ok...i turned 39 last week...not a boomer..not an exer...but am a huge em fan. have all his cds as the man is flat out talented.

eminem is all about anti establishment simply cause it makes him money. he will be the first one to tell you that if you listen to his music. he repeats that message over and over in his rhymes. he is playing a joke on all of us and to take his message in any way serious is what makes him money while he sits back and laughs. if he could piss off a bunch of people on the other side and make a fortune he would. he gets more publicity for taking this stance.

seems to me y'all can't hear eminem.

I dunno, buff... 'Sing For the Moment' is pretty compelling, as is 'Hailey's Song'. I'll admit, a lot of his stuff is crap, but I think he has some genuine messages in some of his music. In the new one, of course, most of the strength is in the video... But when you look at it, there's no denying it's there.

I saw the video and I happen to like eminem, but I feel this is more of a political manipulation of youth than a statement made by eminem himself. That or he knows what will sell to kids who are fed a constant diet of "Bush bad, vote or die"

Reason I say that is because being a child of the 80's Music was a big part of my life. If someone was in or hot everyone wanted to be like them. Back then, I never really listened to the lyrics of some songs, and mind you I DJ'ed for years and in some major night clubs as well.. but only NOW did I realize that a whole lot of the songs I love really had veiled political messages. Just liked the music and I was not into the message back then.

Today it seems as if they are a lot more blatant with putting opinions in music. They know how powerful a medium it is for youth. Heck, over at DU they are all talking about wearing black hooded sweatshirts to the polls lol so yes, the message is working. Have to agree with brihard, his lyrics are powerful but for the most part based on the DNC talking points.

Its really strange to me, cus as a kid, I never cared about politics. I was more worried about girls, school, money, my car, and the usual things kids worry about and mind you, this was during the Regan era with the Russians who were going to "attack" us any day.

With all the added pressures of being a kid today, guess they also now have to be involved in politics as well. Sure am glad I am not a kid nowadays.

It is amazing how my view of the world changed once I hit 30.

wrong bri....

none of his stuff is crap. give all his cd's a good listen and he will tell you how he can use black/antiestablishment stuff to

in his words...

"get myself wealthy"

really listen....

and the man is a true genius at it.

just like chuck berry, elvis, the stones, the beatles, the doors, alice cooper, black sabbath, iron maiden, beasties, marilyn manson, insane clown posse...and the list will go on and on.......

c'mon...do you really think he has a real stance on a political issue or do you think its kinda all about em making some more yang?

Well, speaking of the Doors....:

"Five to one, baby;
one in five.
No one here
gets out alive.
Now, you get yours, baby;
I'll get mine.
Gonna make it, baby,
if we try.

The old get old,
and the young get stronger;
may take a week,
and it may take longer.
They got the guns,
but we got the numbers.
Gonna win, yeah;
We're takin' over.
Come on!"

Pretty heady stuff, for 1968. But Jimbo was willing to be a bit enigmatic:

"Your ballroom days are over, baby;
night is drawing near.
Shadows of the evening
crawl across the years.
Ya walk across the floor
with a flower in your hand,
trying to tell me
no one understands.
Trade in your hours
for a handful dimes;
gonna make it, baby,
in our prime."

Adolescent rage. There's nothing new under the sun. I think, though, that Eminem is too smart to OD on smack in some cheap bedroom. Perhaps there's something to be said for the new, improved model.

I've listened to 'without me' plenty of times, don't worry. ;) I just plain don't like some of the stuff- but that's true for just about any artist with me. Most of it is good, but with almost any singer I'll run into the odd song that I don't like. Eminem, for the most part, I mostly enjoy... And yes, I recognize that there are a LOT of veiled, or even obvious political messages throughout his work. Nice to have different songs appeal to me on different levels intellectually.

Granny gives up.

She dreamed to Johnny Mathis, not Eminem.

It is time for bed anyway. The "beat" will go on, and for that I will pray a remant survives the media culture, and be thankful for those who do.

I hate rap

I've never listened to Eminem and wouldn't know one of his videos if I saw one.

I also didn't go to college, so never heard that 'Brainwashing' bit some of you are talking about.

I have eyes and I see. Before El Shrubbo got elected, I told my husband he'd get us in a stupid war with some country nobody had ever heard of like his daddy did. That's exactly what happened.

All anyone wants to talk about in this campaign is another bad war that ended 30 years ago. Nobody seems interested in the stupid war we're involved in right now that is wasting the lives (once again) of young people so some fat ass in Washington can look good.

Iraq was never a threat to America. In Gulf War I, they attacked Kuwait, not the USA.

War on Terrorism, my ass.

I just watched that video. It was one of the most shallow, manipulative, idiotic pieces of blatant propaganda I have seen in a long time. What really surprises me (perhaps it should not) is that people are actually listening when that doofus Eminem throws out a few leftist catchphrases and anti-Bush cartoon stereotypes, and says "follow me, I won't steer you wrong". And people are really *buying* it. You may as well let Barbara Striesand or Alex Baldwin do your thinking for you. But I guess the MTV generation has never been too big on thinking past their three-second attention span. :shk:
