FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Four patients with newly confirmed cases of coronavirus [COVID-19] are now receiving treatment at Northern California hospitals, a CDC spokesperson confirms.
These four patients are Americans who were evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan and brought to Travis Air Force Base in Solano County for a 14-day period of quarantine. On Monday afternoon, CDC officials said test results came back positive for four of the evacuees staying at Travis. Hours later, they were taken to hospitals in Napa, Sonoma and Contra Costa counties.

That brings the total number of Diamond Princess passengers evacuated to Travis Air Force Base who then tested positive for the coronavirus, officially named COVID-19, to 19.
Of those 19, 15 patients — including the four newest cases — are in Northern California hospitals, spread over several counties. The remaining four were taken to medical facilities in the Spokane, Wash.

CDC spokesperson Scott Pauley said patients are going to hospitals across several counties "to make sure the burden doesn’t overwhelm Solano County’s" health services and system. This also isn't impacting the number of beds for regular hospital patients.
"COVID-19 patients require specialized isolation rooms where the average hospital patient would not stay," Pauley said.
He also explained by spreading the patients across multiple counties, the CDC isn't expanding the risk of exposure because every hospital, "has CDC protocols in place."
"Nobody in the community or hospitals are at heightened risk," Pauley added.

Why? Please justify your response with facts.
Knowing what many, if not most people here know about CS, asking us to put LIFE OR DEATH FAITH in "some guy on a forum who said don't use it orally or vaporized" is just not going to cut it HERE. Back up your opinion with legitimate
documentation from scientific sources.
OTHERWISE your opinion is worthless and could influence someone to the detriment of their chance of surviving this CORONA VIRUS!

There are plenty of peer reviewed studies that you can access for free that show that there are no benefits to the use of CS nanoparticles when inhaled. There are several studies that suggest that it MAY be damaging at least in the short term. For your reference here is an article from PubMed that provides some indication that CS can cause at least mild pulmonary inflammation and tissue damage.

Further, CS does have interactions with a number of medications--particularly some antibiotics and thyroxine. Vaporization gives an unreliable delivery method and concentration to tissues that are already--in the case of conronavirus--inflammed. The likelihood that this would actually worsen the case is real. With coronavirus we have no cure or proven treatments, and are relying extensively on supportive care and not making the situation worse.

CS does have good healing properties for tissue wounds. We use it for skin infections and burns all the time. It is a mistake to believe that because it provides benefits in one treatment modality that it would provide the same benefit to other tissues or in other delivery mechanisms.

Your health is your own decision. If you believe that it will help you, the choice is yours as is the ramifications. I'm here to pass along the best information I have at the time.

Its ok. I don't get offended by people questioning things I say. I agree with them actually. Don't trust anyone's opinion, ESPECIALLY YOUR OWN. Everyone needs to become thier own expert for their own situation.

So their opinion is worthless because you disagree with it, but yours is good. Got it. May I suggest that their opinion is just as valid, or maybe even more so than yours. Perhaps you could allow them to voice their opinion, you voice yours and let the individual decide. I will say in this case that the advise they gave is probably much more valid than the advise you gave from a legally supported point of view (it would be far easier to follow your advice and then sue you if it failed than it would be to sue them).

I have to be very careful about not giving direct medical advice. It makes it difficult, but I understand the limit. There are others here like Blizzard who are better resources but I'm pretty sure he has his hands full right now ;)

same here Fairfax,VA....Costco was no way near busy....good for me. Stocked.

Ahh, my old Costco, brings back fond memories :-) The Springfield Costco always seemed more busy. Hopefully my Costco trip in a few days will also be smooth sailing.

Smoke has been used for thousands of years to inhibit germ growth on animal flesh and preserve it. RIGHT?? If smoke inhibits germ growth there what makes anyone think it would not inhibit virus/bacterial growth in smokers lungs?

Remember, this is all just speculation. There is no proof. Correlation does not equal causation. There could be myriad other reasons as to why COVID-19 seems to infect Chinese males (or males in general) over females.

