Good morning, Judy and All.

I'm sure it's going to be a busy week for everyone. Lots of cooking. I'm preparing a nice Thanksgiving meal just for Cary and myself on Tuesday. We'll be going to DS's house for Thanksgiving with all of DDIL's family. It is what it is.....

Other than a lot of cooking this week, more cleaning, sorting, and discarding are in my plans.

Good morning. Haven't made it outside yet. But sorted the onion sets so I can pass on the extras today. And got more laundry going.

Going to work on the ear warmer band for a bit while my body finishes waking up.

Son decided we could have a normal morning today. So lots of silly kisses and smiles.

Good Morning, All!

It's shotgun deer season here, so I'm staying close to the house - got my orange vest hanging on the kitchen door knob so we don't forget to put it on if one of us goes outside. I trust my cousins who hunt our ground, but there is federal ground nearby and I don't know who all is out there.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is this week! One of my cousins is hosting so all I have to do is bring tortilla chips, make a layered dip to go with them, and make the honey butter to go with the hot rolls. Daughter is taking her crew to Florida for the holiday, where her dad and step-mom live - they are taking my grand-dog with them this trip so I don't even get to baby sit him, darn it! (He's the best behaved grandchild I have ) Hubby gets a 4 day weekend - unless he gets called in; they were asking for volunteers to sign up for on-call, but I don't know if they've gotten any or not.

Well, I think I'm going to go look through some cookbooks for inspiration - I'm getting bored with what we usually fix. Hubby's fixing the main dish, so I need to think of something for dessert. I've got some mini cinnamon rolls that I might use to make bread pudding - I'll add a little maple syrup over the top to give it a bit of a different flavor.

Take care all - stay safe out there!

Still trying to use up what I can and avoid shopping unless it's a really great deal. Today, I mixed together a quart of beef stew, a can of vegetable soup (one of the little ones), a can of corn and a can of green beans. Mixed up a box of Jiffy cornbread and that was our lunch (I will probably eat the leftovers all week till Thursday). The leftover cornbread muffins will be turned into dressing for TD. I am trying to cut some recipes in half (like the dressing) since there will only be 6 at max for us (and the family of 3 joining us is sick right now, so I"m not sure they'll make it). I have nothing against leftovers, just don't still want to be eating them at Christmas!! Dh only eats twice a day - I think he is unintentionally doing intermittant fasting - and has slept better and is losing weight. I eat about like a 7 year old - but I can get pretty creative with leftovers.

Cleaning, organizing, trying to list more on Ebay since DH has inspired me to do more. Pretty much the never ending stuff of life. I sent some aprons to DDs and they and DS will get cash and cookies for Christmas. They and Mom are about the only ones I buy for anymore and all Mom wants is a Bible that sis is getting - so I'll get her a nice cover. Christmas shopping (but not the baking) will be done by the end of next weekend, I think. I really prefer shopping online - the whole black Friday was never my thing.

I'm trying to list at least 3 things on Ebay every day. It's not a ton, but every little bit helps, right? I've sold two things today for a total of about $65.

Church had Thanksgiving lunch after service. I only took about a tablespoon or less of several things and had a huge plate of food. And I did get dessert. I couldn't eat it all so I brought what was left on my plate home. Way too much food. I've been thinking about going to my cousins for TD, but just can't face that amount of food again, so we'll probably stay home and eat what ever I put together. Baptists eat too much.

The sun was shinning today, after several days of gray skys. Rain is predicted for tomorrow.

DH is having an issue with his food running through him, every time he eats. He takes pills for it but that makes the problem the opposite. He's getting very frusterated about it, thinks he's dying. He did take an antiobiotic when he had his eye lift, but swears he was taking a probiotic too. Refuses to eat yogurt.

He needs to get checked out! He may need a stronger probiotic, but he could also have other issues, from parasites to more serious issues. But he's risking malnutrition and dehydration if he let's it go for long...

We are doing the same but it's all good. Their family is even smaller than ours and we like them pretty well... that is oldest DS.

