It's going to be a beautiful sunny day today. High of 88 wonderful degrees. Gardens looking good, and the yellow squash seeds are coming up. Hopefully, the cukes will be next, along with the seeds Cary started.

Today will be a day of relaxation and rest. It's my birthday, so I'm taking advantage of it, LOL. No home fellowship/Bible study today, either.

I got outside early and got more done on the garden beds. I got the trampoline mats cut for the two beds. And got another one spread out so the sun and heat could help flatten it.

At some point today I will find a candle and get the edges of the mats melted.

But today is also laundry and kitchen day.

I put some deer ribs in the crockpot last night and left it on all night on low, the top layer is scorched. Hopefully DH will eat around that. We often go to the road kill cafe after church, but now there is nothing I can eat. Not going to spend almost $15 to just be able to pick out a few shrimps and green beans.

Yesterday day I was down a pound and this morning another little bit, not quite a pound. I still didn't get three meals in yesterday and its not likely I will today either. What ever, I'm losing and I'm satisfied and not hungry and I'm eating very healthy, nothing processed to speak of.

I'm sorry, Judy - I'd posted a request for someone to start this weeks thread on page 2, as I knew we were going to have storms going through, but then there were several more posts after that so it probably got lost in middle. Thank you for starting it. :rs:

Happy birthday, Sherree!

I got two garden beds cleared this weekend. And trampoline mats for one and half the other. I set myself the goal to finish clearing one more large garden bed. Then it's time to plant what I have.

I'm going to get small sprinklers to go under the mats. They'll have small custom made hoses with quick connects. That will keep water at the roots. And reduce the amount of watering I need to do.

And I have to order more garden staples. The price on them has jumped significantly so I will keep better track of them. I'm also debating order some of the foot long staples. I have pvc board, so I'm thinking to get a 2" hole saw to make the pieces that keep the staples from ripping through the ground cloth. I'm also considering 2" plastic rings from 2 liter bottles every 2' to keep the ground cloth off the soil. So that the winds won't cause it to wick moisture from the soil.

Mom and Dad normally travel in the summer. I'm thinking about seeing if I can borrow their open trailer while they are traveling. It would let me get so much done that I can't do right now. I made myself stop doing the random little splurges and am now focused back on getting the house and yard more independent.

And I want to save for a big local sale at the end of the month. I can pick up a lot of stuff there. Last year there were a lot more vendors than normal. And a lot more weapons. It will be interesting to see what this year brings.

I've also been warned that the next sale, or the one after that, for Naturally A Deal, tends to have a lot of fruit and fresh veg. I'd like to be able to stock up some of that and can it. And for veg, make my own freezer mix packs would be good.

Step by step getting to another level.

I saw it and at some point I looked to see if someone else had started the thread and no one did so I did it. You are a blessing ReneeT.

We had an ordination this after noon at church and they were having refreshments. And since I didn't want to partake, I ate before. First I had the cottage cheese with chopped tomatoes and mandarin oranges and then I had ground meat (probably pork) with tomatoes and riced cauliflower seasoned with coconut aminos (yum yum). That was about 1:30 and I'm still full. No temptation at all church with all the refreshments, I had coffee with half and half. Dh ate so no need to cook something for his supper.

Its been a rainy day and way humid.

Got to the clean out sale and found the house had been vandalized (but not as bad as it could have been). Got some tools, garden supplies, and step ladders. I should have bought the food/pet food/ cleaning supplies, but didn't think of it. I may go up next weekend if the clean out guy is there and get those. If they're not edible, the chickens won't care.

He also let me get cuttings of lilacs and rose, so I'm working on those now.

If it doesn't rain, we're planning to till the garden and plant this afternoon. We have a slight chance of thunderstorms, but if it holds off, we'll get it done. It's very humid, today, with our high of 88 degrees. Cary needs to get into my mini barn and bring out our floor fan. That's usually all we need, until our temps reach into the 90's with high humidity. For the past 2 days, I've had the doors open with a nice breeze blowing through the house. It did wonders with cleaning out all the stale winter odors. It made everything smell so clean and fresh.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow afternoon for a check up and a cleaning. No big deal this time. My mouth has healed really well from the last surgery, so all should be good. I can still eat pretty much what I want without any molars, unless it really hard or tough, so I'm not getting new partials, at least right now.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for my birthday! I had a most relaxing day. Spent a lot of the time outdoors just enjoying the weather.

I waited until today to deal with the online prescription refill mess. Because I knew it just wasn't going to be something simple. And sure enough, it's not. I'm using the online order because the discount for the maintenance meds is a lot less expensive. But the headache...
Anyways, despite texting me that the new refills were now available, and a phone call, the new prescription refills are not showing through the online portal. Trying to get that resolved but brainiac power of Amazon CS agents isn't the greatest.

