Northern lower Michigan. It was 8 when I did the chickens this morning at 9 am. They were all running around like it was nothing. Little heaters. LOL. And I already had 6 eggs from the ladies. Me on the other hand wore snow pants, boots and four layers of hoodies and coats and two pair of gloves. The high today is 11 and will get down to 4 later. Fun stuff. The snowmobile people up here aren’t too happy. Lots of snow but so cold and windy they don’t want to be out in it.

Here in College Station TX right now we have freezing fog and 20° (wind chill of 5°). High today forecast to be 20°, low tonight 18°. "Wintery mix" is still in the forecast and I don't like that! (lol, who cares what I like!). Hope it doesn't materialize beyond the freezing fog. I bet the schoolkids feel gypped out of a rare "snow/cold day", beings how they were already out of school for MLKjr. holiday (I would have been miffed!).

Ok; we have some snow action happening and it's very fine snow flakes and if it were 8 degrees warmer it would be drizzle the temperature is 25F.
FYI this is northern West Virginia and if your in Maryland it's coming your way.

Thanks for the NWS link Mill. Weather Channel is all discombobulated this morning, and everything posted by them was WRONG. Already snowing here; those little icy pellets and it's not amounting to much right now. But my internal barometer is saying there could be a chance we get slammed this time. NWS is saying up to 6 inches next day... and the weather rock sez ice and COLD. Had to break ice on pond for geese this morning.

And I'm not too far from Publius; but west of him. There are mountains between us.

The temp has now risen to -4. I'm hopeful it will reach 0 by noon. That's when I'll go out, check the house, and start and run my car. The roads in town are mostly clear (per neighborhood Facebook page). I'll go drive for a few minutes to warm it up. Caucuses are tonight. I want to make sure my car starts. It's not far, but I'm not walking anywhere, except around my yard. We'll have something like -30 chill factors tonight. (I really don't want to know!)

Hours later it's still coming down here and at the rate it's coming down looks like an inch per-day.
Past storm history there is that chance storms coming up from the south with a serious cold front moving in from the northwest can turn into a serious snow storm that can dump three feet to five foot of snow. But I do not see that happening this time.

Well. Unless work covers my disability and/or pays for my funeral AND/OR CAR. I’m not driving in on ice for crap. They might send me a nice card, but it’s just not worth it to be paralyzed or worse because “your patients need you; what about your coworkers? Well sorry, I don’t play blackmail. Oh? You’ll come pick me up? I want a paper from your attorney saying any injuries or disabilities that may be incurred will be covered by the company. Sorry Jack, I play no games. You “rich” management ppl who received bonuses get in there and do it. And I’m ready to say bye bye bye if you’d like. This old girl has learned her lesson about risking it all for people who don’t give a crap.
Best case scenario with snow -- sorry the highway is closed I can't come in.

I've lived in Milwaukee County since the mid-80's and I have never seen power outages last this long after a storm. As a matter of fact I have never personally been in a winter power outage until this weekend.

Hundreds in Brookfield still without power as We Energies crews work to restore energy

We Energies says crews have restored power to more than 260,000 customers since Friday's snow storm.

BROOKFIELD, Wis. — It's unusually quiet in the Gunther’s neighborhood — except for the sound of a roaring fire and running generator.

Their Brookfield neighborhood lost power Friday afternoon in the thick of the weekend's winter storms.

“I think almost all of our neighbors left to go to parents, family houses,” said Gary Gunther.

The Gunther family was out of town when the power went out which meant a scramble to get family and friends to help prevent freezing pipes while they were away.

They were able to borrow a generator for their home but three days later they're one of many Waukesha county families still waiting for the lights to come back on.

Maxwell Livingston and his family say they're still waiting for a crew to get assigned to fix their neighborhood's power problems.

“Thank goodness I have a place to stay with my mother in law,” said Livingston. “We're sort of waiting by the phone for an update so we can get back to our lives.”

Livingston says they haven't been given clear enough communication from WeEnergies on what the problem is and why people haven't come to fix it yet.

“For all I know this is a fifteen minute fix we've been struggling for days on end about, but there’s no stream of communication,” said Livingston.

We Energies tells us this past weather system broke records and is poised to be the largest restoration in company history.

“We're not going to stop until everyone's power is restored,” said spokesperson, Brendan Conway.

the company says by Tuesday everyone who lost power this weekend should see their energy restored.

Oh no. Our roads have been deemed impassable. They are offering to come pick us up so we can come in.

Ok: so if my insurance doesn’t work in this you tell me how YOUR insurance works in this?

Furthermore, we don’t have enough ambulances to come dig us out of the ravine nor do we really want to go to the vet hospital here in town. You think I’m accepting a ride from you? No thanks for your offer. Think I’ll live another day intact.

Looks like we hit the jackpot for total snow accumulation.

That likely accounts for the widespread power outages due to thousands of falling tree limbs and sagging power lines.

Even the worst summer storms don't create the widespread outages this winter storm produced.

Given the snowfall, high winds, and plunging temperatures, I think we did better than many other states would have?

Well, Publius... on the west side of the mountain, I've got about 2-1/2 inches of white fluffy stuff. Temps still in the 23-24 degree area all day; oh! and the breeze is picking up. :(

Kid is already cleaning off her solar array; about half done. Sez it's a great hack to get warm. ;)

Not warming up till Thursday. Might stir up coals from last night's fire to simply restart it again.

We were closed down for yet another day here, due to temps this morn, though they'd improved from the 12 below of the day before, so I again snuck outta the house into the office for a wee bit.
All better now, even the barn babies have braved the great outdoors.
We may even be at a few degrees above zero at this point.

Will still have to hand deliver water for foreseeable future. The peep who insisted last fall that they didn't like how close the tree branches were to my power line, and since they were right there they were just going to trim them for me proved prophetic- while neighbors were experiencing loss due the blizzard conditions, I barely flickered and it doesn't even look like I lost any fencing to downed branches, either. :: crossing fingers, and eyes for good measure ::

I did have to run the wood stove full throttle over the worst of it, just to be certain if I did lose power I wouldn't lose the water pipes too, which was a bit physically uncomfortable, but not too bad.

Today's soup for the plow folk n winter workers is a pot o' broccoli chedder. Crossing fingers this is the end of the event, coz I'm at the end of my crowd sized lunch recipes, and tired of cooking when I can't actually eat...but man, does that home made Italian sour dough smell DIVINE.

It warmed up to 5 degrees this afternoon here in N MN, but the wind is a stone cold be-atch. Had to get some stuff done out there that I'd been putting off. The Carhartts do a good job of windproofing, that's for sure, and the bigger the better to hold in the warm layers unless you can't get in the truck 'cuz you've turned yourself into Ralphie's little brother.

Willamette Valley OR. We don't usually see many below freezing days. We've been between 10°-20° for the entire weekend - nothing compared to some of y'all but it shut us down.

Ice storm #1 was on Saturday, and dropped an inch or two of pelleted ice. Ice storm #2 is happening now, with currently around a quarter inch of ice build-up.

By tomorrow evening we'll be warmed up to 45° and back to our usual rain. But for now, I'm praying that we don't lose power or any more trees.

It's 9 right now which is higher than predicted. Hope we get some sun today to melt the ice because it isn't gonna be above freezing until tomorrow.

Although this ice in has been inconvenient I am so thankful all the utilities have stayed on.
