Has No Life - Lives on TB
Still sipping on my morning coffee, too. It's still raining, so we're going to have a lazy day, other than our home fellowship, later this morning when all the gang gets here. We will be discussing our Thanksgiving dinner plans, afterwards. I hope it goes smoothly, and everyone will be satisfied with the result of those plans.

Speaking of rain, I thought for sure our drought would have been broken with all the rain we've had. NO, I checked our local weather forecast, earlier, and the weatherman said that the rains we've had recently haven't even put a dent in it. It's going to take a lot to fill back up all the ponds, lakes, and rivers in our area. Some smaller lakes and ponds are completely dried up.

Cary has his CT scan on Tuesday. Would ya'll please be saying a few prayers for him that there will still be no sign of the cancer returning? We would really appreciate it so much. It's been 2 1/2 years, since his surgery. So far, so good. He'll need to be scanned for 2 more years.

Good morning to all. This will likely be a busy week for me. hand surgery (carpal tunnel) is scheduled for Monday 11.14 . . . I’ll be working to insure that the last of all remaining fall/pre winter chores/necessities are completed here at Raggedy acres. post op lifting restrictions will likely last a few weeks and the surgery is on my right hand make getting anything heavy done necessary.

planing to replace six SLA batteries in my HAM radio back up solar array with six new 100 amp hr AGM’s. probably do that later this afternoon. the currently existing six 12 volt 100 amp hr SLA’s will be replaced with six new 12 volt 100 amp hr AGM’s the old batteries were group 27 - now 7.5 years old and in need of replacement. the new batteries are group 31 so they’re a bit larger - dimensionally and heavier by about 10 lbs each. I’ll need to build a new cover for the top to shield the terminals and connectors and rework a few other small issues. It’s a good day for that because weather is supposed to be “iffy” as concerned rain.

Enjoy the coming week - which is supposed to be warmer than usual for this time of year here in WNC. Don’t forget to VOTE and remember NOT to be shocked when they try to STEAL IT - ONCE MORE

Prayers offered for Cary; hoping that his scan comes back clean! And prayers offered for a safe and successful surgery on your hand, Raggedyman.

It was a lazy weekend here - my new work schedule gave me a 4 day weekend, it's Hubby's weekend off, and I had the grandsons and grand-dog overnight on Friday instead of Saturday night as daughter was needed to help at a benefit, so the calendar inside my brain has felt off - I checked a couple of times to make sure it is actually Sunday before I started the thread

All five of us were couch potatoes Friday into Saturday - the wind was blowing like crazy, so we didn't want to be out on the dirt bikes or under the trees, both of the boys had the sniffles from allergies and daughter had sent allergy meds along, so even the youngest wasn't his usual ball of fire. The grand-dog had appropriated the couch, Papaw was in his recliner watching a motorcycle race, older grandson was reading and had plopped his fanny in my recliner to get away from his brother - who was watching loud videos in their room (door closed, thank goodness), so I plopped down on my bed to read and woke up 2 hours later

The only prep stuff I really got done last week was stocking up on another months worth of dog/cat food. I plan to add another months worth this coming Thursday morning when I get off work. I'm trying not to stop on my way home from work as often - I now work three nights in a row, and am off for four; except for the week of Thanksgiving, as it's my holiday off. I'll hit Rural King first for the pet food, then the Evil Empire for a few things that Aldi doesn't carry; and by the time I'm done at the first two Aldi might be open - I'll have to set the alarm on my phone if I have to wait very long for it to open as after working three nights in a row, I'm kinda tired.

One of the things I plan to pick up at the Evil Empire is some cans of Sterno - I was sitting at the computer the other day and was looking at all the 'decor' stuff I have on top of my kitchen cabinets, thinking that I need to get up there and dust everything now that harvest is over, and what did I see? A double burner Sterno cook stove. Looking at the clothing on the people in the drawings on the box, I'd say it's from somewhere in the 50's or very early 60's.

The only bad thing about my new schedule is that I'm not going to be able to go to the pool as often; looks like Monday and Friday will be it as I won't have any energy left after I get home Thursday morning; and the pool is too busy to lap walk on the weekends.

Rural King has been out of most of the Science Diet canned cat food other than the tuna, which the indoor cats turn their noses up at - the outdoor cats eat Purina dry, chicken thighs that I cook in the crock pot, and Friskies canned glop. Right now the outdoor cats are chasing a mole - a BIG mole. Hopefully it was the one that ate my sweet potatoes that were in the garden bed; he was on my list for extermination anyway. I'm going to have to start collecting lumber for new raised beds as the old ones are starting to fall apart - the old ones are 4' x 4', which is a size I could move easily on my own; but since I rarely move them, I think I will probably go with 4' x 8' instead; except for one 4' x 4' set of beds to use as the compost pile - I should have enough decent 4' x 4' beds left to use for the compost pile.

