Well, ramp bulbs arrived. I just finished pulling the mulch layer off of their new home. And then using the stirrup hoe to pull all the weed roots. And then smoothed it over again. When the spine forgives me, I'll go back out and plant them, and get a frost cover over them today. If not, then tomorrow. That bed is their home until they fill it. And then I'll harvest them to thin them. And I'll probably order a few more sets if they do well in that space.

I do wish I could get wild garlic bulbs. I may have to ask some forager friends and see if they can send some.

@summerthyme , I just remembered, are you able to get some jewelweed seeds?

I was just checking them! Not ready yet, but I WILL harvest some when ready...

@nomifyle We started buying Marketside brand from Walmart. They are large brown, cage free eggs in a clear carton. At $2.68 a dozen we felt they were a bargain since they are closer to the eggs we’re used to. All of our pullets have started laying and fingers crossed the new covered pen and repairs made to the henhouse will do the job and keep them safe.

Whew, today seemed to fly by but I got quite a bit done in both the laundry room, bedroom, bookcase and one drawer of my nightstand. So much paperwork that was in a few decorative baskets I had to go through, some to the regular trash and some for the burn trash. Baskets are being donated. Also found so many pics, a few made me laugh and several made me cry. Bookcase has been decluttered of things that didn’t need to be there all has been dusted. I’ll do book decluttering of this particular bookcase another day but most of these are special and will be staying.

According to all the pens, pencils and Sharpies I found in that one nightstand drawer, I seem to have a serious problem!

The weather is changing and my chronic cough is rearing its ugly head. I ordered a Vicks VapoStick to easily rub vicks on my chest. It works pretty well, no messy fingers.

I'm still revising my next grocery shop. Most of what's on the list are cold and cough otc's. We don't really get colds, but we do have allergy. Personally I think most of what people call colds is allergy related. I do get the miserable cough though. I was watching an older tv show the other night and laughed so hard that I thought I was going to choke.

So I keep looking at my list and just don't feel the need to stock up more on things I already have a good supply of.

Amazon offered me a week of Prime for 1.99 so I gave it a shot. I'm going to cancel though. An order that I ordered on prime is delayed for several days. I did take advantage of a couple of things though. I've been looking at a green tank top to go under a flannel shirt or two. It was 14.99 and reduced to 11.99. The reduction may be because of prime, they now have lower prices on things if you have prime.

Summerthyme, Will you have enough for several packets of jewelweed seeds? I would like to get on the list for the seeds please.
Thank you.
Moldy I hope your vision exam and new glasses went well.
I'll offer some here once I get them harvested and dried... they can be tricky to harvest, because once they are *close to* ripe (but not nearly dry enough to store) a slight brush of the seed pod makes it explode and shoot the seeds several feet in all directions! The kids (ok, and me as well... guess I never grew up!) love to trigger them as we walk by!

I've been doing something all morning that I absolutely hate to do. I had to get it done, though. Ironing a big stack of our nice clothes. I had let it pile up for a couple of months, and we were getting low on nice clothes we wear out in public. Hopefully, by the time we're back in small town, the dry cleaners will be open. I put our nicer clothes in there just to have pressed, since I hate doing it so much. My back is killing me, now.

While I was ironing, Cary was out at the woodshed splitting and stacking a load of firewood DS brought to us last Sunday. He got it all finished, then cleaned up around the shed. We are definitely set on firewood for the foreseeable future. Cary keeps it all in a 3- 3 1/2 year rotation.

We don't have anything planned for the rest of the day, except for me cooking tonight. I might make a peach cobbler for dessert. I bought a fresh gallon of vanilla ice cream at the grocery store. I can almost taste it now with warm peach cobbler! Supper will be smoked Polish sausage cooked with kraut, green beans, oven roasted potatoes, and toasted Kaiser rolls.

LOL, I was sleepy when I started it.

I'm sure none of us have ever done anything like that, Judy, LOL.

The other morning, just getting out of bed, I walked into the kitchen to make our coffee. I got it all set up, hit the button for it to start, and walked out. I heard something making an awful racket, so I walked back into the kitchen. The coffee pot was trying to make coffee, but I had forgot to put the fill tank lid down.......Yeah, I was still asleep. It's a good thing that it didn't burn out the coffee maker!

DH and I were talking about some of the canned food we have. One that came up in conversation was suckatosh, he said he would eat it. so I opened a can, still in date but getting close. All the product was watery, I drained off most of the liquid and what was left was barely half a can. I dumped it in a skillet and added butter, cooked it down low, and added ground meat, no seasoning but butter. He ate it and said it was very salty and suggested a little sugar might help that. So next time I'll add a little sugar. It was the Margaret Holmes brand. I have several variety of MH foods. I didn't like the okra and tomatoes and have way too much of it.

I'm thinking about taking a pot of okra and tomatoes to the next church potluck. I'll add some tonys and butter, maybe that will help. If I end up bringing any home it will go to the pigs, they will eat my cooking.

The varities of MH foods that I do like is their cabbage and the yellow squash and onions. When I stocked up it was around a dollar a can and now its 1.42. Its a good thing I have a bunker mentality because I could never afford to stock up now.

