Good morning. Got update but have been booking since then.

Gift cookies are almost done. Then package and wrap. Gifts are in bags to go. Laundry going. Dishes being done.

I have to go pull the cooler so I can prep them. And prep the son's "bed" in the van. Nothing goes in the van except the bedding until tomorrow morning.

I'm also going to make some bacon and egg sandwiches for my breakfast. Son's bag gets packed with entertainment and his breakfast, early drinks, and munchies.

Prep tomorrow's meals and have them ready to drop in the coolers. Two items need to remain frozen, so they will get the small cooler, a foil wrap, and lots of ice packs. One of the bonuses of my silicon bags is that I can pack them and they can go through to oven, to table, and then back home.

So much to do.

I'm a lot further along with cleaning and organizing than I was last Sunday, plus I'm ready for Christmas, but in all fairness, I totally scaled back all of those activities so that I could be finished with the priority projects by today and not be a tired mess.

There's still a lot of deep-cleaning to do, and the floor in the last bedroom needs to be finished (snap together vinyl), but at least the house and garage are somewhat "company ready." I'm supposed to have help hanging the kayaks in the garage later today or Tuesday, depending.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and stress-free holiday! There's a meme on Facebook that I'm unable to post here, but it fits: Don't worry about anything being perfect: just make memories!

I hope you are all making happy memories! Good memories are a prep, too.

Christmas eve festivities will launch in a few hours and the house will be completely ransacked with gift wrapping before 8pm. Finger-snacks and cookies are ready. That's followed by midnight mass then tomorrow it's off to mom's house with my world famous sweet potato casserole.

As for preps: this week I'm on batteries - the small ones. I store more than 300 batteries so I need a good system. I finally took them out of those BatteryDaddys. They are visually appealing but impossible to label or rotate - so it's, "bye-bye" to them.

I built one of those between-stud niche's and placed glass shelves, then wired in a light and a plug for a NiMH battery charger. I still have to hang a picture frame with hinges and a magnetic latch, to cover the niche. It's about 20" x 42" so plenty of space for things if one day I don't want batteries there. It looks all very tidy and takes up no floor space. I like that.

Waiting on Amazon to deliver several small plastic containers to segregate everything so this week I can finally get all the batteries in one place, organized together, where I can see them and rotate properly. This is going to be a big improvement for me.

Since it's been about 4 weeks, and the order for my shoes that Cary got me for Christmas still hasn't come in, we're thinking it was a scam! So, I went with a reputable company (Keen's) this morning and ordered another pair. As of today, we have received no e-mails or tracking info for the first order. Lesson learned. Don't buy from any company you're not familiar with.

Cary's Christmas gift from me arrived 2 days ago. All he wanted were more books.

Our Christmas yesterday was great. MIL had a good time. Weather was nice so everyone spent some time on the porch. Grands and greats were in rare form. Zoomed in on one of the pics taken and realized DH had rabbit ears thanks to the grand hiding behind him. One of the grown grands screamed the house down when she found a Barnes noble gift card in her gift. Fur kids loved their toys. A blessed time was had by all. Just wish we had thought to take a 5 generation picture. We talked about the greats being the 5th generation to play Mom's piano. And we dealt with the knowledge that MIL is the last living family member of that generation. Then we are the elders.

We made beautiful memories. Now we get to do nothing for 2 days. Hooray! Praying everyone has a truly blessed holiday.

For battery storage, a few years back I bought a whole bunch of the see thru storage cases. I put the batteries in them with a few desiccant packs. And then it all goes in a basket on the shelf. Oh, and I no longer buy Duracell.

The cleaning yesterday apparently caused mouse apocalypse. Cats have caught two and taken care of them. I'm so grateful they didn't get out of the mudroom.

Son is on a tear. But his GP called. She had a long week but saw the message and wanted to know what was up. She's been taking care of son for 17+ years now. As of Tuesday she will be referring him to a new neuro. She isn't happy with what she's been hearing about his current neuro either. And she was really unhappy with what happened this last visit and the expectation that she would handle something that the neuro should be handling.

Got stuff out of the van and started reassembling the "bed". Son should be able to sleep comfortably until he wants to fully wake up. One trick that I'll be using is to throw some hot packs under the blankets when I start packing the van. That will give him a nice warm nest by the time he gets in.

Anyways, time to get back to it.

