That's not true. It's very likely that he's trying his best to stave off a panic and a complete economic and social collapse. He has clearly made the gamble to stick to the "everything is fine" message until it's absolutely clear that it isn't. I hope his gamble pays off, but there is zero way for him to know for certain that we are safe.