We finally got the garden tilled up, but it's still too wet to row and plant. It was almost still too wet to till. We got it that far, though. As I was walking the tiller back to the shed, I stepped right in the middle of a fire ant hill! Ouch!!!! I've got bites all over one foot, so I came in the house and took a dose of Benadryl. I'm mildly allergic to fire ants. My whole foot is burning. I was only wearing flip flops. Cary keeps fire ant poison out all over the yard when he sees a hill, but he, apparently, didn't see this one.

Still no rain, so everything is drying out. More chances for rain and thunderstorms, but I hope nothing develops here.

Supper tonight will be leftover chicken breast, a garden salad, and potato salad for Cary, with Keiser rolls. He still has sugar cookies for his dessert.

The sun is shinning today and warm, some where in the 80's, the cool weather is gone for the season.

Dh had ham and eggs (3) and I may cook a pizza for later for him. Pizza is my weekness but I think I can control myself.

I talked DH into putting grits on fire ant beds, he said its working.

I'm down 8 pounds, yay! I made a stir fry today with a few shrimps, some carrots, brussle sprouts, and broccoli and scrambled an egg up in it. Totally full after and it was quite good.

Not sure what I will have for supper for me.

Hi everyone.

Happy Belated Birthday to you Sherree! I hope your foot feels better soon. DH has been going around the yard and farm putting stuff on the fire ant hills for several days, he said they are really bad this year. He got bit/stung on a finger yesterday.

It has been a hectic few weeks around here. Because of the termites DH had to remove window trim, drywall, insulation and baseboard. And then we had to look at the mess for a few weeks, first, the pest company couldn’t come spray because of all the rain we kept having, then it took awhile for the darn things to die and held up the repairs. We painted 2 years ago but didn’t remember the color so DH cut a tiny chunk of drywall from behind an outlet and it was enough for Lowes to color match thank goodness. We’re happy to have it taken care of finally.

The end of April starts many Sunday Birthday celebrations in our family. Last week was youngest DD, yesterday we celebrated youngest grandsons birthday he will be 12 tomorrow. Next up will be DSon-IL, then oldest grandson will be turning 14 around the end of the month. Throw in Mothers/Fathers days and my birthday the first week of June and it’s pretty busy every weekend.

We ordered a large upright freezer to go in the laundry room so we have been working on moving and shifting some things to make it all work. It will be a bit crowded since we already have an upright freezer along with the usual washer/dryer etc. I probably will have to use my drying racks some where else but…We believe it will make life a bit easier for both of us to have more freezer space upstairs rather than all those stairs to the basement. I was hoping to bring one of the med. size chest freezers up but it takes up too much of a floorspace, so we needed to go up rather than out.

Even though Hughes has been out we’re still having internet issues although it’s not as bad as before. Verizon still $#cks! DH has not only been to the local place today but has put in a few phone calls as well trying to figure out a billing issue and one call just dropped because the service stinks! And for good measure our landline telephone is out!!! Out where we are we don’t get decent internet, cell service (you have to be outside in a certain spot with your head tilted just so) etc. and we need our landline but since AT&T took it over several years ago it’s not been very dependable. So tired of all the technology that cost so much but doesn’t work like it should.

I’m doing a makeover supper tonight with the leftovers from grandsons birthday meal yesterday. We have a couple of “fajita/quesadilla“ things left (his description) that I’ll pop in the air fryer. I’ll cook up the last bit of mixed frozen veggies in the bag from last weeks chicken pot pie to add to the leftover yellow rice, put out some chips and salsa and call it good.

Judy~ Congratulations on your weight loss, that’s great.

Making son jambalaya tonight. And made several pre-prepped sausage and shrimp packs for the next few times. It really is easier to just grab that bag. Two of them are going to friend along with the starter base.

Son doesn't like to bite through larger shrimp so I bought the extra small salad shrimp this time around. Saves me some cutting time.

Not sure what I'm having. I think just shrimp with garlic butter.

Happy late birthday SouthernBreeze! Hope that it was a good one - aside from the ant bites, yikes.

Our garden is half tilled. Hubby decided to double the garden this year (I **mayyyy** have helped a little with that decision lol) so the original garden is tilled up and ready to plant, but the new section is going to take some more work. Our weather has been on the damp side of normal for several days so it's still too muddy to get into the new half with the tractor.

Starting tomorrow though our temps are heading back up. By this Sunday it's supposed to be 93 - yuck!! It was barely 40 last night!

Meanwhile the February chicks are great big chickens now and my kids are counting the days until they start laying, lol. I keep telling them it will be another couple of months but they are so excited to get our own eggs again

Our small local store/butcher shop makes sausage from chicken - it tastes like pork sausage but doesn't have nearly the fat. I buy a pound about every other week and fry it up, put half in the freezer and the other half in the fridge. I was going to make a quiche but decided to just make myself a sausage omelet; will figure out what to do with the rest tomorrow.