Merry Christmas everyone! I am sitting in a recliner doing nothing for a few hours! Kids will come over tonight to exchange gifts and to eat treats. We will have dinner together tomorrow. We have everything ready to just put in the oven tomorrow and I already put a tray together for tonight so I sit! We took a tour of the gardens and made some tentative decisions about orchard and next year's garden but otherwise we are just making memories. Hubs says that we can no longer say "slow as Christmas" because Christmas isn't slow getting here anymore. He says it seems like it comes every 6 months now! Probably an age thing!

50 deviled eggs, 2 pumpkin pies, homemade dinner rolls all done to take to our big family dinner tomorrow. I would say that I can now relax, but I still have supper to cook. Some of it will be leftovers from last night. I won't get to relax, until the kitchen is clean after we eat supper. Then, it will a glass of red wine in my recliner to watch DVD's of Person of Interest. We are binge watching that, since we have the whole series on DVD's.

DH fried cat fish for today, enough for lunch and supper. This afternoon we are watching Christmas movies, right now the original (I think) A Christmas Carol.

Its been raining all day with a couple of short breaks, looks like it will be stopping mid evening, and bringing back mid 50's for tomorrow.

We are staying home for the next several days, our Christmas present to each other is being together. God is good all the time.

I love me some fried catfish. Filets, battered, and deep fried with a side of French fries, cole slaw, with a big slice of raw onion. Cary gets the hushpuppies. I don't care for them. I can't fry fish worth a darn, though. Our volunteer fire dept. host a fish fry for our community 4 times a year. I get to eat my fill, then.

We were supposed to get rain and thunderstorms, today, but it has failed to develop, at least for today. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Ow. I think I may have overdone it. Or it's another non-bleeding period. I don't know but I'm sore all over. I just took some Pamprin.

Since I was on a cleaning spree, I deep cleaned the kitchen. And then I did more purging in the living room. I'll work on more through the week.

I've got son's bag packed. I'm going to prep a few drinks for both of us. And then I'm going to crash. I have to be functional at 4am so I'm heading to bed early.

Oh, and son is on acetaminophen doses every 6 hours at least through tomorrow. The new med is not breaking the migraine. So I'm starting with the old steps. So far it seems to be helping at least some.

I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Merry Christmas to all ya'll. God is good all the time.

Cold and gloomy outside, but sunshine and warmth in our hearts.

Our electric coffee pot died this morning, and I told DH that I would go get the new one out of my closest, I bought it back when things were getting scarce during the pandemic. I'm not even sure what I have in there, LOL. I just added another one to my grocery list. The have gone up in price, surprise surprise.

Raining off and on all day, but it was in the 50s. I did the "Christmas Walk" (memorial walk for loved ones who've passed on) since it was warm enough. Nice gathering!

While I was putting away the last of the summer clothing, I saw that I still have four boxes of flat pack furniture to assemble: night stand, TV stand, coffee table, and a new kitchen table (smaller and round). What was I thinking? Maybe I was worried about getting tired of jigsaw puzzles at the end of the pandemic?

In any case, it's either time to assemble them or move them on. The kitchen table will be easy but I don't know about the rest of them. They aren't from Sauder, so I guess I should also get my tool box. Sauder builds good furniture-to-assemble: I rarely have to re-drill or re-cut pieces. Other companies are hit or miss.

I know! I'm supposed to assemble stuff on Christmas Eve! LOL.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

We had a good day considering that son was feeling cruddy. But he behaved pretty good. And when he was just absolutely done, he rested his head on my shoulder and gave me the look that said he was done.

Then he curled up in his blankets in the van and completely chilled out all the way home. He is now curled up in his bed with movies and blankets. I get the disgruntled look when I check on him. I'm going to heat dinner in a bit and just chill for the evening. I think it's time for the Die Hard marathon.

We had a great day with everyone, and the food was all great, too. Way too much food, LOL. I'm glad it's over, and we're safely back home to relax. We'll still be binge watching, "Person of Interest" till that series of DVD's are finished. Don't know what we'll binge watch next. We have a whole library of DVD's to choose from. Several series, too.

It will be back to normal, tomorrow. The usual chores around the house. WE got a little rain overnight but dry the rest of the week. Turning cold again, too. Got a fire going, now. I'm thankful no storms developed.

We don't have any plans for New Year's Day. Just at home, warm, and cozy, just Cary, myself, and Frisco. A time to relax and contemplate the new year.

Tuesday! (Have to keep reminding myself!)

Assembly continues. The new kitchen table was easy and it's solid. The old one will be donated. (It's too large for my kitchen.)