Rodabend is giving the same advice as Nightwolf because that is what the medical standard is right now - good to use for exterior wounds and burns, but not advised to be taken internally.

Everyone is, of course, free to do their own research and make their own judgments, but people who are doctors (Blizzard), PA's (Roundabend if I recall correctly) or medical researchers like Nightwolf are most likely to give out the standard answers that they see in their research.

Your choices and mileage may vary, but right now that is the mainstream medical advice, at least in the West. I think there has been some research done on internal use in Russia and other places. Also if it can be confirmed that China is using it with diffusers to treat the lungs then that would be another suggestion that maybe it works.

But I gather there have been some issues with using it internally, as in all medicine modern or traditional, it is a benefit vs. risk assessment that doctors and patients have to judge, often for themselves.

So I got my tax return a day earlier than when they said they were releasing them. I'm going to go do most of my stocking over the weekend. My kids are sick again, so I can't today. I imagine it will start soon. The EIT refunds were just released.

45 people allowed off Diamond Princess now show coronavirus symptomsDozens of passengers who were allowed off the Diamond Princess cruise ship after testing negative for coronavirus ARE now showing symptoms By Afp12:33 26 Feb 2020, updated 12:50 26 Feb 2020

  • Diamond Princess ship was quarantined in port after passenger fell sick on board
  • But containment effort failed, leading to 600 new infections and four deaths
  • Japan said it had contacted 813 ex-passengers who previously tested negative
  • 45 are now showing symptoms, and will need to be tested for the infection
Dozens of passengers allowed off the Diamond Princess cruise ship after it was hit by an outbreak of coronavirus have developed symptoms, Japan has revealed.
Officials said they contacted 813 former passengers of the vessel who had previously tested negative for the virus, and found 45 are now showing symptoms.
All of those with symptoms have been asked to contact doctors and take new tests to check whether they are also infected.

Japan has faced mounting criticism of its handling of the Diamond Princess ship after a failed effort to quarantine passengers on board after one tested positive led to almost 700 infections and four deaths.

970 passengers who had been held on board the Princess for almost two weeks amid an outbreak were allowed off after testing negative, but some have now tested positive
Foreign governments eventually decided to repatriate their citizens on special evacuation flights after it became clear the virus was spreading freely on board.

In total, 970 people were allowed off the boat last week after testing negative for the virus, but several have subsequently been diagnosed with the illness.

Japanese citizens allowed off the ship after a 14-day quarantine were asked to stay inside, but no formal measures restricting their movement were imposed.

Looks to me like everyone on this website will likely get the Wu flu. If you are healthy and under 60, you might not even know you have this virus and instead just think it is the flu and you will get better. If you are over 60 and not all that healthy then when you get this virus you might be going to the hospital. A few of us might die.
But old people (like me) die everyday from many things, this virus is just another 'thing'.

Aintitfunny, we are trying to provide this board with the most accurate, clinically-proven advice possible. Those of us who are healthcare professionals are being inundated with requests for information. We are having to sort out the lies from China, the WHO and our own CDC as well as sort out the avalanche of clinical data coming in.

My current COVID-19 folder on this computer is 278 MB of information. I've read through all of it except the latest papers put out this week. I have 2 full time jobs (one of which is directly linked to SARS-CoV-2 research).

Feel free to disagree with us, but do NOT demand any further time or effort from us. We just don't have it available. I am off to brief another unprepared hospital in a 10:00 meeting. I have time to pee first, but that is all. Best of luck and stay safe.

Posted on the travel restriction thread but wanted to put here too.

My daughter, who is 6 hours away at college, is sick. Fever and chills. I can’t help but wonder if it’s corona. What are the odds she would be one of the first to get it out in public. She was working the San Antonio Stock show and rodeo on Saturday. Started feeling bad Monday night. There have been over 200 sent to Lackland in San Antonio under quarantine. I’m glad I sent her back with a bag of food/meds in case she got sick.