I tried to do some sorting and clean out - need to move older grandson's summer clothes to the younger one's chest of drawers; then pack the smaller ones in a tub to donate. I'm also going to take a few of their books from here to the Little Free Library in their town - school will be out in a couple of weeks so hopefully someone will enjoy them - it'll be a while before the great grandbaby we expect in October/November gets old enough to read them.

Youngest grandson had a field trip today but they weren't going to get back before school was out for the day, and daughter was already booked solid, so I ran over and picked him up, then of course we had to go to Wal-Mart so I could pick up some weed whacker string for daughter; I got out of there without spending too much money - just some ice cream sandwiches for each house

It's going to warm up in to the high 70's tomorrow so I'll be able to get out and about and do some yard/flower bed clean up. I'm going to try to tempt some of the kittens to get closer - I still haven't gotten what I think is a correct count of how many there are - the two Mama kitties don't seem to care if it's their baby or the other Mama's, they nurse whichever ones come up to them. It's so cute to see them peek out of the cat flap and then hop out.

I have not been able to find ANY marigold plants anywhere, so I guess I'll be heading in town to hopefully find a couple of packages of seeds as mine have disappeared. The gardens are still too wet to get in to, but it's supposed to be up to nearly 80 day after tomorrow, so maybe I can at least get some marigold seeds in the ground.

Well, Hubby just walked by with an ice cream sandwich, so I think I'm going to see if there is another one lurking in the freezer.

Take care all; stay safe out there!

90's and humid with rain later in the week. Have a big donation stack of stuff to take to women's shelter tomorrow. Caught up all the filing I have been putting off. Leftovers today. Watched a fat bunny in the yard this evening and played hopscotch with a cute gray lizard. He wanted to sun on the porch right where I was going back and forth loading the donate stuff.

Got a list made of a few minor things to restock big pantry. Will do all my town errands later in the week. Mailed some important papers to dhs 2 weeks ago. Certified. They came back cause mailman on duty in Little Rock said they there is no such Dhs office. :gaah:its been there for years. Got it all taken care of. Dealing with nursing homes is not for the faint of heart.

Hope everyone has a nice week.

Our gardens are doing really well. All of the squash and cuke seeds have come up. The seeds in Cary's mini greenhouse still haven't, so I moved it to a sunnier spot yesterday afternoon. I think it was too shady where he had it. I've already got blooms on some of the bell pepper plants, and tiny little blooms on some tomatoes.

High temp for today is 90 degrees with the heat index of 95. No rain in the forecast. This is more like May weather for us.

Dentist appointment at 1 pm this afternoon. We'll just eat in town, before coming back home.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the BIG day. Our new SUV is supposed to arrive! We'll be waiting on the call.

Happy belated birthday SB. Prayers for all in need.

We went to decoration and our family dinner afterwards. The crowd is getting smaller every year. It is an hour and a half drive for us. My cousins were there from Oklahoma and Texas. It was good to see them. My cousins that host the dinner are both in their 80s. I don't know how much longer they will be with us. I always enjoy the day so much. Decoration was a really big deal when I was little, but i can see it is dieing out slowly.

I got more done in the garden. I still haven't tilled the garden we started last year. We keep getting rain and are expecting several rain days starting tomorrow. Today I hope that I can get more outside work done. The heat and humidity are here, so it is not as comfortable out there.

Yesterday I bought me an electric chainsaw. I have an electric weed eater that I love, so i thought i would enjoy the saw. I have a gas one. But the gas one, I can never start the first time. After hubby starts it and I run it a bit, I can start it. But this electric one I can just grab and do a quick job any time.

I bought some antibiotics to have just in case. I also got a new copy of The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery. My old copy is pretty worn from use.

It's cloudy and grey out this morning, though the sun does keep trying to peek through the clouds. I took a walk out to the gardens to see how wet it was - and the answer was 'very'. The air feels heavy like rain could start any minute, but wunderground.com - the online weather site I use - says nope, not today. I gave it the sideways raised eyebrow look but I guess we'll see what happens....." W/U also says that it's not going to rain again until Thursday afternoon, and the temps are supposed to range from the current low 50's to mid 80's by then, so I'm thinking Thursday morning will be when I can get anything in the ground, if then.

The orioles are hitting the hummingbird feeders pretty hard - I've got 6 of them fighting over the feeders this morning. I'm going to have to go to Dollar Tree and buy some more large clear plastic bowls to make guards for the feeders - Middle grandson has a track meet in a town with a DT, so I'll go over a little early and pick up a few. I use the Dremel to cut a small slit in the bottom of the bowl, just wide and long enough to slide over the hook portion. I'll probably have the grandsons this weekend, so that will be a good project for them to do while they are here. Probably ought to buy a few extra bowls though - I've cracked a couple of bowls by putting too much pressure on the dremel, so probably should expect they might do the same.