Youngest DS, who is only a couple miles down the road, will be having it at his house His in-laws have been there for an extended time because a house purchase fell through literally the day they were suppose to move in and since their house had sold and the new owners were moving in the next day, they had no where to go.

It's all worked out great...I'm cooking a few pies and that is it! I usually end up cooking it all and cleaning too, thenn I'm exhausted and swearing I will never do it again.

Our children too have taken over hosting the holidays. Easier for us to travel as they work and grandkids have many activities. We all pitch in with food. I am hoping they will have some ideas for Christmas gifts too as I am clueless and need to get shopping done.

We have a small house. Not enough room for everyone anymore, since DDIL's family has grown in size. It was once just her mother. Now it's also her sister and new husband plus his mother. It will be a first time meet with them. DS has a huge house, so it works well for everyone. DDIL's sister wants to host our Christmas meal, so I get off light this year. I don't even know where she lives. Somewhere in the small town we do our shopping in, though.

I'm not stressing over the holidays. I was told what to bring for our Thanksgiving meal and will be told what to bring for the Christmas meal. They are all furnishing the rest.

To be honest, I'm just relieved. My business is hopping this time of year and it's been such a stressful year that I couldn't take getting this place company ready and then doing all the cooking.

There are vintage things on every available surface waiting to be priced or packed for my booth in the antique mall. We took a big load on Saturday...must have been a few hundred mercury glass ornaments in it, several santa figurines and some vintage toys. The weekend after Thanksgiving is huge for that store. So many people come back to this general area for the holidays and they often want to hit all the antique stores looking for vintage Christmas to take home as a keepsake. The store lets me stock the items I produce in my business too so this house is crazy this time of year but will level out in a few weeks and I'll get ready for Christmas which will be here, even if it's just me and DH.

Oldest DS is about an hour away, in the city where my booth is.

This will be our last Thanksgiving in family home. It's huge. Fixing 3 toilets today. Joy. Moving all the tubs I have filled to somewhere other than the kitchen. Friend warned me that when I get all the extra stuff out and the new floor in I am likely to be tempted to stay. Until I think about cleaning and upkeep.

I am cooking the ham and the potatoes. Kids are bringing the rest. Some will be there for lunch. The rest will come and go throughout the day. Lots of leaves but too wet for the little ones to play in them. We usually have a huge pile raked and ready for jumping into.

Boxing more of the jars today. The boxes I found are working great for quarts and smaller. Easy to fill and easy to move. Someone gave me 4 contractor size trash bags full of clean, folded moving paper. It is really coming in handy with jars and keepsakes. Hoping to see more stuff leave the house with the kids and grands.

Cold and rainy out. It will be chicken and dumplings for a quick lunch break. Need to have all of the water issues addressed before Thanksgiving. Will probably bring MIL from nursing home. Expect her to want to return after an hour. She will fuss over grands then forget she ever saw them. Sigh.

Praying everyone has a blessed week.

I should have had more kids...have pawned off all I can on my two sons and their wives lol. I'm looking at the grands and wondering what they will want if we live long enough to get them grown.

I remember how sentimental I was about anything that belonged to my parents, grandparents or great greatparents. They took full advantage too and I was left with tons of stuff I couldn't use or get rid of. The barn burning fixed that problem.

I've almost worked my way through the ton of bell peppers and marconis that we grabbed from the garden just before our first frost. We use a lot of them and I grow them every year but have never had mine be this profilic. The sad thing is, they produced all summer but I was too tied up to do anything about it until right before the frost. We were shocked to get a bushel of tomatoes, mostly small with enough big ones that we are still enjoying them...I'm having tomato sandwiches this far into November. We thought they were spent weeks before but they fooled us in a good way. I may cut up the rest of the small green ones and can a few jars for frying.