I'm sorry sorry she is sick. It's scary when there so far away. I have 5, its been 3 months since everyone has been well at once. Almost hoping for a quarantine so I can get everyone well again. The schools are giving me a hard time because they are missing so much. Praying for her to get well soon

Well said. I would add that, at least right now, old and sick folks run an extremely higher risk of dying from the regular flu. The Kung Flu has a death rate of around 3% so far and that is lower than regular flu and regular flu is common everywhere. It is always good to be prepared for these new viruses and try to contain them but there is a lot of hype right now just like there was SARS and MERS.

I did my Sam's run today. Could not tell that anyone there was shopping for the virus. Saw only ONE lady wearing a mask--Asian. Kept my distance from her. All shelves well-stocked, no shortages. Did get one of the last packages of my favorite TP (Scott's) but plenty of other brands still there. Absolutely FURIOUS to discover you can no longer buy those great big cardboard boxes of Carnation powdered milk! They apparently no longer make / sell it! I am furious with myself that I recently donated all my old Y2K supply of powedered milk (something like 15 boxes) to a food donation center---I figured it was old and I'd just get some new at Sam's. Didn't know they had STOPPED MAKING IT except in little bitty bags or small cans!!! Even on the internet couldn't find it. Finally bought two BAGS (plastic BAGS---am concerned how well those are sealed and will last) at Kroger. ANYONE KNOW WHERE I can get LARGE boxes of powdered milk anymore?

Augason Farms (a freeze dried food company) sells their version of it in #10 cans and 5 gallon buckets! There is currently a run on their food though, so availability is sketchy most places.

Is this the Senate hearing on Coronavirus today? Or some other teleconference?

What blew me away was her ADMITTING, at the 1:01 mark, that "new cases of covid19 are appearing without ANY KNOWN SOURCE OF EXPOSURE."

PLEASE do let me know (PM me) when your WRITTEN copy of this comes up? (I doubt I'll just "find" it in this MAMMOTH thread)

This was not the Senate hearing. This, I think, was Messionaire (sp), you know, Rod Rosenstein's sister, lol, and then came a tele-question and answer session.

"regular flu" overall has a mortality rate of 0.1 to 0.2%. Covid is 20-30 times higher by many estimates.

Thank you! I’d been thinking about buying some more dry milk, but then just yesterday I remembered about evaporated milk and wondered if that would be a better choice. We’re doing a grocery run today and I’m going to pick up some.

Deena,

I have stocked up on shelf stable milk from the Dollar Store. A $1.00 for a quart isn't too bad to something ready to go. But thanks to BW for the thought on stocking evaporated milk too. I will have to grab some when I do my shopping.

I keep hearing how the flu is worse than coronavirus, but the death rate of the flu in the US is only around .1 % as I understand it. I'm not quite sure why this fallacy about the flu being worse keeps getting repeated.

In spades! This virus can be transmitted thru fomites (surface contamination), droplets, aerosol, the fecal-oral route and now thru urine possible. It appears thru limited data that the most efficient mode of transmission is the fecal-oral route. The country’s where this is taking off the fastest use squat toilets without paper and no hand washings. Squatting over an open hole generates a lot of aerosol and appears the highest viral load is in the feces.

Countries with poor sanitation and areas of homeless in developed countries with a lot of homeless and indigents will most likely have the most victims. Whereas you can catch the virus thru other routes basic hygiene will lower your chances quite dramatically in catching this bug imo.
This may be why san francisco, with its homeless population using the streets as a toilet, has declared an emergency.
On another note, I am wondering if activated charcoal and d mannose would help contain the virus:
the charcoal surrounds it, neutralizes the toxins, you rid it. The mannose does the same with the toxins in your bladder.
Both charcoal and the mannose are supposedly beneficial for your kidneys and I have read that this virus is really hard on them.
Just thinking outside the box here...

As I understood it, D Mannose only tackles bacteria, not viruses. That's the main reason it's so popular for UTIs.

I give up.

I was thinking the same thing. I did notice my store has all the milk-related items, but I hadn't picked up any yet (can only do so much at a time). I think a jar of regular coffee creamer too, for coffee, even though that's just chemicals. Oh well. Not a fan of black coffee much.