We were supposed to have rain last night - I went to sleep early so didn't hear any; but when I went out to look at the rain gauge, it showed an inch and a half of water. Hubby says it rained a couple of days ago, but the ground does look a little wet, so I don't know if there was more rain was last night or not - the grandsons wore me out and I was in bed early. I'm going to wait until afternoon to go out and pull the zinna seed heads and the dried bean pods; if I have energy enough to do so.

Well, the youngest grandson just called to see if I had any work he could do to earn a Play Station card; and there are still plenty of walnuts in the yard to pick up - I have bird feeders hung on the walnut trees so I try to pick up all the walnuts so I don't fall when I fill the feeders, so I am glad he called looking for work. I'm especially glad he called looking for work rather than asking me to give him money - he'll get a bonus from me just for doing that.

Hubby will be heading out this afternoon to look at a dirt bike like one he had years back; if it's in decent shape, he'll buy it and fix it up... and then most likely sell it  He gets a little nostalgic about the bikes he used to race motocross on, so buys that type if he finds one and it's a decent price, fixes them up, rides them a few times, and then remembers why he sold them in the first place  The one he's going to look at today is at least 40 years old.

Well, just got a mass text from work - looks like we're back in masks again; this time it's Covid, Flu, and RSV; apparently they are all three starting to run rampant. Watch your old folks (that would be me) and babies. Gonna be lots of nurses that aren't going to get to see their grandbabies for a while :(

And my unit will probably lose our lock-down room that we use for violent patients again, as they'll want to use it for isolation room for any of those three. Lovely. Maybe I will go get my knee replacement surgery done; I've been putting it off for several years now...

Daughter had asked me to stop by Wal Mart while I was in town yesterday to take the boys home; asked for allergy and cold meds for the boys - Wal Mart had almost nothing in stock for kids. I'm going to hit Dollar General in a bit; that's where I found cold medicine during Covid, so will stock up for the grandkids and the adults.

Aaaand... the grandson just called again and I could hear daughter in the background - something tells me I need to go rescue both of them

Take care all; stay safe out there!

Changed the oil in the wife's car, and did the last work on my tractor needed before winter (converted the loader to skid steer quick attach, adapted a Jeep power angle snow plow to it, and then this morning swapped on a new seat I got for half off from Amazon.).
Have tried hard to be good financially, but slipped slightly with a deal on some mags for my pistols and some reloading brass, and then the wife stumbled on a deal for pork shoulder for $0.99/pound from our local Jewel store (central IL). I ordered like 8 for pickup (if they give me that many) to turn into home ground sausage for us and my parents. My first attempt was met with success and requests for more. At that price, and the quality it seems I am able to achieve, this is both a good deal, and will keep me busy for a bit.

I was able to pick up:
Dollar General brand Children's Mucus Relief Multi-Symptom cold x 2
Dollar General brand Children's Plus Flu x 2
Dollar General Children's Cough DM x 2
Robitussin Children's Cough and Cold x 2
Robitussin Cough and Chest Congestion x 1 (had to show ID; limit 1)

If you've got littles in the household, you might want to consider stocking up. I got duplicates - one set for daughter's house and one for our house - as I will keep the child that isn't sick - unless I'm sick; in which case I'll keep the sick one.

I wasn't sure what I had at home, but knew I had some sort of Dollar General liquid 'Tussin' medication - I used it last year when my lovely co-worker - vaccinated, of course - blessed me with Covid. It worked quite well, so I will probably pick up more of it in daughter's town when I take the grandson home in a couple of hours.

I've still got a lot of cough and allergy meds in my stash, thank goodness. I keep a good supply. The VA gives me the equivelent of Musinex and I get more each month. Such a blessing. I get chronic seasonal coughs and it saves my bacon and helped me through the covid cough last year.

I'm still reading the Steven C. Smith books, I'm in to book 2, so I'm not getting much else done. There was no church today because most of the church went on a trip to Branson to see "Ruth". I saw "Noah" there several years ago and it was amazing. So I'm sure that Ruth will be too, but I'm not interested in making trips like that. The church had many fund raisers to pay for this trip so, except for spending money, it did not cost any one money out of pocket. DH would have like to have gone but he would not go without me, but it was too late to go on this particular trip.

I applaude the church members for living normal life, I'm not sure I could do it. I read too much conspiracy stuff.

The Smith books are keeping my mind occupied.

Two more days till God only knows what.

I discovered a bunch of small mullein plants coming up under my clothesline. Should I pull and dry them, or leave them be? I have two large mullein plants with 5 foot stalks in one flower bed and a few smaller ones in a couple of others.

