Those hunters should just have a contact to report to every hour or so. If they go into the woods to hunt four legged critters, let them know of the one bad trophy out there. Most of the one's I know, would consider the risks......

I'd like to see a better timeline. I mean, if he got out and immediately bought them, I can see his thought process being that he knew it would take a few days (or longer) for his name to make it through the system, so he bought them while he could.
Of course, it seems his name never made it through the system, or they'd have taken them away from him.

In the wake of Wednesday night's shooting in Lewiston, Maine, in which 18 people were killed, attention has turned to the state's gun laws pertaining to mental illness.
Sources told ABC News that the suspect, Robert Card, 40, spent two weeks at a mental health facility over the summer after he reported hearing voices and made threats to shoot up a National Guard base in Maine.
The state requires its courts to send the Department of Public Safety and the state Bureau of Identification any order for involuntary commitment that is issued by the court. That order includes the person's name, date of birth and gender.
The Bureau of Identification must also report that information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The reporting requirements only apply if the person was committed by the courts.
Maine does not require the reporting of individuals who have been committed through emergency procedures but who have not yet been granted a hearing. It's unclear at this time if Card's stay at the mental health facility was voluntary or court-ordered.
ABC News also reported that investigators recovered a firearm in Card's abandoned vehicle when it was found late Wednesday. Authorities are testing and tracing the gun to determine if it was involved in the shooting, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
Sources said Card may have access to other firearms and are treating him as though he is armed and dangerous.

Robert Card, who was found dead Friday, legally purchased a rifle that police believe he used in the Maine mass shooting just days before he was hospitalized for having thoughts about harming fellow soldiers, according to a report.
The accused murderer was sent to the hospital in mid-July after authorities found him acting “belligerently and possibly intoxicated” at Camp Smith, a military base in Cortlandt, New York, law enforcement sources told CNN.
Card was released the next day, but was quickly given a “Command Referral” to seek treatment after he told army personnel at Camp Smith he had been “hearing voices” and had thoughts about “hurting other soldiers,” a federal law enforcement insider told the outlet.
He was taken to the nearby Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy for “medical evaluation,” after Army Reserve officials reported Card for “behaving erratically,” a National Guard spokesperson confirmed.
Just 10 days earlier, Card walked into a Maine gun store and bought a Ruger SFAR, that fires high-powered .308 ammunition, the same gun police think was in Wednesday’s bloodbath that left 18 dead of dozens injured.
Sources said the rifle was found inside Card’s white Subaru Outback, which was located abandoned about 8 miles from Lewiston, where Card allegedly carried out the sick attack.
Police still have to run ballistics and DNA tests to confirm it is the same gun that was fired at the bowling alley and a local bar.
Such large-caliber bullets are typically used by snipers and big-game hunters and are more powerful than any munitions used by most soldiers and law enforcement, according to CNN.

It's my understanding the military (his commanding officer, or someone up that line) got the New York State Police involved (he was at West Point), and they escorted him to the psych ward.
But that isn't the Maine Courts, and the yellow flag law is a Maine Law.
New York has really strong red flag laws, though, so he still should've been put on the list that keeps you from being able to buy a gun (assuming he was escorted to the psych ward and kept two weeks after making threats to kill people). And, the military supposedly decided he couldn't use their guns anymore, so wouldn't you think they'd have talked to someone about making sure he didn't have access to his own guns?
My personal question is: were the existing laws enough that he shouldn't have had those weapons and only did because the current laws weren't followed, or are more laws needed?

Sounds like he was still in the Army reserve at the time of the shooting. With a two week stay at a mental institution he should have had a section 8 discharge. I have read nothing of his discharge. Telling people the voices are telling him to shoot up a military facility is a red flag. Could be the type of scum some are looking for.

Funny how so many of the recent senseless massacre shooters have sought help for or reported to some authority that they are hearing 'voices' including a number who failed to shoot yet somehow most of them are ignored until they comply with the voices and then it is wailing and gnashing of teeth as the demonrats push gun control.

In the 90's there were a number of shootings where the killer had a long gun and a handgun. They used only the long gun in their attacks and when they ran out of ammunition they were described as looking like they woke up. they then used the handgun to shoot themselves in the head. This pattern was repeated and ascribed to MK ULTRA conditioning.
That is why I suggested that he would kill himself with a handgun as he did not use it in the attacks. I still want the details of the suicide.