Renee, do you have trouble with yellow jackets swarming your hummingbird feeders? I'm deathly allergic to yellow jackets, and had to take our feeders down, because of them.

We have lots of bluebird houses all around our house, and they are on their second nesting already. They're fun to watch, too.

The sun is shinning and its glorious. Gonna be in the mid 80's, getting too warm for me. I'm glad we got the new ac unit, I hope it helps with the electric bill. Its been warm at night in the house so I've got the ceiling fan on high along with a tower fan and a small fan on the table next to my chair. I have a third fan for when its really warm. The ac does not click on until its about 80 in the house. DH is cold natured but likes to sleep out from under the covers, me I like a little cover. I guess its about 3 years now that we don't sleep together, we both miss that but it is what it is.

The scale inched down again this morning, its my reward for not eating any of that pizza last night, I actually wasn't even tempted. I have quit taking the golo supplement, but not telling DH that because he paid for it.

I’m working on what needs to be used up from the fridge. I‘ve browned 2 lbs. of breakfast sausage crumbles that I’ll be freezing to use later on. It’s on the salty side so I’ll need to keep that in mind when I go to use it. I used up several veggies and made coleslaw to go with supper tonight and chopped up extra onion, bell pepper and some celery to make potato salad later in the week as I also have potatoes to use up. Next up I need to wipe off the mushrooms and get them sliced up. I saw a couple of slightly wrinkled apples and an open jar of applesauce I need to do something with but baking wasn’t on my list today, maybe tomorrow.

Well, that didn't take long. My dentist appointment was at 1pm. We got there early and went on back. I got great news. No cavities and all of my remaining teeth are good and solid. So, we are back home already. I have an appointment in June to have them cleaned. I thought they were going to do it today, but it was just a check up.

Since we got finished so early, we didn't stop to eat, before coming home. So, we're having ham and Swiss on rye sandwiches, instead. Cary has chips, too. I think he has 3 sugar cookies left, LOL, for his dessert, if he doesn't eat them sooner. Think I'll make peanut butter cookies next. He sure loves his "sweets" for desserts.

There is thunder in the distance. Sure hope the rain goes in the other direction.

I had a really good day yesterday. I got a lot of work done. Mowed and weed eated the yard where it needed. I did forget to finish along my flower bed where my battery died Sunday evening. But maybe I will get to it tomorrow. I tilled part of the new garden. It looks good. Hopefully I can get something planted there if it doesn't rain too much. But rain is forecast for spotty showers over the next several days.

I even set out one of my bee traps in a tree where I caught a swarm a few years ago. I haven't had honey bees in a couple of years. The bears and my health just made things difficult. But I have some bear proof electric fences for the bears and I am feeling pretty good. If God puts some bees in my trap, I will be grateful. But if not, I will try again next year. I may put up another trap in the next couple of days.

Today we get 2 of the grandkids so not much work will get done here. But grandkids are the most important work.
Have a great day everyone!

It was almost dark when we heard a big boom. Our dog came up barking, and we jumped up to go outside. Didn't have a clue as to what just happened. Well, a huge limb had broken off one of our hackberry trees and landed on our roof! There was no wind, so it must have broken in one of our storms and finally got heavy enough to come on down. What a mess to contend with now. Cary will be getting up there with his pole saw to try and get as much off the roof and higher up as he can. From what he could see last night, there is no damage to the roof. It scares me every time he has to get on the roof for anything. It's metal and always slippery. There's not much I can do to help, except hold the ladder steady while he climbs up and down.

We're expecting that phone call, today. I hope it comes in. We'll have to drop what we're doing and head on over to pick it up, then go on to our insurance co. to get that fixed up. Tomorrow will be getting the new tag. It's not costing as much as Cary expected, although, new car tags in Mississippi are outrageous.

Scattered thunderstorms are still in our forecast with a high of 83, today. They keep missing us.

Stopping by to say hi! Sounds like everyone is working hard! Put up 20 quarts of peas today. First picking! Moving on to pick strawberries and to plant melons, peanuts and sweet potato slips. Like many of you we are having warmer days high humidity and intermittent rain. Y’all don’t work too hard!

Cary got the limb cut up and rolled off the roof. Now comes the major cleanup. We'll just work on it a bit at a time, since there is so much to do. No damage at all to the roof. Since we live under a canopy of these huge trees, it's a wonder we don't have this happen more often. I'm so thankful that it doesn't. It is scary when we have tornadoes and severe thunderstorms roll over us, though.
