It has already been proven that a person can fly from China to Germany with no symptoms
transmit the virus while in Germany with no symptoms
and then fly back to China with no symptoms
and then develop symptoms after they return.
and you will believe that only one person had been affected.

Likewise we are data-free on the number of people who have stayed home and gotten better without medical intervention. It is hard to know at this time what the real situation is, as the Chinese have futzed heavily with the flow of information.

I am more worried about the longer term illness / hospital time. That can be a reach bugger if 5 or 6% of the population has to stay home in bed.

The Spanish Flu pandemic lasted a year and had three "waves" to it. Most pandemics are multi-wave. What usually happens is that people relax too soon after the first wave … or stop really being able to institute sufficient protocols/protections and simply put, it only takes one person to start the next wave. Or there is a slight mutation in the virus. Usually by a third wave enough people have gotten ill that a form of herd immunity is formed OR the mutations make is less virulent or some combination.

Are they getting better? The reports of people getting better is good news, to the Chinese would be reported several digits higher than the less than 100 considered over the "flu".

That's the issue. Some may have stayed home and died. Some may have stayed home and lived. Neither case has data available to consider, at least not at this time. Not outside of China's very controlled pool of information.

The German cases are exactly what I have been waiting to see..this bug will run far and wide. I don't envision 50% die offs from direct infection..I do see social upheaval on a grand scale though. We are a month behind China, you are not in the clear yet! You will not want to go to a doctor or hospital unless you have major trauma.

Supply lines have been severed for a huge portion of the economy....first responders will be stretched way too thin, the local hoodrats will definitely get uppity, etc.

I would recommend spending your time on useful activities at this time, not wasting it....you very likely don't have much normalcy left. Go do something enjoyable with someone you love.

Truth we’ll spoken. People here will not be able to be quarantined like they are in China. This virus is going to cause chaos. Everybody will flock to the doctors and hospitals and continue to spread the virus. I would stay far away from those if possible. I may have to babysit my grand babies full time to keep them out of daycare. All 6 of them .

The reason virus tends to mutate so much is that when they replicate inside the invaded cell they don't have error checking or correcting mechanisms like the cell has, so errors are very common. The error rate is many times that of normal cellular genetic material. This extremely high mutation rate explains why a virus can adapt to survive and thrive so easily.

One of our sons received his MBA at Ohio State last spring. We noted that about half his graduating class were Chinese or Indian. I’d say we should expect cases to start popping up in towns and cities with major universities. Just guessing.

Diamonds asked that this thread not get derailed but to be polite I'm saying check my other responses to this. Basically if differences in DNA is what determined or did not determine race then every human on this planet would be a different race because everyone has a difference in the DNAs, even between biologically close family members.

One race scientifically. Socially and anthropologically, you have different races. And the Nazis used eugenics (racial pseudo-science) to justify their actions.

Probably missed it somewhere within these 100+ pages of info, but wasn't there a report of about 40 people in China surviving this?

If that really happened, why is no source discussing what treatment worked on them? What procedures, medications, etc., were used. Kind of seems that if truly happened, the docs would be doing all kinds of tests, blood work, creating, revising, adapting treatment protocols. That would make some sense. But, only if there truly were survivors. Is there any proof these survivors exist? We don't need their stats as in address and vital statistics, but some info would be nice. Like age range, sex, etc.

This is China we're discussing and we know they don't tell the truth about pretty much anything.

A brief mention of survivors, no mention of what Chinese province they might be in, nothing. Makes one wonder if they did survive or not. Its also possible they were whisked away to some Chi-com gov facility for more testing.

If there are survivors, that's some good news. But, we kind of need to know what treatments they received and what their long-term prognosis is for recovery. Pretty sure the WHO and CDC would like to know that info as well so maybe they could get that info to the people working on the vaccine.

Ok, thanks for the correction. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the thread, so I knew I could be mistaken. Just so I'm understanding it correctly, our government is airlifting Americans out of China, today, but are taking them to Canada instead of San Francisco?

Yes that is true. There WAS reporting at zerohedge about the number that has recovered. I just checked and it is no longer up at their site. With the infection rate, and death rate going higher and now deaths in other countries, that statistic is no longer being reported.