Next is the coffee table and then the night stand. I'm setting time limits. If it's taking more than an hour or the parts aren't solid, it goes in the trash. They were on sale, so I'm suspecting there are problems, and I think the night stand was returned.

Yes, I will go back to getting used furniture at estate sales. I bought several boxes of flat pack items near the end of the pandemic because estate and garage sales had stopped. My present coffee table is a painted white plywood board over black milk crates. What it lacks in charm it makes up for in price (free) and utility (stores everything I need).

But, yes, it looks like something from a dorm room. The new coffee table looks like something from Wayfare.

Wishing everyone a Happy Boxing Day!

Laundry is going, and the floors are swept, finally. I'm ashamed to say it, but it's been 4 days, since I swept last. My floors get swept every day. With a DH and a dog, they have to be.

I must have eaten something, yesterday, that didn't agree with me. I had acid reflux all night, and I was really nauseated when I got up this morning. I couldn't even handle my first cup of coffee. I've been sipping Sprite. Cary wasn't affected, but he didn't eat some of the same foods I did.

He's going to be working on the wood pile this afternoon, once it warms up a bit more. 54 degrees for our high, today, which is about normal for this time of year. The rest of the week is going to be much colder.

Hubby and I have some furniture (a couple of OLDER chairs) that are comparable. However, they are functional and practical and are working just fine. We will keep looking for some via marketplace but really aren’t in a big hurry.

I crashed last night. And honestly woke up feeling good this morning. That's nice. I normally drag for a couple of days after a trip like that.

Son was still crashed. No middle of the night wake up. No waking up when my light alarm turned on. Completely, deeply, crashed. Which is good because he's seriously needed the sleep. He was getting dark circles under his eyes again. He woke up in a better mood today. Much better mood.

Work is being fun as only work can be.

DH needs a new mattress but that's not going to happen. I ordered a mattress pad topper for him, it will be here next week. Hope it helps. Every time I lay down on the bed I get very dizzy, so no sleeping on it for me.

The sun is shining and its cold outside, below 60.

I ran vinegar in the the new coffee pot, mixed with water. The pot of coffee after this is undrinkable. Haven't made another pot yet, hopefully it will be better.

The instant mashed potatoes were good, the instant sweet potatoes were okay, I don't think I'm going to get any more of those. I used canned pork gravy and it was tasty, DH like it and the ham was good too, although it was almost $5 a pound.

I mix vinegar and water together and run it through my drip coffee maker to clean it on a regular basis. I have to run 4 pots of just plain water through it, afterwards, before the vinegar taste is all out.

Oh My Gosh!!!!! Ya'll remember the shoe order for my Christmas gift that never came? No tracking number, e-mails of confirmation, no nothing? Well, Cary just got an e-mail from the company stating that my shoes have been shipped. Cary thought the company was German, because of its name. No........China......Wuhan, to be exact! :shkr: What am I going to do with shoes, probably contaminated with who knows what?

Maybe leave them outside in the truck of your car until you have a bright, sunny day, and then maybe leave them in the direct sunlight all day?

I would be more concerned about underwear and sheets. Those would go directly into the washer and then dried outside in the sunlight.

As far as my projects: the night stand and coffee table are finished. I had to do some re-working of the night stand (and use dowels and glue) but it's fine. The coffee table was very easy and looks good! I paid around $25 for each, so no huge hit to my budget. They were close-out pieces from one of the home stores that's no longer in business.

The TV stand is going to be cut up and put into the trash. It's broken in several places and not worth trying to fix. I think it was $20, so not a huge loss. I'm looking online to see what Walmart has in stock. I might also stop by Big Lots. My present TV stand is a wobbly table. It needs to go, even if I only replace it with a sturdy table and then put 2 - 3 baskets from the garage underneath, which is my Plan B. Then, with a deep cleaning, the living room will look 100% better. I bought a decent sofa and recliner when I moved in. I just never got around to upgrading the other pieces, which is okay. I bought two floor lamps last Christmas, which eliminated the need for end tables.

My bedroom is getting new curtains (already purchased). That and the new night stand, plus a deep cleaning, will make it look 100% better. So that gives me two decent rooms without breaking the budget. I'm happy!

The kitchen is next on the list, but getting the smaller table in place is already helping a bunch.

This will be a slow quiet week. Will try to get together with some family.
Will do some housework and laundry.

I am working on using up some older things and odds and ends out of freezer. Then will make a run to Costco to restock some things in a couple of months. Just 2 of us so takes longer than I thought it would to cycle through freezer. But I have a list of meats that need to be used
and meals I had doubled and frozen.
