Rice a Roni that I failed to freeze. It was just sitting on a shelf for a few months. Everything gets frozen first, then vacuum sealed, unless it comes in a sealed can or jar. We keep a year's worth of dry dog food for our dog. We even keep all of that in sealed up buckets.

Hi Summer

I've lived both north and south of the Mason Dixson Line. Our family farm had a marker with the M on one side and the P on the other along with some indentations that may or may not have been made by target practice over the decades.

In Hawaii we're experiencing bugs on a whole new level. Surprisingly the mosquitoes aren't anywhere as bad as anticipated. On the other hand, cockroaches and creepy crawlies? Ugh! It's like they're the natives and humans are tourists they tolerate. I don't care how much you spray or clean, they're there.

I've begrudgingly come to expect bugs in just bought processed foods, grains and flours and process for storage accordingly. And the centipedes are huge(!) and downright dangerous. Locals stomp them into oblivion with prejudice and even after they look dead, they stomp them some more just to make sure. I've been told a bite from the ones with the bluish tint are especially bad.

If you have a problem with bugs Hawaii may not be the place for you.

Saw oncology today - plan is a CT in 3 months to follow up, but that's it. I need to see my ENT to get recommendations about my hearing loss. Will try to get an appointment scheduled tomorrow. DH and I worked on the garden this evening. It will be much smaller than previously, maybe about 1/4 of the size. That's OK. I would like to get more raised beds up this summer and get some strawberries planted - or raspberries.

I've never even wanted to visit an island much less live on one. I did go to the Dominician Republic a few years back for one of DH's sons wedding. I could not get back home soon enough. I don't even want to leave this area, but a couple of months ago DH's sister passed and we went to Illinois. It was a nice trip but again I could not get back home soon enough.

I know that feeling, Judy. There's no place like home. Cary has traveled the world, and he has taken me on some adventures, too. In the end, maybe nice for a visit, but I'm always itching to get back home to our little piece of paradise right here. I'm pretty sure our traveling long distances are over. It's all we can do to travel for 2 hrs. to take Mom to see her sister over in Alabama.

Another huge tree limb broke off and hit our back roof. It rolled off and hit the railing on the deck. Cary is busy rebuilding the section of railing. He keeps a huge stock of different sized lumber in his workshop, so he didn't have to go into town to get what he needed. He did all the mowing and weed eating, yesterday afternoon.

I'm doing laundry, today, and making a red velvet cake for Cary. I've got the cake all done, except for frosting it. I also changed out Cary's winter clothes for summer ones in his armoire. I did mine last week. I hope to hoe the raised beds this afternoon if it doesn't rain. Cary needs to check the big garden to get an idea when it will be dry enough to till and plant, too. He has 3 more tomatoes, 4 watermelons, 3 banana peppers coming up in his mini greenhouse, so the big garden needs to get dry, so they can get planted soon, not to mention green beans and more summer squash. Sorry, for sounding like a broken record on this, but RAIN! By the time everything gets dry enough to do something with, it rains again.

eta.....I forgot to mention that I've had small cataracts in both eyes for over a year now. I wasn't going to have them taken off, unless they began affecting my field of vision. Well, 2 days ago, I had a blind spot come up in my right eye. It's bothersome, especially when trying to read. So, I'll be making an appointment just as soon as I get all this other testing for PAD/CAD done.

It has been a tiring week - I think mostly mind, but body as well. I've gotten a few things done but have also had to make a few runs to town - I think 'people-ing' wears me out more than the errands  I didn't sleep well last night and a nap sounds like a plan; at least a short nap does. I'm still having trouble adjusting to not being on night shift, so still a bit of a night owl.

I did get most of the yard mowed yesterday - until a belt broke. I had one patch about 6' x 40' left to go when it snapped. Hubby is going to pick up a new belt on his way home from work tonight.

It's supposed to get up in to the high 70's today but there is a pretty chilly breeze blowing, so I'm going to wait a bit before I head out to re-till the garden areas. I want to pick my mullein before it gets too hot as well - just have to figure out where Hubby put the folding table I'd planned to put in on to dry.