I diced and froze most of the peppers but decided to try my hand at canning some. I did a couple small experimental batches and even though I really wanted to waterbath them using the same recipe I use for okra, I decided against it. The recipe just doesn't have enough vinegar to make me comfortable. The diced peppers are so much denser than the okra when packed in a pint jar and I didn't want to use enough vinegar to pickle them so I've been pressure canning what I don't freeze. I still have enough to do half a canner so I'm thinking about doing them mixed with onion so I can get a whole batch.

Since I missed most of the canning season this past summer, as soon as I get my booth topped off again, I'm going to start canning meat, cole slaw, dried beans and maybe some Christmas jam or whatever strikes my fancy. I'm in the mood.

I made a huge pot of white chili, pretty much from my home canned stuff a few days ago. I put in a pint each of canned bell peppers and onions, two quart jars of great northern beans and a quart of boneless chicken breast. I added a store bought can of corn, next time I'll do two. I saved the juice from the corn and made a corn starch slurry to thicken it a little, plus spices and sour cream...it was so good, easy and quick. I may never cook beef chili again. The grands were here and they cleaned their bowls plus we have enough left for another couple meals. I served it with sweet tea and fried corn bread made with cream style corn and buttermilk. It has just the tiniest hint of sweet from that corn and went great with the chili.

Commodity pick up today, no telling what they will give us.

I've got a going grocery list at wm, but will hold off on it, don't really need anything, but some things are nice to have.

The sun is shinning but we are supposed to get strong storms in a couple of hours.

We are going to the VA tomorrow for DH's issue.

Strong thunderstorms with a few possible tornadoes for just south of us this afternoon and overnight. I hope we get some rain, but without the storms. What we got the other day has already dried up.

Rain is supposed to stop tonight. Hope so because I need to haul some tubs out of the kitchen before Thursday.

Turkey is thawing. It will get cut into strips and seasoned before frying. Was hoping to cook everything the day before but turkey tenders are so much better right out of the skillet.

Moved 1, only 1 piece of heavy furniture and my back is already complaining. It used to wait at least one night but not anymore.

No rain here, yet, but it looks like it could start at any time.

I have had my smoked turkey breast in the fridge thawing for mine and Cary's Thanksgiving meal I'm preparing tomorrow night. I'm planning to make cornbread chicken and dressing with giblet gravy, too. I'm thinking of going ahead and making the cornbread for the dressing, tonight.

I've been clearing shelves, cleaning them, and discarding more stuff, today, throughout the house.

Rain, and heavy rain, but its letting up.

Frozen cherries and strawberries in commodities. Several packages of pulled pork, some apples and a few canned foods. Its food and I'm greatful. It wore me out just getting the frozen foods put away.

We stopped at the Dollar store and loaded up on sweets, so no need to bake anything anytime soon.

The weather will be cooling off and little sunshine in the next week, maybe one day.

Another one about Baptists . Someone asked a Baptist how you join a Baptist Church. The person said, “ Trust in Jesus as your Savior and own a 13 by 9 casserole dish.”

I can laugh at all those Baptist jokes, since I was raised Baptist, and I know how they love to eat. Don't even need a special occasion, either. LOL! My mom's little Baptist church stays in perpetual cooking mode year around.

I got up cooking this morning. Tonight is mine and Cary's Thanksgiving meal together. I've got my turkey breast all ready for the oven, and I've made my cornbread for the chicken and dressing. The cornbread is cooling right now. I'll pinch it all up, once it cools enough to handle. Cut up chicken is all ready to mix in, too, plus chicken broth and spices. I'll put it in the oven to bake later this afternoon. Lots more cooking to do.

We got some good rain last night, without all the storms. It's been so dry that even with the flood of rain we got, there are no puddles anywhere.

I'm finally getting to take a break. Back is hurting. Turkey is ready for the oven. I finished the chicken and dressing. It's in a casserole dish ready for the oven. I just pulled a homemade apple pie from the oven. That will be dessert, warmed, with vanilla ice cream. I still have green beans, potatoes, giblet gravy, and dinner rolls to do, but that will come much later.

