Good discussion, I see both sides. I do not argue that the armorer is at fault-she absolutely is. But even actors should be exposed to basic gun safety. Jon-Erik Hexum might still be alive today if that were the case-even blanks can kill under the right circumstances.

The weapon becomes like any other bit of stage paraphernalia: a table, a chair, a horse.

If I were a stage extra, and I kicked Alex Baldwin in the head and killed him, would they hold the stage wrangler responsible for his charge?

They probably would, while congratulating him on his choice of mount for Baldwin.

In this case 18 months is almost an even trade for dispatching Baldwin to the next round-up.

Well, she WAS highly responsible. WTH. Never did hear what her excuse was for having live ammo around. What an idiot. Frankly, nobody expects actors to have any sense. That's why they hire people like her...to think for them.

It may have been mentioned earlier here, but I have read that Alec Baldwin refused to attend the firearms safety meetings and their are multiple photos of him with his finger on the pistol trigger when not necessary or appropriate.

One of the big things to remember, she might have been an airhead, but Baldwin had a major part in it. They had her double tasked as both the Propmaster and the Armorer, and was running her ragged as propmaster. The AD should have never handled the pistol outside her presence, and no one but her should have handed it to Baldwin. Baldwin the actor should have never accepted it from the AD, and Baldwin the Producer should have put a stop to it for violating all the union rules as well.

plenty of shit to go around, but Baldwin deserves at least two doses.