Might be good to preserve them

My comfrey died back when we had a cold spell a couple of weeks ago with frost. They are now trying to make a comeback. I had dried some leaves and am making an infused oil to be used in an ointment that is similar to neosporin. I will put the recipe below in case you would like to try some. You have to dry the comfrey leaves, then put them in a carrier oil (almond, olive, avocado, etc.) for 4 to 6 weeks before making the salve.
8 oz. comfrey oil
1/2 oz. beeswax
low heat to melt wax
1/2 tsp. tea tree oil
1/2 tsp. vit. e oil
5 to 10 drops clove oil (can use lavender or chammomile)

Slowly melt the beeswax in the comfrey oil in a double boiler over low heat, remove from heat and add other ingredients.
stir, pour into sterilized glass jars to store.

Er... do you mean mullein, or comfrey?

Last Wednesday we went up to rural king in Front Royal (in the mountains) again and got few more things....grabbed 2 more of their ceramic heaters for $21 each....dh got another pair of work gloves ..they have some great led flashlights...and work lights..then went across the parking lot to Martins grocery store...there is not a lot of work up there so many commute..the meat prices where outrageous..more expensive than central Virginia... the store was well stocked...but no heavy cream..eggs were plentiful and reasonable..12 jumbo about $3.50..not a lot of variety on canned vegetables

Back in Central Virginia

Friday night did Walmart..had lots of turkey and hams...prices on the loss leader Thanksgiving items were great....the aisles were piled high with that stuff.. olive oil prices had exploded... other stuff..marching up in price.. got a few things..glad we are well stocked..

Saturday... went by Food Lion...more holes..than Walmart....but generally well stocked..again prices higher...got a few things ...again meat outrageous...just keep adding a can or 2...got some milk and cheese..bacon was on sale but now reg price is over $8.00 per pound pkg...

Sunday we went to Costco to fill up the truck ..cheapest gas in the area at $3.35 ..picked up a couple of things..
Going back to Costco tonight to fill up the Rav...and . maybe cracker barrel...have gift cards to finish using up.... before we can't..then run by Giant Food on the way home since it is on the way..
I am wondering how a some people can afford food now...was reading that food prices could double even triple from here..God protect us all...I am starting to replace before I use.. planning the week's meals and replacing what I will use before I use it because it seems like if I wait it will cost even more..later..
Got another huge trailer load of fire wood in today...with more to follow...
Praying for all here...hope all you all have a wonderful productive week

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
MAN!!!

It is GOOD to be back on here!! My phone died about mid-month last month and had to wait to buy another until I could afford it!

Lots has happened.
Not having a phone means my house is CLEAN!!! I have moved and rearranged a lot of things and this will make finding stuff SOOOOO much easier! Living in this RV means down sizing to the MAX! Painful but necessary process.

Not having a lot of luck with my winter garden. I really need to get things in gear and get the chicken poop, leaves and rabbit poo on there and see what a DIFFERENCE that will make!!

I STILL have tomatoes in boxes getting ripe!! I have given bags of them away......I thought they were getting used up, then I "found" ANOTHER box I had forgotten about!! I am still enjoying them, but wonder what I will do when they are all finally gone .....will definitely MISS them, both the Cherry tomatoes and the Black Krims!!

I currently have lettuce, spinach, potatoes under plastic, and beets.....for some reason they are just sitting there.....not flourishing like things normally do.
:(

I stopped counting at 100 plants - I'm going to pull the ones that are in the garden to dry since they would get tilled under next spring if I left them there; but I will leave the ones under the clothesline that are on the west end to grow.

I stopped by Sam's today for my monthly shop. Didn't NEED anything, but was filling in and stocking in some more and getting some wants. Found the 4 packs of canned roast beef ON SALE for $12.51, making each can just over $3.10. I bought some. Some canned soups were marked down as were canned veggies. Also bought some of those. They had a 72 pill Tylenol cold/flu pack on sale as well. Got one-dated out two years. I should have enough to get to two years before needing that one.

Bought another sherpa lined throw, mainly because I love them :) and because if we have people that have to come here, we would run short of blankets. That's my excuse anyway. Found some lotion, some butane (they were out last month, so I got two packs this month), and a few other things. Had to wait with a bunch of people for my rotissiere chicken, for about 10 minutes or so.

Those sales are good, so if you can afford it and need stuff, take a trip. I got out $200 poorer, but I got 1 Christmas present and a lot of preps.

I plan to stop in at Sam's tomorrow. I love those throws, too. I bought a new one on my last trip there. Can't have too many. A lot of items I usually order online are now "in store" only, so I have to go to the actual store from time to time to buy those items when I need them.

Today, is going to be a busy day for us. Please, would ya'll keep the prayers going for Cary? A big shopping day, too. Sam's, Aldi's, Home Goods, and maybe, the mall, after the CT scan is done.