Tomorrow will almost be a repeat of today. I have a pumpkin and a pecan pie to bake, about 50 deviled eggs to make, and another batch of dinner rolls. Those are for Thursday.

This is the first year I've made a special meal for just me and Cary. I'll probably do the same for Christmas. That way, we get to eat our traditional holiday foods. I've seen the menu for our family Thanksgiving meal, and it's not what we normally eat, but we'll make do. It's not so much about the food, anyway.

Yup. Friend of mine ended up with Giardia this fall. These kinds of symptoms. Everything just ran right through him. It might be something to mention at the Doc.

He finally took my and his sister's advice and had the clinic check for parasites. Sure enough. This fellow is a hunter and woodsman, and knows enough to be careful of water sources. Still, you can catch Giardia from eating at a restaurant if somebody preparing food is a carrier. Also suggested he might want to get his hunting Lab tested (another possible source as dogs can be carriers) but I know he won't. Anyway, a round of Metronidazole finally fixed him up.

I tell ya - men sometimes.

We did go to the VA ER today. The ran testes, sound that he still has a UTI from a couple of months ago that did not go away. They've put him on Cypro something and a probiotic. The doctor told him he has to take the probiotic for the rest of his life. They were not able to test a stool sample because he could not go. He's got a cup to catch one in and then take it back to them. They gave him fluid and an iv antibiotic. He is feeling better.

We picked up our second box of commodities. One thing, the vegetarian soup, has bioenginered ingredients. so I have to decided with to do with it, I don't particularly want to give it to the dog either.

Been a day. Neither good nor bad, just a day. Boss decided that we are taking off for both Thursday and Friday unless some emergency comes up. I pushed to get in payroll for all companies on Monday so that there would be no reason for delays. We both figure that the Monday and Tuesday next week will be hectic.

We are taking on 4 new clients next month. And larger responsibilities at one of our bigger ones. Two of these are dependent on can I work them into a setup that means they don't take excessive amounts of time. One especially because they lied about a lot of things. If I can't wrangle them into a tight, efficient system, she plans on dropping them. But she wants to give them a chance first.

It's job security. But it's also a mess if something happens to me. And that worries me. But that's a me thing. Boss enjoys that it make take me a while but I tend to wrangle things into a pattern that lets them be done as efficiently as possible. I have a hate for wasted time.

I'm not going to go crazy for Thanksgiving. But I will make a chicken and a few more sides than normal. And I'm going to make German chocolate pie, and the white chocolate version, for son and I. That will actually be 4 batches because of food issues but I'm going to make them as half batches. And then do a mix in the ramekins. Son gets crushed oreos mixed in, which he'll love.

I finished a hat for a friend. And since she asked, I found a way to make her an ear warmer. But I had to experiment with two methods of stretchy cast off for loom knitting, so now I have some extra hair bands for me. She doesn't know about the ear warmer. She'll find out when the box arrives.

All in all, a day.

I have a load of laundry going, and I'm getting ready to start making the pumpkin pie. Pecan pie after it comes out of the oven. I've got 2 dozen eggs to boil for the deviled eggs. Needless to say, no housework is getting done with all this cooking going on. Laundry has to be done, though, because I hate for it to pile up.

Our meal last night was a great success. Cary raved over it. We were so full, once we got through with the meal, we had to wait about the dessert. We slipped that in before we went to bed, though.

Wishing everyone a great Thanksgiving in case I'm not able to get here tomorrow!

Hubby and I will be fixing a full Thanksgiving spread tomorrow although there will just be three of us - 23 pound turkey, mashed potatoes (instant doctored up), homemade stuffing, corn pudding,
(son’s request), creamed corn (a hubby tradition), peas, homemade mac and cheese, cranberry sauce (can), green bean casserole …. pecan pie and homemade sweet potato pie (from our neighbor) for dessert.
We love leftovers from this meal and will have plenty to send home with youngest son.
We end up vacuum sealing and freezing leftover turkey and stuffing which works great!

looks like we are having baked chicken legs for dinner tomorrow. Mac n cheese, green beans and corn sounds like it would be good, maybe some mashed potatoes. No pies since I bought enough candy the other day for awhile.