Been there done that. Probably three years ago I added an extra electric coffee pot to the stash, its still in the closet. I also have several non electric ways of making coffee.

I have 2 electric coffee makers in storage still in their original box, and several camp coffee pots. Not going without our coffee as long as I can help it, LOL. I've got 3 years' worth of Folgers coffee in storage, too. I've just started on the jugs of coffee dated 2020.

I like MH's cabbage, yellow squash and onions, and the seasoned lima beans. Cary won't eat the cabbage or squash, so I only have enough stored for me to have from time to time.

I found some canned lima beans awhile back on Vitacost. They were cheaper than MH and not seasoned. Some of her seasoning I don't care for. Another thing I like is the DelMonte Zucchini with Italian style tomato sauce. I like to add one of the 5 oz cans of chicken to the zucchini and the yellow squash and onions and stir up an egg in it. Both are tasty, were cheap and filling. Not something DH would like though. I bought my small cans of chicken at DT when they were still 1.00 a can. Canned chicken holds up long after the best buy date. I could probably use both of those dishes for a quick meal on my diet plan. sometimes I'm just not in the mood to cook a stir fry, particularly when I don't have ground meat cooked up.

The church is having Bingo tonight and they are serving gumbo. DH hates it and I don't particularly care for it. I'm so glad I have those hamburger patties in the freezer. I see a cheese burger for DH to eat before we go. They will have desserts so he will have his fill on those. I may cook either zucchini or squash for me to eat before we go.

I love stir fry veggies of different varieties. I buy bags of them frozen at the grocery store. I made Summerthyme's chicken breasts last night and made myself a bag of the frozen stir fry veggies to go with my chicken. Cary had his usual, potatoes and beans to go with his. He doesn't like stir fried veggie's. I don't add meat to mine. I use them as a side dish, not a complete meal.

Little Levi and I have made two test cakes for his fair project. We are learning. They are very good and all from scratch. Correcting little mistakes as we go.
If I needed coffee and no pot, I would just dump some grounds in a pot and boil, dump a little cold water to settle it. It makes great coffee.

Well, all the cross braces for the garden storage thingie are now in place. I will start painting all of them tomorrow. And start painting the bamboo pieces. Friend was surprised that it actually was almost completely level. He hadn't realized that one of the boards was a hair bowed, so it threw the level off. I'm not worried about it. He was somehow convinced that it would not be level because we didn't dig out and level the ground. The harder than concrete, compacted clay ground. He has learned a bit about building something completely without a plan or pattern and making it work. He's not quite there yet, but he's improved. It's kind of amusing to see his frustration with the real world vs the formulas/equations world. I may have sympathy on the next build and not be quite so fly by night on it. We used up most of the random wood pieces on this project.

I will be ordering hangers to go along the center posts in the storage area. That will allow me to put the poles that I use for trellising, and the extra fence posts, somewhere that is not directly on the ground. Once we have the doors on, I'll figure out where the two composters are going to go. I was debating butyl deck joint tape but realized that I'll be painting those. And the paint will actually serve that function. Friend is still not quite computing that having doors, and a "deck level" for plants, doesn't mean that items will be protected from nature. Some part of his brain keeps jumping back to the shed/protected equation. I think it will fully sink in when everything is in place. The doors are to block public view, not weather protect. The "deck/table" is for me to put plant starts on, not be a roof.

Soil and pots will have homes stacked on the back side, where I'll be moving my plastic planting bench. Then I'll have them all nice and neat, and accessible. That side, since it is not open to public view, will not have doors. I'll also be adding in a couple of newspaper boxes that I had tucked in the garage, to use to store the small hand tools. By the time it is done, I will likely have most of my garden supplies, from all the storage areas, tucked in there. I may tuck in a tote to contain the trellis nets and keep them from getting tangled in everything. I have several left from running the newpaper route. A few small holes in the bottom will keep water out and prevent mosquito breeding.

One thing I still have to deal with is a "hidden" place for the cardboard that I use so much of. I'm honestly thinking that is going to be a make my own solution as well. But that one may be a large green tarp bag that I make. Because cardboard is considered trash. But I'm thinking to get a pallet and put it as the base. Or maybe get an IBC tote cage and put wood fence pieces on three sides. Leaving the fourth, back side, open so that I can easily reach all the cardboard when I need it.

Ramps got planted and watered. Then I pulled back the walkway mulch that surrounds that garden bed and laid over a frost cover. That should keep the squirrels and armadillo out of if until spring. And hopefully by then they'll be well established. If not, I've got some screens tucked in the garage. I'll make a surround that will allow pollinators in but keep the openings small enough to strongly discourage those tree rats.

I just did another bulk order. It's nice to find things that we'll use. This order will add to the stack of different granola/breakfast/etc bars that my son likes to have for breakfast. And the prices are considerably lower than buying them in the stores. Then you add in that there are flavors and varieties that aren't in stores around here, so he shouldn't get bored with them. Right now, I've got approximately 3 months worth stashed, but I've been adding from the grocery stores when I find theirs on sale for a good price. The new ones will add some more flavors and extend the stash. They also had ground pork for considerably more affordable than local.