I've been concentrating on stocking food for so long that I have let other things like for the house go. I need to replace a few items for the house that are just plain worn out. Got to stop in at Aldi's for their Christmas specials. Sam's has sale items that are "in store" only. I like shopping at Home Goods for anything for the house. If I can't find the items, I want there, it will be on to the mall to see what I can find.

Still doing quite well - thank you for all the prayers. Have my followup with surgeon tomorrow and get staples out and drain removed. Have to drive 100+ miles again Thursday to see oncologist that might be able to help with my mouth. I can eat decently, but can only open my mouth about one finger-width (like with the nail on top, not to the side).

I am doing so well! I am hoping to go back to work (part time hours, working from home) Monday. They found cancer in 6 of the 34 lymph nodes they took, so probably radiation again, but not for another few weeks.

I’m off today for Election Day.

I have four loaves of banana bread going in the oven, got a two mile walk in with some neighbors, and called to lower a bill today. Laundry and dishes are also done. I try to stay current with those so they never really get backed up.

While I ran out to vote, I stopped in the dollar general and picked up another thing of ibuprofen (now $1 for 25, used to be 40). I try to replace as soon as I open. I maybe should have gotten two of them, but we have lots of otc pain meds. I also picked up a couple of “stocking stuffers”. My purpose for going was to pick up extra aluminum bread pans to try to freeze some of the loaves. I hope it works.

I made a Thanksgiving grocery list with hubby, and I believe we have most of what we need! It will be a minimal grocery purchase.

I am! The first surgery back in March was horrific. I drank maybe 6-8 ounces of water a day and couldn't eat. Ended up back in the hospital after my followup. This time, I am eating like a pig! And at least a quart of water (along with coffee and juice) a day.

So many good things are happening, but tempered with other serious things. DSis has a stepdaughter in her late 30s just diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer, this will be the first holiday season for my kids without having their dad, and well... everything else that is going on world wide. But God is great, all the time, even when we don't (or refuse to) see it.

Nomifyle, thanks for the book suggestion.
I'm on the 4th in the series, I simply can't put it down, keeping my mind off the election. I read until my eyes are too blurry to see. I'm reading from my phone on my kindle app.

We have to go to the VA tomorrow, DH for his ear that he has to have surgery on and physical therapy for my knee. I'm hoping to get a referral to ortho from PT and knee braces.

I've ordered a few things, but have not been back to walmart. I may go in a couple of weeks. If the world has gone to hell by then I can make do with what I have. One thing I want at walmart is to try some other butters. After tasting Kerrygold again it makes the walmart butter tasteless. WM has a few other brands, although not many, that are not as expensive as KG but not much more than the WM brand. I often use butter a lot.

Continuing to pray for SB and Moldy.

I have gotten so lazy about the food I eat and there is no good reason for it. I ordered some flax sees and they came last night. I use to be religious about grinding some to put on my food but I got away from it, I got away from a lot of things when I married DH. Of course, he's a huge blessing in my life, good guy, but doing things with and for him I let the ball drop on doing some things for myself.

After we voted yesterday we went to the small cafe about 5 miles away. They have plate lunches, yesterday it was kind of holiday food. Chicken flavored dumplings, chicken flavored dressing, ham, green peas and two small rolls, not butter. The dumplings were disgusting and the dressing wasn't much better, but I did eat that, the ham slice was thin but okay, I won't eat green peas but DH does so I gave him mine. There was a tiny cup of fruit salad which was tasty. The good thing was I didn't have to cook anything and we had left over BBQ chicken legs that I had cooked the day before.

I probably would have been anxious about the election but for the last few days I've been, as I've said, I've had my head in a book series. I'm disappointed about the election but not devistated. We will go on and God has a plan.

My physical therapy appointment got cancelled and now I have to wait another 3 weeks. My knee is holding its own and I didn't want to go to Shreveport today anyway. But DH has to go. Maybe it won't be dangerous for him since there was no red wave.

Thanks, All, for your prayers. We haven't got the results of the scan, yet. It might take a few days.

Cary is allergic to iodine, so he had to take a couple of Benadryl, before the scan, since they were using contrast. He didn't break out in hives, but the contrast made him feel really bad. So, we went on to Sam's, but he didn't feel like going anywhere else. It wasn't a big deal. We'll just do the other shopping the next time we're in big town. He has an appointment with his primary care doctor the 16th, next Wednesday.

I made a mistake while at Sam's. They had the jugs of praline pecans (which I absolutely love). They're new. I guess they're a seasonal item. So, I bought 3 jugs, LOL. Got home, and I was anxious to try them. Gosh! They were so hard, I had to suck on them for a while just so I could bite into them! The glaze was totally different than any pralines I've ever eaten. I've never had "hard as a rock" pralines before. They tasted ok, but are hard for me to eat, because all my molars are missing or broken. I might just give the other 2 jugs away.