I talked to a young mother of 7 this morning, I want to give her some of the food we have gotten in commodities and I'm also including the canned okra and tomatoes that I've purchased that I don't like. Seven children will eat almost anything. They have pigs and other farm animals they can give it to if they don't want it.

The sun has been shinning this morning and in the 50's but doesn't feel particularly cold.

Found a ham I liked so it is in the oven. Will cut up the turkey and freeze it for later. Got all the boxes and tubs out of dining room. Doing sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes (10 lb) today. And 3 gal of sweet tea. Kids doing all else.

Went to deposit a check at bank and kid running the window couldn't read cursive. That made me feel old.

Getting ready to help DH finish water. Nothing like a little last minute important chore.

Pies are both done but will wait until much later about doing the deviled eggs. I have the fridge full of leftovers from last night, so I don't have room in there for the deviled eggs right now. Times like this, I wish I had a second fridge. I took the turkey out and finished carving it up for our supper, tonight, but the platter still took up too much room. What's left of the turkey tonight will go in the freezer for turkey dressing for our Christmas meal here at home. It was a whole smoked turkey breast, and we didn't eat even half of one breast last night. It was too much just for Cary and myself, but I wanted plenty of leftovers. The carcass went in the garbage, because I had no further use for it. Cary won't eat turkey soup. I could have boiled it, but there was very little meat left. Plus, I didn't know how the smoked turkey would have done boiled.

Everyone sounds busy, busy,busy!

I’m still having some sinus and inner ear issues that kept me down for several days but I‘m feeling a bit better and was able to do a little cleaning yesterday although I’m tiring out really quick and needing to stop and rest often.

We are having our T. day dinner on Sunday instead of tomorrow and that’s good because I can use the extra time getting things ready. I made two skillets of cornbread earlier and after it cooled I got it cut up and in the oven drying out, already did the white bread. The extra bread that I won’t need for the dressing will get frozen for other recipes. I’m taking a break from dicing onions and celery, it’s always nice to have a lot of the work done ahead and I’ll mix the dressing Sunday morning.

DH is working on grouting the tiles in the bathroom and even if there is still so much to be done in there, it’s one step closer to being done. Yesterday he put in the shelves he made for the long wall in the pantry, it looks great. I plan to start filling the shelves next week if I’m able and get the other two metal units empty and out of there. We’ll probably do some more wood shelving but I’m waiting until we get the units out so we can better measure and decide how we want them.

We’ll back to the kitchen. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I started son's tube today. The loom is going to take some adjusting to. The pegs are definitely not tall enough to do homemade fleece "yarn". So when I'm done this one, I'll send a peg to Dad and ask him to 3D print some taller ones. And I may ask him to print a taller set for one of my smaller looms.

I'm not sure this will be finished by Christmas but I'm just going to work on it some every evening until it's finished. I have enough yarn for the whole project on its way. And I had to bag the yarn and loom because it was attracting too much attention from one of the cats.

I don't know why, but the energy just kicked in. So more dishes. I was going to do the pies and then realized that I forgot to pull cream cheese. So tomorrow. But I got chai started and I'm doing eggs. I'm debating deviled eggs but we'll see if it happens.

I was expecting packages today. One arrived but not the other. Of course it was the items I was hoping to work with that didn't get dropped. Fortunately a call to the post office got it fixed.

Son's bloodwork came back. We'll see what the doc says. But I upped his milk thistle.

About to head to bed. Looking forward to a relaxing, long weekend.

I ordered a new Bible and it came today. The Evidence Study Bible, commentary by Ray Comfort who is an apologitic. I was a big fan of Ravi Zacharas, who was discredited after his death because he had a secret life. Very sad.

The huge package of chicken legs is thawing in the fridg. I'm going to cook them in the oven in a cooking bag. I've cooked poultry in a cooking bag before and it turned out great, all kinds of wonderful juices. I'll freeze the juices.
